This is a non issue. There are plenty of ultracompact USB-C/USB-A adapters that you can stick to the end of your cable and never take it off, acting like if it was an actual USB-C peripheral. They are very cheap and reliable.
I use a few from Satechi but plenty of brands sell these.
Why? I bought a computer that has everything built in so I don't have to spend extra money on other garbage I have to lug around on shoots. NO THANKS.

I think they’re great, fun and certainly a cool take. Still a Mac user though as I just can’t find a windows pc that comes close to the build quality of Macs.

There are plenty out there. Macs are not built all that great anyways when their screens crack for no reason.

This sure seems like an awful lot of Ad/Marketing spend against a current customer that only has 7% PC marketshare and is just some “lifestyle brand”, in the words of the current Intel CEO.

Meanwhile, Intel has to down port USP features from 10nm process to 14nm because they just can’t get their “yields” UP. Somebody needs to remind Gelsinger that he can now buy Viagara and Cialis anonymously for his fabs.

I don't know of any computer that can meet anyone's ports needs.

True, but swapping just one USB-C port for a USB-A would be a huge convenience for many users. When I'm my desk I have a cheap adapter that connects everything - fine. But 90% of the time when I'm away from my desk and I need to connect something, it's USB-A, be it a thumb drive, non-networked printer, VGA to USB adapter in a conference room, etc.

I haven't really understood that hate of dongles. I don't know of any computer that can meet anyone's ports needs. For instance, I still realy heavily on VGAs as I teach in colleges, where it remains the only way to plug your computer into the projector. But these days, very few laptops come with a VGA port. You'll need an adapter at some point for anything. So why not have one that serves multi purposes?

If the facility you're using doesn't have HDMI, then that's the facility's fault for not keeping up with the times. HDMI has been standard for at least the past 5 years. I can't remember the last time I've used VGA for a presentation or had to separate audio hook ups.

The problem is Apple deletes ports without consideration for present use cases. Relying on USB-C isn't the answer when the world isn't built around USB-C yet.

No solution is perfect, but having HDMI probably satisfies 80% of the users out there. Same thing with Ethernet.

And yet the latest rumors point to macbook pros getting the ports back... Without an intel processor.

No. Correction. YOU don't. Millions of people are not going to buy new devices JUST to appease the great fruit like yourself. You are the exception, NOT the rule.

I'd actually argue that millions of people don't ever plug anything into their computer, making this argument a moot point.

That being said, USB-C is the future, either jump on board now or wait it out, but eventually you'll have to make the switch. I'm sure there were D-sub diehards at the advent of USB-A as well.

I hate Intel for their monopolistic habits.
I think Intel deserves the dumpster it lives in now due to lack of innovation and hubris.
I think Justin doing these ads is a pathetic, souless move. Hope the crazy amount of money is worth it.

But they are right about the dongle mess. Apple design team got too focused on how things looked, not how things work.

Bring back ports, at least on pro machines. And no more shortcuts like having underpowered ports on consumer machines. It’s embarassing. Not Justin Long embarassing, but still pretty bad.

Apple face-planted removing the SD Card reader. Pro's don't upgrade their cameras that cost $5k and beyond for 10+ years or more. Having to have a dongle for that specific thing twas GOOFY.
Lol. Pros update their cameras all the time. They are tax deductible and a cost of doing business, and after so many shutter activations and after they depreciate, they move on. I don’t know any professional photographers who are using 10 year old cameras.

I know it's not what you meant, but I'm guessing that most of the people who buy computers don't just throw them out when the battery dies. :p

In local stationery stores I see very few dongles, hubs and adapters for sale.
Instead I see many cables with USBC on one end and some other connector at the the other end.

Surely this means that’s what’s selling and people have realised they can buy an appropriate cable instead 🤔

Also, isn’t Intel itself largely responsible for the lack of ports when their own thunderbolts chips can only support two at a time?

Working with PC laptops, they just offered the missing ports if the laptop design was too small to incorporate them instead using a desktop laptop dock, or a thunderbolt dock with numerous ports.

Apple didn't go out of their way to offer their own USB-C multiport adapters, 3rd parties made those.

If you don't want to carry something so big you ended up with various dongles which is what was being made fun of.

Obviously its better to get something like a Satechi Aluminum USB-C Multiport Pro Adapter as a example rather then spend the money on several dongles for a smaller Mac laptop if you need the ports. :)

A) Dongles have nothing to do with the CPU inside, dongles are needed for INTEL macs! There are many PC laptops with INTEL inside that also need dongles. What are they trying to proof by bringing up dongles?
B) The replies to the tweet on tweeter are almost universally backlash at INTEL for posting something this idiotic.

Talk about shooting yourself on foot. Actually not too hard when you are wearing giant clown shoes.
I’m not sure you folks are getting these ads and the messaging. There is going to be a time quite soon when there will only be Mac (Arm) and PC (X86). There will be no X86 Macs. Intel are messaging that if you want choice in colours, style, form factor, touchscreens, ports, gaming, multiple price points etc, then go PC...because PC‘s use Intel. It is not about the merits of the chips inside.

I have an Intel 2 in 1, and a MacBook Air, as well as as iOS devices.

* Macs do not need to be 2 in 1 tablets. They have exceptionally good trackpads with the best multigestures. Every other trackpad I have tried sucks by comparison.
* Intel 2-in-1s not only have trackpads that generally suck, but they REALLY suck as tablets. This is mostly the fault of Windows 10 which fails at both tablet and laptop interfaces.
* I would have dumped my Intel out of frustration by now, except that I installed Linux Mint which made everything better. That’s right....My Intel box was improved by making it more Mac-like.
* The only reason I did not dump Windows entirely are for a couple of software dependencies, and Windows Subsystem for Linux 2, which allows me to do some real work in Docker. Some of the software dependencies now run in Wine under Linux.
* When M1 fully supports Docker, Brew and Parallels, I will go there, adding the already great software like Logic Pro X.

If you're asking for HDMI, then your laptop is on a desk. In a fixed position with your monitor plugged in. Which means you have the choice of dozens of hubs.
That’s a narrow view of the use of a laptop - what about going somewhere to present a presentation? It’s not uncommon for me. Now I need a Swiss Army knife of dongles.
