So, the "Nehalem" Mac Pros could be updated while the "Westmere" Mac Pros could stay the same or get a slight speed/spec bump. Just like what happened last summer with the new 8-core/12-core boxes.![]()
In theory, yes, but IMO that's unlikely. Mac Pro was updated quite recently in August. The period between last two updates has been a year and couple of months so Q4 2011 would fit in Apple's update pattern too, and it would keep the Mac Pro as "pro" level machine by utilizing the high-end chipset and CPUs, rather than mainstream LGA 1155 parts (though performance may be the same with two similarly specced CPUs).
Christmas is usually a bad time for major computer hardware purchases. What a shame just a little to late for the Christmas shoppers. Well, as the saying goes good things come to those who wait. This is great news for all future macbook & mac pro buyers

So any guesses on when the MacBook pro line up will be upgraded?
Me too. I'm not interested in another plastic MacBook. As much as I loved my BlackBook, I'm only interested in the aluminum unibody version going forward. But I still want a 13" pro machine.

And, as a musician and photographer, it would be a personal tragedy if the 13" MBP lost it's FireWire connectivity. Which is what I suspect would happen if the 13" versions were all MacBooks (and not MacBook Pros).

no it is reasonable.....
Fast i5 cpu (with intel IGP on CPU)
nVidia GT425 with 1 or 2GB of video ram
5+ hour battery life (some last even longer)
all for under $999
nvidia optimus gives it good battery life and decent for the money gaming performance
So I stand by what I said. Plus, IGPs don't come with their own RAM, most of the time anyway. Where do you get your info from? The gaming performance of the GT 425M is sufficient for medium detail settings in modern games like Battlefield Bad Company 2. Less demanding games should run in high detail settings.
The next $999 13" MacBook will be Aluminum, the SB Processor, and no more optical drive (like the Air's - get the external if you really need it).
My take is that the MacBook Pro's will have the FW and an optical drive.

The optical drive is next to go on Apple's list. I remember the uprising when Apple got rid of the Floppy Drive...![]()
Why would Apple want to basically sell a cheaper and faster Air with more internal storage capacity?
No. The MB White stays in all its plastic splendor. If anything, the 13" MBP dies leaving a clear choice for 13" users to choose from.
The difference between the 2500K and the 2600K in the majority of those games was not 15%, buddy.
It's an oxymoron as the 13" Pro is essentially the same computer as the white MacBook.
February is the running guess.
Can I get a white MacBook with an SSD drive? No.
Also, the 13" Pro has an SD card slot.![]()
Nearly everyone at CES is going to have quad core mobile Sandy Bridge out on 1/9 or just a little later. Both desktop and mobile dual cores are delayed until next month.Hopefully by then, if not sooner![]()
It wasn't 0%, buddy.

I believe that vendors wanted to clear out the stock of Clarksfield based notebooks as soon as possible. Arrandale's later higher clocked versions are still solid. Clock speeds bumped up nicely in the past few months. (Core i3 380M and Core i5 460/560M hover at 2.5 GHz or higher already.)
If you're waiting for the 15" as your sig indicates... you'll most likely be pleased with the newer version. At least there's room in the thing for a discrete GPU and I really can't picture Apple staying with IGP's in the 15/17 and much pricier models.Which means what for those of us patiently waiting for updated MBPs?

It's us MBP13 holdouts that are screwed I think. Maybe I'll just get me a bushel of Wal-Mart Acers to last me until Ivy Bridge.![]()

Does Apple normally have an event or update products after CES?
I said hardly noticeable which is about 5%, buddy. Hate to break it to you but you were wrong.
It is not 5% either, buddy.
