It's not the new MBP. Trust me, else it would be offline by now.

Remember when engaget had some leaked pictures of the new iPhone 4? Apple went crazy.

Since Apple has made no comment, no way this is the MBP.

And it doesn't also have the Macbook Pro logo underneath the screen.

diagonal reflection is interesting.

prob just an imaginative 3d render of generic nice looking laptop

This is the real deal, folks. That's also the new version of Final Cut on screen. Blade SSD standard and room for a 9.5mm tall traditional hard drive. Someone get our their rulers and measure the bottom. You'll see there's enough room for 9.5 mm drive. This is the 17" model, btw.

EDIT: Apple hasn't went crazy about the ad because they haven't been told about it yet nor has it hit major media outlets. Someone contact Apple's lawyers and we can see if Intel takes down the ad. If taken down, we know it's legit. BTW, the tell-tale "macbook pro" insignia and isight camera are PS'ed out. Look closely.

EDIT 2: discussions.apple.com is down. They are making room for the new categories. :)

EDIT 3: Cult of Mac liquid metal post

If these were indeed the new MacBook Pros, Apple would be screaming at Intel to take down every instance of that picture. Black glossy on every surface doesn't seem much like their style anyway.

Who says Apple isn't screaming right now?

I think it's a MBP that has been colorized for the ad. Maybe a few other tweaks as well.

I like the feature where you can float your work windows outside the screen area! That's going to free up a lot of space for image, video and layout work, making me so much more productive that... sorry, what?

Um, photoshop, you say? Hmmm. So let me get this straight -- this ad? It doesn't really represent real-life? I see...hmmm...

Yeah, so, this just in: Intel's ad not necessarily your computing experience.;)

Hee. I want to be able to move my screens around, like in Avatar.

Sounds like a lot of wild guesses being presented as fact, to me.

Put aluminum in the same poor lighting conditions with a low quality camera that has some clear discoloration and it would look the same.

Show me a finished liquid metal product in good lighting, then we'll talk.

Liquid metal products come in a variety of colors. They can likely change the look of it either through some sort of anodizing process or the introduction of impurities to the alloy.

Here's a thumb drive with a slightly darker (and anodized) look to it.

People get way too stuck on the color aspect of this supposed leak if it is really the MBP. Apple has used color over aluminum for products over the years, so nothing is saying they can't or won't anodize/paint a laptop.

Anodization serves no purpose in this context when the stem of this conversation comes from an edited photo of 'liquid metal' bars. It's like trying to compare two different color pieces of wood that have just been painted the same.

My liquidmetal response had absolutely nothing to do with the color of the laptop in this ad.

It's not the only method for introducing color into the metal, though. I think that the source material's color is immaterial as we're discussing what color has been seen in final products as it relates to potential MBP products, correct? Furthermore, if impurities were to be introduced to affect color, you'd see that immediately in the material's raw form. I'm not a materials guy though, so I don't really know much more than that.

Cult of Mac sounds pretty sure in their report and the source...

Problem is they are just reporting on the article posted by MacTrast, who is still a new an somewhat unproven blog. Who even they themselves today said "In my defense, these aren't my ideas - I just published the report. "

No, that isn't correct. I was asking for said person to show me a finished liquid metal product. Not a finished liquid metal product that has been anodized to look like any random color in the rainbow. I was not about to start comparing aluminum that has been anodized brown to liquid metal that has been anodized green.

He responded to me with an image that had similar tone to the bars that were posted above and was trying to imply that's what liquid metal looks like. Not anodized liquid metal. Liquid metal.

Is there any media event scheduled for this month that we know about?

If there is no significant redesign, it's probable that there will be no event and they'll just show up one Tuesday morning (we'll get warning with the apple store being down).

Even if there is a big redesign, it's still possible that there will be no event.

I'm not even sure the drive I posted is anodized. I merely commented that it looked anodized.

The picture, even if it is a mockup, could be the 13 inch. That explains the thinner design and the thinner bezel. I could easily see Apple trying to make the 13 inch slimmer and more MBAir like.

However, I never thought the LiquidMetal would look so dark. But, there is that Acer LiquidMetal phone that's black. And I guess it is a man-made alloy, so they can make it any color they want to.

As for the lack of the camera, even the current one can be hard to see in certain lights...and also, it's probably a mockup.

But even if it's a mockup, who's to say they don't know what the new MBP looks like and they're just making a PS mockup by memory? Of course it's not a picture of the new MBP. They use fake photoshop images in ads all the time, especially with things like iPhones and iPods.

Were that desperate for new MBPs, we will try to believe a generic black pc might be a new apple pc. Sad

Lol, that statement of blind conviction had me rolling... it's twice as funny if you read it to yourself in a cheesy radio broadcasting voice.
