A quick PSA for anyone who's not aware:

Here’s how to use Insta *without ads* and without being force fed by the algorithm.
(I haven’t seen an ad in Insta for years!)

Use the “Following” option to see *only* posts from the people you follow, in a reverse chronological order. This even works for Macs. You just have to create a “web app” from Safari.

1. Tap/click the "Instagram" logo in the upper left
2. You should see a dropdown menu with "Following" and "Favorites". Tap/click "Following"
3. Profit! Not for Zuckerberg! Mwahahahahaa

...and actually, in the new iPad version, you just tap the Following icon (the 2-person silhouette icon)...BUT, I see the ads are back. Sigh...

Been using the iPhone Instagram app on iPad os26, worked perfectly being able to resize the window, I’m guessing that’s why they backtracked and updated the app. Now it sucks. And defaulting to reels blows.

The Instagram app is expanding to the iPad at long last, with Instagram releasing a dedicated iPad app as of today.

Instagram for iPad focuses on Reels, and when opening the app, it will go directly to the Reels page. Stories will be available at the top of the interface, with support for messaging as well.

There is a dedicated Following tab that provides different filtering options. "All" will display recommended posts and reels from accounts you follow, while "Friends" will show recommended posts from accounts you follow and that follow you back. The "Latest" option will show chronological posts and reels from accounts that you follow.

Instagram for iPad was designed to take advantage of a larger display area, providing access to more features with fewer taps. Instagram says that people can catch up on messages and notifications using layouts that display both tabs at the same time, and when you watch reels, you can expand the comments while the reel stays at full size.

The Instagram app for the iPad is rolling out now, and it is available on iPads that support iPadOS 15.1 and later.

Very Excited to Try the iPad Instagram! It’s soo much better than on my phone. What took soo long? Meta.

Can it be made smaller than… allthat? :) I only ever needed an iPhone’s amount of Instagram on my iPad, so hope it’s still an option!
In iPad os26 you can resize windows. That’s how I’ve been using Instagram on the iPad, and I resized it to the width of the iPhone. Works well.

More ads than friends. More friends = more ads. THATS the 7th circle of Hell

Defaulting to reels and having removed the mode where you can scroll through all posts (not only from those you follow) really sucks. Super useless. They wanna be TikTok 2.0 or something, but not everyone is 14-16 years old 😂

ABOUT D*** TIME!

Look, ever since the iPad started to get the 8 megapixel rear camera by the middle 2010's, Facebook/Meta should have released an iPad version of Instagram, since some iPad users were actually using the iPad as a real still image camera. The current iPad Air M3 and iPad Pro M4 models sport 12 megapixel rear and front cameras that are capable of very good results with images.

Thanks, all the screenshots show the wide interface and I was wondering if they allowed it to be resized. Wouldn’t put it past them. :)
