Things like faster processors, LARGER screen size, dual-link DVI output, metalic vs. plastic skin, are the advantage. Plus, often those buying the Pro models have the $$$ to afford it. Just like the iBook/Powerbook G4 laptops, you'll see similar configuration/pricing with the Macbooks/MBP laptops.

the dual-link DVI output, and possibly the metallic skin will be in the next ibook...it should be, considering what the pc side has for the same price as what the ibook will be at in the $1000-1500 dollar range

of course, it won't be as fast as the macbook pro but i don't see much difference between the two computers...ram on ibook should be 512 but hard drive will probably be considerably smaller

$1000-1500? Hope so, it may start at $1200.

It's kind of funny I read this tonight. Just did a little increase in my credit amoutn through macmall, yeah yeah yeah.... So I was like, I need something portable, don't need the power of a powerbook, so maybe I'll buy an ibook. Then I think, wait, I better check macrumors and this is sitting at the top. Think I'll wait it out for another week or two to see if I might get the new "ibook."

Make it with 15 inch screen and you've got the MacBook Pro!

Intel GMA 965 and 975

Hello everyone, does anyone know anything about the upcoming 965 and 975 GMA 'next generation' iGPU's from Intel and the likeliness of Apple including hopefully the latter in its 'next generation' MacBook computer?

I know both the 965 and 975 are due in Q2 of this year...

Also, does anyone know how much these chipsets are better than the current 950 (maybe an early benchmark)? and whether they are suitable for modest gaming needs of a MacBook customer.

Regards

Mac Solutions Sale: iBook G4/1.2GHz 12.1" for $699, more
For its existing customers, Mac Solutions offers discounts on several Apple iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 Notebooks. A best bet: The iBook G4/1.2GHz 12" Notebook with 12.1" 1024x768 LCD, 256MB RAM, 30GB hard drive, and CD-ROM for $699. These systems are all new and factory-sealed. Deal ends April 18.

Notice ending date of April 18, which is next Tuesday, possibly the same release date for 13" Macbooks. Hmmm... could it be? ;)

Nice deal, but that isn't even a current generation iBook, so I don't know what to read into that. I guess it could mean that they're expecting to get a job lot of 1.33Ghz 12" iBooks on Tuesday, so need to sell their remaining slower ones quickly.

What about another MacBook?

Doesn't it seem a little silly to think that Apple will replace both the iBook and 12" Powerbook with the same product?
It seems a bit more likely (and I've seen mention of this on other rumors sites) that Apple will be releasing a MacBook Thin (MOSR) to replace the 12" Powerbook (http://www.macosrumors.com/20060402A.php). This MacBook would have the dedicated VRAM that everyone seems so upset about getting, but would fall into a midrange price tier, much like the 12" Powerbook G4 did.
As for me, I'm looking to buy a new i/MacBook when they come out simply because it will accomplish what I need it to accomplish. The integrated graphics card looks like good news to me, because it will likely mean either a lower cost or a greater expenditure on other features that simply mean more to me (iSight, etc). Integrated graphics cards perform very well in my experience, getting what I need accomplished done easily. For those of you who game or feel some other need for a dedicated graphics card (though in my experience Photoshop runs fine on an integrated graphics card), the MacBook Thin would offer the middle ground between lower-end user and pro-user. For the rest of us, thank god Steve Jobs knows where to cut costs and how to keep us happy.

longer iBook G4 ship times!

I was browsing the (UK) Online Apple Store, as I do.

The iBook page has said 24hr ship time for months, but today it says 2 days!

Considering this is unlikely to be from a sudden, unexpected surge in demand (most people know that something is coming, and would advise others likewise), and that in my experience, ship times increase in preparation for a product replacement, I draw from this that intelibooks (macbooks / whatever the name) must be less than a week away for this update to occur - REJOICE!!

I've put a screenshot below for those too lazy to go to the apple store's website:

I see that it's still 24hr on the US site, but then why else would apple have changed the UK one if not for imminent announcement?

Oh, and here's to a shiny black core duo with swivel-touchscreen ;) :D

Everyone is excited about the upcoming macbook and guessing next tuesday as probable announcement day but I'm a little pessimistic about it. Latest rumors and discounts on current ibooks don't give enough clue that macbook is really close to appear. I don't expect it coming before May, however there is nothing wrong with being hopeful :)

i'm considering in buying a mac book but i wanted to know if you members know about how much it would be? i really want to get rid of my windows computer

Impossible to say, depends on what features it has. Between $1000 and $1500. Higher price range is likely if there is a dedicated graphics card. Have a read through some of the earlier posts.

announcement next week? this new article from applinsider says there could be.... http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1670
AI is references the same article I posted above. AI is only a day late reporting it, but I guess they are not as jazzed as I am about the new books. :D

I personally don't think we will see new Macbooks next Tuesday. Its too early. But I'm ready for it as soon as Apple can get their act together. I'll be down at my local Apple Store the day I read the good news on this beautiful forum. I've got 2x1GB DDR2-PC5300 memory modules ready to install, as well as a 100GB 7200RPM SATA laptop hard drive. Don't worry, I'll post picts, and we will all know the day of release whether or not it has a socketed CPU. ;) :D

£1000 and I'm yours truly :D

Drop the Superdrive (Combo drive on that model almost definitely, it'll cost you extra for the SD), and perhaps make it either a Core Solo 1.5 or Integrated Graphics (hopefully not both, but you never know) and you've probably got a good idea of what we're going to see in the lower model. I dunno if they'll even make that model £1000, the current top-end one isn't, is it?

I have a hard time believing that the MB will have a backlit keyboard. I do think that it is possible for Apple to pull off a 999 version. But I doubt they will.

Black..... yummy.

no green tab on mb pro

hey i was jus checkin the US Apple store online and saw that the green shipping time on the macbook pro is missing.....hmmmm...i wonder wat that could mean???....r the macbooks finally comin???

Holy Jesus. I can't see a backlit keyboard. In a laptop that size I'd expect iSight, but no frontrow. Hopefully a 64MB Gfx card, not IIG. Everything else the same. About $1200US and I'm sold. :)

It could mean that however if you look, every single Mac on the uk store has a ship time of 2 days now. even the macbook pros which were shipping in 24hrs the last time I checked.

Drop the SuperDrive? This model is around $1700 in America, so it would be roughtly $1400 asking price (we are overpriced over here by far).

I think it would be reasonable to ask for a dedicated GPU and SuperDrive along with 80GB HDD at this price...don't you?

It's bank holiday weekend and there's nobody in to process orders. All products are delayed by two days as you can see if you surf around.
