Mass availability refers to every Tom, Dick, and Harry system builder and micro-brand of PC makers.

Apple has an early access contract as a result of prepayments. They are a premium margin seller, but their unit needs are smaller than the PC world, so it makes sense to supply them first. It also makes them the crash test dummy for early errors.

In English, "after June" means July 2012, or even later than that.

Even if they get processors in April and May, I suspect Apple will only be releasing lappys about the same time larger chip buyers are letting PO's and Intel is preparing second wave shipments.

It was simply a humorous spin on "there's always something better around the corner, choosing to wait will make you wait forever". There was no vitriol outside of your perception of it. You read what you wanted to read.

It went somewhat beyond humorous. It was mocking, and excessively critical of what was a pretty benign post. And weren't you the guy having a pop at somebody else for trying to look clever, earlier...?

If that's the kind of poster you want to be, that's fine. It takes all sorts. But please, show some consistency. You were much more fun when you were being openly rude to people. Your suggestion that I have somehow imagined it is really rather disappointing...!

I recall last year something similar had happened. Sandy Bridge processor was released just along with Apple's new MacBook Pro line (or it was about Thunderbolt technology?)

IIRC it was the Xeons in the current Mac Pro line. Apple had those CPUs about a month before everyone else didn't they?

I've got the money for a new Ivy Bridge MBP to replace my early '08 one burning a hole in my bank account.

I'm so bummed out on this, I was hoping to get a new MBP sooner then later. Sandy Bridge is good, but now that I have potentially wait until late summer, I question whether if I should buy one now or gut it out until 3rd quarter 2012.

Lets be realistic, if intel doesn't release Ivy Bridge until June, Apple won't do anything until July or later.

How many years did Apple keep C2D in the lower ends IMacs? Only the top end you could have a decent i5/i7 now i5 is standard on base model. Won't be a redesign will not happen for iMac this year. iPhone yes, iPad looks like it will not. USB 3 is not important to pros as they will use TB.
Also a normal consumer waiting just for USB 3 I can't understand either. Seems like an excuse just to wait. It's like saying cos the iMacs will have Bluetooth 4.0. Means nothing to me. It's just a bonus to have not a necessity.

Gpu is for gamers also maybe some 3d workers. As I said the current iMacs are great at the moment.

for a computer that costs 4000-5000$ and i need to keep it for 5-6 years, i want the very best. and redesign wont happen this year? personaly i dont care, but you definitely dont have any idea what youre talking about, just like i dont. it appears you cant understand a lot of things, that certainly poses a problem in youre life, i hope youll resolve that problem soon. current macs are great, but ivy bridge imacs with next gen gpus will be better, noticeably lower heat, cca 50% boost in gpu, usb 3, bluetooth 4 and maybe a redesign. if someone can wait, he would be pretty darn stupid not to. youre either feeling buyers remorse, or just a troll (i was gonna use another word, but moderators could find it pretty offensive) so please remain silent if you dont have anything remotely smart to say. thanks

war

... and what if israel decides to attack Iran and all hell breaks loose? more delay is possible.

just sayin.

Wow. Reminds me of the old days with PPC/IBM.

I bet the Mac Pro gets them in June though.

/fantasy
A month ago I'd be crying foul, but we ordered this fiscals batch of Mac Pro's so the longer the better for my sanity :)
Would hate to unbox a half-dozen boxes just at the same time as Apple releases them :p

My current battery is at 86% health and I'm working very hard to keep it healthy. With 234 charge cycles, it should have a number of charges left, but then again my past two batteries crapped out around this number...

Seriously? I have a 2008 MacBook Unibody 13" with 1180 cycles and still running 5 hours (it used to be 5.5).

Agreed! Very interesting article! Thanks!

In fact, I wouldn't buy anything, ever if I were you.

Unlike dh2005, I LOL'd. :D

And I've never even heard of Haswell, Broadwell, Skylake or Skymont. Any good articles on that?

Dang that stinks. I was planning on building myself an Ivy Bridge with the i5 3570K or i7 3770K, Radeon HD 7870 and 80 plus Gold PSU. To use much less energy than my current computer while being far faster.

I doubt I'll overclock besides for a benchmark or two. I just like the idea of having the option to overclock.

I definitely think Apple bought the majority of Ivy Bridge chips for their new iMacs and MBPros and will be the first to market with them.

To sit there and say Apple has no sway is ridiculous.

Money talks and Apple has it. They probably paid Intel a additional 'rights' fee for the first to market like they do with their other vendors with parts.

Apples shipments of all their Mac lines (iMac, MacPro, MacAir) have increased like Schiller has said...so if anything...who is going to threaten Intel with leaving when all the other competitions business is dwindling in sales?

Lets be realistic, if intel doesn't release Ivy Bridge until June, Apple won't do anything until July or later.

Um...Intel said MASS AVAILABILITY wouldn't be till June. It's being released in April. That means if you build your own PC from Newegg, then you arent going to be able to buy the processor till then.

The first batch has most likely been secured by Apple along with a few from HP, Dell, etc...but I'm 99% sure that Apple will be first to market due to pre-purchase rights.

Dude, I'm still limping on a 2004 PowerBook G4 (12"). I think you'll be fine. I will keep waiting Patiently for the next rev.

Dude, I'm belly crawling on a 2004 iBook 12"...

i wanted a imac for a while now, and i just got a job during the time the newest one came out, but if i were to spend the money i just earned to buy the imac my money would have went down to a number near 0, and that is not a comfortable number, so i decided to wait for the next one. Now i have money to buy imacs multiple time, they are going to be delayed. the waiting is killing me.

currently i am using a hp laptop, waiting to buy my very first apple computer.
the hp laptop is about 4-5 years old now, and the sound card on it just stops working from time to time and i got a feeling this laptop wont last much longer. i do hope i will be able to buy an imac before my laptop dies.

UGHHH!! I'm on a Oct 2006 C2D iMac right now and been patiently waiting for the new iMac's to arrive. I don't know if I'll be able to last until 'after June'.

Have you read anything anywhere to indicate that?

i dont care if they postpone it until december. im not buying old technology because they have to much of it. i will still wait.

... and what if israel decides to attack Iran and all hell breaks loose? more delay is possible.

It's a farce. Iran's government is controlled by the British, and has been at least since the 1970s.

They may well stage an attack for show, but no one will be killed.

Not exactly devastating news.

Gives me a little more time to save for a pimped out 11inch MBA and a chance to see if the new iPad might be a contender too.
