@AbyssImpact - I wish I would have ordered the CTO 512 on my 17 2011 ThunderBook. Fought with the Intel 250GB 510 for 2 days and gave up. Put my 2010 128GB Apple (Toshiba) SSD in the ThunerBook and all is happy. Including Trim working. Now the Intel 510 sits in the 2010 17 MBP waiting for my next move. Probably going to be a CTO512GB in a second 17 ThunderBook, but a 600GB Intel 320 looks good too.

600GB Intel 320 is cheaper than the Apple 512GB one... I think I am going to return my CTO 512GB and just get a regular 750GB Hard drive and then just buy the 600GB Intel G3.

I'm a bit disappointed with Intel's update this time around.

It's not better than the SF-1222 controller much less the newer SF-2xxx controller.
Anandtechs benchmarks have the 510 as roughly the same speed as the Vertex 3. And Intel's drives have historically been much more reliable compared to OCZ's, though we'll see what happens now that they're using a third-party controller.

I ordered the 160GB 320 this morning from Amazon. Of course, it's not in stock. Has anyone found them in stock anywhere else?

Nope, I haven't had any luck. Asked a Newegg customer service agent via live chat, and was told they have no information to provide, check back in the next couple days. I assume they'll start popping up in stock very quickly though.

Amazon is a good place to order from, their return policy and customer service rocks.

The 510 series drive by Intel is known to have issues. Most likely from the Marvell controller they are using instead of their Intel controllers. That being said its buyer beware, buyers should do research first and not assume because X made Y Products A, B, C, and D are all the same.

Power consumption

The power consumption seems to be a little high. Other sites report around 3-4w max. which is still higher than 1.5w of the Hitachi HDD that comes in macbook pro 13" :

EDIT:
Here is the data from reviews

Hitachi : 0.66W idle / 2.31W active
Intel : 0.67W idle / 2.9W active

Not a big difference but still a noticeable in terms of battery life.

Anyone know when/where I can actually buy one of these. Also, what are the prices? I can only find extremely inflated values.

I've had two RMAs on my first gen x25-m's because both spontaneously failed, oh and intel did release that bunk firmware for the g2's.

response?

1. Almost certainly this week.
2. See the first post in this thread. Add a percentage for markup (10-15%).

There's always lemons, but Intel has been historically more reliable - I saw a graph the other day that had Intel's SSDs having a failure rate that was anywhere from a quarter to a fifth of that of other popular brands.

Son of a b, when the 510 came out I thought that's all we were getting from Intel this year and bought the 160gb X25M G2 at the beginning of March. Now I'd like to swoop up a 320 300gb.

Anyone interested in buying a 'slightly used' (although brand new in every respect other than having data on it, which will be wiped) 160gb X25M G2? It's less than a month old and I'd be willing to beat any price out there for the drive at around $275 or so. Let me know.
