Actually it now doesn't make ANY sense that apple introduced the haswell 15" when it could have waiting just a couple of weeks.
Well it seems obvious Apple is skipping this and going right to Skylake otherwise they would have waited.

As others have already said, Apple is clearly skipping these. Skylake in October or November probably?

Broadwell? July?... I want to doubt Apple would release another updated 15" in 2 months time. That just is not Apple like, I'm thinking they'll wait for Skylake. Is it just me or does Intel seem desperate to offload their Broadwell to Apple, Dell, and co? I mean hasn't Intel learned that it's too little too late for Broadwell at this point? I mean I would have liked Broadwell in the last refresh (a week ago,) but EHHH... so frustrating. I hope Apple and all the tech companies are as ticked off at Intel as I am.
Suck it Intel. (suck my fungus covered toe i mean.) ;)

K.

Maybe they'll just do a silent processor bump

This is very surprising that Apple wouldn't have waited until Broadwell came out for their 15in rMBP. Clearly they are all in on Skylake and TB 3 USB C etc. Should be exciting!

Ok, please some one tell me when the Skylakes are coming to macbooks?
I buy my computers and keep them for a good 5-7 years so its really worth it for me to wait until the end of 2015, but I doubt we will see Skylake in October when Broadwell is launched in August ?

just wait for the next form factor. the day it comes out, buy. that way you get 7 years or so.

This. They won't / can't skip this because intel will ramp down production of the Haswells and ramp up the Broadwells. Apple will silent update it and it will only be noticed when benchmarks jump.

Silent update doesn't mean that they don't put put the specs on the page and on the box...

It's really odd that Apple updated the 15" when they could have waited a month or so and put Broadwell's in it. Anyway, the sales of the current models definitely won't be good.

When haswell-E was released Apple did not update the Mac Pro. In fact the Mac Pro still uses Ivy bridge-E.

This idea that Apple has to refresh their products every time a new CPU comes out is a bit naive.

Apple knew about the CPU release as Intel has publicly stated when they would be released. Intel also said that Skylake will not be delayed and expected to release on schedule.

Why invest in a new CPU release with so little gain when Skylake is going to be a redesign of their product? You're talking USB C for everything from charging your laptop to connecting USB devices, better GPU, DDR4, which brings in other possibilities like 5k display.

Skylake is the laptop to wait for. For those wanting a mac wait until skylake comes out because you'll see a flood of 2013-15's on ebay to get your hands on a macbook pro for cheap. I know I plan on selling my mid2014 for skylake. Assuming it has 5k display anyway. Otherwise I'll probably wait for the skylake refresh.

Whaaaaaattttt????

Now it really makes no sense why Apple released them with haswell

Perhaps the recent MBP update is a sign that Apple has reached the end of the road with Intel or with the 15" form factor.

12", 14" and 16" MB /MBP range running Intel or perhaps an A-class chip instead. ARM would save Apple wasting time on Intel delays in the future.

It wouldn't have been foolish at all to wait another two weeks before refreshing the 15" given that very little was changed.

Actually it now doesn't make ANY sense that apple introduced the haswell 15" when it could have waiting just a couple of weeks.

They would have to wait more than two weeks. The article clearly states that it will be a couple months before we start seeing machines with these processors. Apple wanted to update the MBP in May and not in August/September.

Why do some people keep saying Apple could have/should have waited a couple of weeks, when the article (and many other sources) says "The fifth-generation Broadwell chips are expected to be available in the next 30-60 days"??? That means products with these chips will be available in a month at the earliest.

Would a Q4 '15/Q1 '16 launch for a Skylake based 13' rMBP be still possible, or is Q2 launch more plausible ?

Not if you are a privileged client of Intel like Apple should be.

Err, what has that got to do between refreshing the MBP with last year's CPU and waiting a couple of weeks longer to get the current gen?
The current generation is Skylake. See Computex/Taipai. Why should they waste resources regarding hardware and software developement for the obsolete Broadwell platform?
