LOL.

I like that the rumor says it could slip to May or June. Considering the dearth of rumors, even this tidbit will cause a fuss.

You would think they would announce at NAB this week if indeed they were targeting pro users. They won't announce too close to WWDC since that is all iOS these days (and might be iRadio this year).

So.. when? if?..

Gotta have more devices for us to care about Thunderbolt. Look at how successful firewire was.

Does backward-compatible mean that current computers with TB will get the faster speeds without a hardware upgrade, or does it just mean that they are kind enough to not come up with a different shape connector just for the laughs, and that new TB devices will work with current ones albeit only at current speeds?

Not sure if I don't understand what they mean by "will be backwards compatible with current-generation cables and connectors.", or nobody else does

Missing the point.. giving Apple a reason to delay a launch by a year is like telling my wife about a sale at Coach.

So we will get faster speeds with no real devices or reasonable pricing products to use it with. Hooray.

Yup.

The cables will only be $150 each.

A functioning "hub" will run about $600.

And the Mac still will not be able to use this interface with "target disk mode".

All Hail Progress!!!

Anyone know if the Redwood Ridge chips will support the Displayport 1.2 spec? So far as I understand it Thunderbolt only supports DP 1.1a, meaning no daisy-chaining DP displays (ie, 2013/14 Dells).

If not, any clue if the 2014 update will support the newer DP spec?

Wait until Thunderbold 3, 30Gbps  Pff.. this is just a way of sucking money for proprietary cr*p, when they could just go with the USB standard, heck even help improve it. USB3 is to be updated this year to 10Gbps speeds... I bet they could go to 20Gbps until 2014.

There was a time when Apple rushed to get the newest standards, like the USB and the Display Port, now they are just rushing for a closed system nobody wants to use.

The new generation of Thunderbolt, code-named 'Falcon Ridge', will be backwards compatible with current-generation cables and connectors
The second part you said...."new TB devices will work with current ones albeit only at current speeds".

Edit: Already answered

Although I must say, it's amazing the amount of hate on here that intel is improving their technology. Sure there isn't much use for it yet, but I imagine the people that have shelled out the dough to take advantage of tbolt are happy it is around and improving.
