How did your install go?

Install is taking a very long time without the systems saying anything - have lion install going on imac i5 and mbp (recent), both have been at it for half an hour, and both are saying that time remaining is 20 minutes. The bar on both machines is moving, so I am hopeful....

Anyone have a clue as to why this is takingso long?

Ron

Total install-time on my MB 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM was around 1h15min.....

My boot disk, is unable to boot my Mac, OSX lion annoy be installed on this disk..Funny that I was booted into it as it told me that..

Installed wonderfully on a USB external:roll eyes:

Go figure :apple:

It's taking mine over 2 hours to install. I have a white macbook that barely meets the minimum requirements. Restarted twice thinking something was wrong at first.

As you say it's probably the spotlight indexing. My indexing took quite a while (1h+), and in the meantime the system was more or less useless.

Just hang in there :)

Thanks for sharing. I've got a MBP 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB RAM. Hoping mine installs well and doesn't take too long. At least I know to leave my computer be for a few hours. Just waiting for Lion to download.

What thats telling you is the installation program is already on your hard drive. Check your applications folder and see if its there.

So, successfully downloaded & installed. Booted into Lion, then restarted and booted into recovery to wipe and do a clean install. Servers appear fubared so I quit installer (which was just downloading) legitly and turn off iMac, thinking I'll do it tomorrow.

I now have flashing question mark folder, and iMac will not allow me to choose boot drive or boot from CD. What to do? Good thing iMac is going in for a screen issue in a couple of days. Reckon they'll also fix this problem?

I have the same problem as well with it saying it is already installed. I am running the GM. I want to get the retail version to be able to update in the future. What do I need to do?

Try a PRAM reset

The air in my sig had a small issue where the fans wouldn't stop and I couldn't get onto the internet. No biggie, I just did a PRAM reset and I've been smooth sailing ever since.

EDIT: To do a PRAM reset restart your computer and before it turns on hold in Command + Option + P + R, keep holding them in and wait for the machine to chime twice, then let go.

Interesting. Any idea why it was acting up?

Nope. I know spotlight was indexing but the lack of wifi made no sense. It was a super easy fix though and now everything is running great. Lion is very fast.
Yes, performance seems great to me.

I am trying to install lion and bring all my info from a time machine backup. I could choose the TM disk but then it was searching for a disk to restore to??? Why couldn't it find my Mac HD?

Should I do a repair disk, reinstall lion
or something else?
Thoughts anyone?

The install went great, I had not problems (but damn did it take some time).

It will not reformat your drive so all your applications and documents should still be there. But, if you do an OS upgrade without having proper backups only God can help if something goes wrong.

I do have one problem that I have ran into. I am using a program called Ghostread, but every time I try to do something to change the program it crashes on me. I have tried updating with zero success. I have e-mailed support but they take 2 weeks to get back to me.

No this program was not bought from the App Store, I paid and downloaded it from there webpage.
This is the "Problem Details and System Configuration" from the problem report. I have no idea what it says, but I hope it helps you.

Phew, I wish I knew what to tell you but I'm not a developer at all. The other reports I've been hearing indicate that issues like this are resolved by the developer of the app releasing whatever update or patch is needed to correct their issues. You might have better results posting in a forum specific to Ghostreader. Perhaps another user there has some comments.

Well, other readers of Macrumors might check this thread too, so there's no telling where the help you need will come from. I wish I could do more!

Stuck at login screen

I downloaded and installed OS X Lion. Once the App store download ended and I was prompted to restart I went to read a book. When I came back my computer was on the Lion login screen, but the only option I have is a guest account to which I do not have the password. My account is gone from the login screen. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have an appointment at the Genius Bar tomorrow but would rather be able to solve the problem myself.

That sounds like you did a clean install instead of an upgrade. I'd restore from a time machine backup and try again. Make sure you do a disk repair first, just in case.

How could I do that? I have an up to date time machine, but I can't do anything since I am stuck at the login screen.

Also if this was a clean install, wouldn't I have been prompted to create a new account at some point in the process?

How can I restore a time machine backup without logging in?

I think my account data is still somewhere because it is connected to my wi-fi network and I was not asked for my network key at any point.

This is what my login screen looks like:

Help needed urgently

I tried upgrading to lion through the app store, it didn't work and asked me to restart. Now all I get it a blinking apple logo, a blinking error logo and a blinking hard drive logo with a question Mark on it. I booted from a CD and I'm currently in disk utility. It recognises the disk but the macintosh HD part is greyed out and it cannot repair it. It shows an error "keys out of order" when repairing.

Nothing was wrong before hand so i have no idea whats happening and really need help fast.

Luckily I've backed up all photos and important documents which I need although i would like to have everything intact.

So I beg of you guys to help me! Thanks in advance.

Under SL, if I had nothing running I would have about 57 process running. Now under Lion, I have nothing running and there are 80 processes eating up resources. Don't know whats going on here... maybe just caching.
