The first lawsuit settlement is a joke. They'll earn the difference in a few days. Any fines against Facebook needs to be in the BILLIONS, not millions.

At this point, I think we would really be better off if we just banned social media because of the damage it does to democracy and users privacy.
I wonder if you think that somehow also deletes the biometric data they already harvested from those posts.*post deleted*. Andres Cantu (above) beat me to the punch!
I agree we should ban "network effect" social media. At this point, I think we would really be better off if we just banned social media because of the damage it does to democracy and users privacy.
It's implied to be facial recognition data as the article says it harvested the data via photo tagging.I wish this were more specific on what kind of biometric data was "harvested".
All data that is possible, from locations, photos to text.I wish this were more specific on what kind of biometric data was "harvested".
It is a threat and a rather extreme case because the data can be used against a population in the future, either as targeted blackmail or wider suppression. The only solution is to buy it and regulate the data, or ban it.
Those are all spying on US citizens for Potus tho.....If Potus bans Tiktok he should also at a minimum ban Twitter/Facebook/Instagram(amongst others)...hell even Google.
Where’s the outrage? Facebook admitted secretly went after minors, stalking them and their data for money. They have no conscience and really capable of just about anything they can get away with. Yet, here we are again talking about the same issue. The first lawsuit settlement is a joke. They'll earn the difference in a few days. Any fines against Facebook needs to be in the BILLIONS, not millions.
I didn’t delete mine. I put it on some sort of dormant setting just in case I ever needed it for something. I couldn’t remember if I ever used it for log in credentials somewhere. (Turns out I didn’t).When I did decide to delete it, though, even though I still know my password, they would not and will not let me log in unless I send them a copy of my drivers license or other legal documents. Or...people on my friends list would have to somehow vouch for me.I deleted my Facebook account, really wish they hadn't purchased Instagram. But yeah, they'll ruin it to the point where I delete my Instagram account too.
Yes it is. Why do we need to wait until stuff like this happens when we can see it coming 10 miles away and prevent it? The US is in dire need of proactivity and preventative measures across many aspects of life. But yet TikTok is a threat and warranted an Executive order and much attention in the midst of a pandemic.
