Actually it now doesn't make ANY sense that apple introduced the haswell 15" when it could have waiting just a couple of weeks.

It would be 2+ months, not a couple weeks.
I suppose Apple just didn't think they could delay the MBP update any longer.

The difference in the CPU between Haswell and Broadwell isn't much.
I think the integrated GPU is significantly improved, but if you care a lot about that you can get the MBP with the dedicated GPU and do better than Broadwell's iGPU anyway.

This is back to school season. There is no reason for apple to wait two months (August 1) to do an update like this. Especially when a new processor is supposed to be launched in October. If there were any supply constraints apple would be missing out on sales because of intel which they will not allow to happen.

We did see an update during the summer last year, but with the possibility of more significant changes coming this fall I do not for-see this happening.

As far as a refresh on the model, we may see the addition of a usb-c but I would not expect much more than that.

Skylake or nothing.

I suspect that Skylake will be the occasion for a redesign.

And since the main point of Skylake is wireless connectivity (rezense, wigig and widi), it only make sense to update the new Macbook with Skylake.

They're not going to ditch discrete GPUs considering their flagship pro app, Final Cut Pro X, is designed with GPU performance in mind and has a major influence on MBP sales.

I know a lot of people like to think Apple has forgotten their pro users because they also make non-pro products like the new MacBook, but that simply isn't the case. If it were they'd fold up their pro app division instead of spending resources on reinventing those apps like they did just a few years back, and then been aggressively updating those reinvented apps ever since -- with an emphasis on GPU-enabled performance.

Disagree. They could easily ditch the dGPU, as the people who use FCPX won't care anyway - they are hobbyists, family filmmakers, skateboard videographers. Apple will just call the iGPU a "stunning redesign that doesn't sacrifice performance", i.e. the new iGPU delivers the same performance the 2-year old dGPU did.

Thin = sexy = Mac sales. The days of the hardcore pro Apple laptop are over, just as the days of their hardcore proApps (FCP7, Aperture, Shake) are over. It's just too small a market to service.

Just bring Intel Skylake and Thunderbolt 3 with USB-C, and USB 3.1 and DisplayPort 1.2. Besides HDMI 2.

My MacBook Pro is <2 weeks old. If Apple update them again, I'll be pissed. Even if somehow I'm entitled to upgrade, it's going to be a bitch moving my stuff over.

It uses the latest processors and a decent video card that's much better than most competition. How is that not a good fast laptop? What do you imagine a pro laptop would be, xeon processors in a laptop chasis? lol

No, it uses a 2-year old CPU and a 3-year old GPU. Which is fine for most everyone's stuff, just not for pros looking for a beast machine.

They won't be offering upgrades. BTDT with the iPad 3. :( If you're concerned (though it's really hard to accurately predict when the next upgrade for the 15" rMBP will actually take place), I'd consider returning it if you still have your prior machine. The other side of things is that unless you are an avid gamer or work part time as a contractor for a three-letter agency doing brute-force decryption with your machine ;) you probably have all the power you really need already anyway. (?)

I am betting that the Skylake chips see a late Q4 release by Intel and Apple refresh the entire iMac/MacBook line complete with new designs in Feb/March 2016.

Clearly Thunderbolt ports along with the current USB 3 ports will no longer be featured, only USB-C.

I have a feeling the Skylake release is going to be a really big deal and I sense a redesign coming. Thunderbolt 3 + USB C means... a 5K TB monitor that can plug into a single port instead of two and charging via TB docks, which... is actually something I would really like.

Looks like an okay processor for the laptop but an excellent choice for the now castrated Mac Mini. Even the lowest end of these processors would be a welcome/relief for those of us who prefer to buy a headless computer other than the nMP.
Maybe the new design team will take more of an interest in the Mac Mini and give us quad core back. I would prefer Skylake processor with DDR4 and the new USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports.

What about the 13"? Why they keep calling it MacBook PRO but keep using only dual core processors?
TDP? come on! Apple can do better! If it's PRO it should have all the PRO features.
Just because I prefer the 13" it means I can't have all the power I need? :(
I expect Intel to release quad-core CPUs suitable for the 13" MBP starting with Cannonlake, probably in 2017.

You have a good point. The mid-2015 15" MBP provides Apple with the freshest possible 15" MBP for the back-to-school season. Apple could then release a 15" Broadwell MBP in September/October in time for the Xmas/Hanukah/Kwanza shopping season and then Skylake (perhaps with a major redesign) after the Chinese New Year shopping season.

That would be a bummer for anyone with Cinema/Thunderbolt Display.
No, it only means we will need a new cable (two new cables in my case, because I'm using two 4K displays).

i hope apple get rid of Intel cpu's may be cool use its own more powerful and with better graphics in the next mac
That won't happen in the next few years. The only Mac that could have been powered by an Apple CPU is the new rMB and Apple chose an Intel processor for it. As MS Windows continues to fade in importance, maybe Apple will someday produce a rMB with an Apple CPU. Maybe.

What new design team? The new VP is a 20 year veteran of the team. ;)

Whatever redesign may be coming with Skylake, I certainly hope the engineers at :apple: give us more than one solitary port.
