It is a threat and a rather extreme case because the data can be used against a population in the future, either as targeted blackmail or wider suppression. The only solution is to buy it and regulate the data, or ban it.
complaining about insta but posting here? ok....
No. Suck out all the money first, then kill it with fire. Then ban it.At this point, I think we would really be better off if we just banned social media because of the damage it does to democracy and users privacy.
Does that make MacRumors the methadone of the Internet? For many people, social media is the opioid of internet addiction. They have to constantly feed their eyes and mind with a lot of useless drivel that gives them the dopamine high they crave.
It does for the hardcore Apple junkies. I just come here for the girls.Does that make MacRumors the methadone of the Internet?
I’m sure the privacy violations are equally horrible on both services. But Facebook has become a toxic cesspool of ignorant political posts and stupid memes. On Instagram, I still enjoy looking at my friend’s pictures. I’m sure that will degrade over time as well.Closing your FB account while using Instagram is like putting a band-aid on femoral laceration.
I respect your choice even though I don’t agree with it for obvious reasons.I’m sure the privacy violations are equally horrible on both services. How does this help someone without an account? Does my using a containerized browser prevent them from pulling data from my friends pictures? Don’t they also pull data from non-Facebook products?
Just preaching my opinion that killing Facebook would be a good thing, and that there’s only one way to do it.Not using their products unfortunately is not enough. Practically every site you visit nowadays uses facebook tracking.
Well what’s the difference, again? But Tiktok is owned by a dictatorial communist regime and government that suppresses the rights and freedoms of individuals. So there-in lies the difference.
At this point, if you're still using FB services that's on you.
The first lawsuit settlement is a joke. They'll earn the difference in a few days. Any fines against Facebook needs to be in the BILLIONS, not millions.
I wish this were more specific on what kind of biometric data was "harvested".
carrying a GPS device with a camera and microphone always pointing at your face with access to all your messages thoughts and ideas might have privacy concerns

Many of us are.Maybe Americans should be more worried about their own government than the Chinese government.
