I thought that the pros and the MB's were all updated at once?
Yes, usually.
...
...And?
I thought that the pros and the MB's were all updated at once?
My guess is he was asking that because aiden just said "Also, the MBP usually gets new parts before the MB."
Blu Ray is not new technology, sorry fanboys, but it's pretty prolific in new laptops now, and not even particularly expensive one, and not even particularly thick ones.
Mobile Blu-ray playback still needs another generation of IGP development from Intel. It's possible using an ATi or nVidia graphic solution but you're still going to be eating your battery life.
That is with the move to nehalem i believei thought intel was getting rid of the front side bus and moving to the integrated memory controller? or is that just for desktop chips first?
wag:
MBP 04.08.2008
MB 16.09.2008

If the new ones are actually metal they would probably have much more durability-
i hope not, as i literally need a MB when school starts (and i have the money) but i dont want to miss out on the update, and i would like the free ipod touch! I hope it is within the next month

Begins.
When people were arguing about new MPBs I was just like meh, wait until Intel says when we get the chip. Everything else is moot. But gee if that thread didn't go rampaging on even without the Intel announcement.
Bizarre.
So now we have a chip announcement. Do we know when Apple gets a decent allotment? That will determine the final product release.
Alright, let's get back to ignoring the Montevina chip and speculate on when the new laptops will be out with Blu-Ray, laser beams, etc. Oh and which Tuesday in July they will be out.![]()
I still prefer DisplayPort to HDMI.
I am not even sure if I want them. BR drives use more battery than DVD-RWs and I still prefer DisplayPort to HDMI. (Put HDMI in the MacMini or Apple TV.)

I have no idea why people are thinking that there will be new designs. The entire evidence (as far as I know) is *one* photo circulating of a casing which looks slightly different than the current MBP. It could be something Apple has been experimenting with years ago, but dropped eventually, or it could be something that they're currently experimenting with which will be coming out in a year or two, who knows.
It also appears unlikely that they would have such huge news in the middle of the year without any scheduled speeches of Steve. Just replace the entire MBP on the website without any major announcements? No way.
It would be nice, but this is definitely the least grounded rumor that has been circulating on macrumors since I know it.
My bet is they will stuff the Montevina chips in the same casing they've been using since 2003. Which was not really superior to the titanium one they've been using since 2001.
Actually, i believe he said when pigs have wings, but i may not remember correctly...
The MB's DO have DVD burners, just not the cheapo base model.
I hope this comes out soon, as in i can get it before i go back to school, because i am in the market for a new computer, and dont want to get screwed by buying it, and having a new model come out a week or 2 later. Anyways, Montevina should be sweet. Wonder how much of the speed the MB is getting? I bet the MBP gets above 3.0 GHz and the MB gets like 2.8 or something like that, but that's just a guess.
any ideas if a new MacBook is released with the new montevina platform what the price could be.. Would it remain the same
No. It'll struggle against year old integrated chipsets from nVidia and AMD, never mind discrete hardware.
Not that a lack of integrated graphics hardware currently would stop a MacBook Pro update being released. Or maybe Apple can grow a pair and include discrete graphics in the MacBook as well.
I wish I could be optimistic about Intel graphics hardware, but they have such a poor record over the year of slow hardware and extremely late driver releases that being pessimistic is the best option.
