I would love to see a projected side-by-side comparisson to evaluate how much snappier the Broadwell and Skylake chips are in comparrison to the lastest and greatest MPB on shelf now. Anyone? Anyone?
You mean something like a snappiness comparison? That would be awesome :)

True that, if Intel could launch skylake 6 months from now. would definitely wait the skylake mbp.

If skylake launches 6 months from now it will likely only be the low power Core M variant. Skylake U will probably be a year off and Skylake H even longer then that.

I highly doubt intel will release all variants at once.

Too little too late? If one can, wait for Skylake at this point.

Yep, my late-2011 15" MBP can still handle an additional 12-to-18 months of work.
I'll wait for Skylake and will probably get the 2016 MBP.

Will we get a completely new Mac mini design with these new CPUs or will Apple wait for Skylake? Since they just "updated" the Mac mini (debatable) will they wait another two or three years and then stop making it because they didn't sell enough units?

It's like they're trying to kill it on purpose. :(

Just give up on the Mac Mini. It's always going to be the emasculated bastard of the Mac lineup.

"Good things come to those who wait."

Most of the time. ;)

please give us a new form factor 15 inch rmpb, I've been waiting my whole life (if feels like) for this. skylake, broad well, i don't care. just something new please.

So far I've heard Skylake will not be delayed and could drop in late Q3. That could change but fingers are crossed.

Broadwell came out in October. In other words, the U variants of Skylake won't see light until CES 2016, most likely.

That's my plan unless my GPU/logic board dies after my AppleCare expires (end of July this year). I'll re-evaluate if and when that time comes whether or not I want to have the GPU re-balled or just sell the system for parts and buy a new MBP (or perhaps an iMac because I'm not traveling for work like I used to any more).

The excuse was that the quad core chips had a different "footprint" than the duals, and the richest company in the world, with the supply chain master, could not manage to handle two different motherboards in the mini.

My question is - are the quads a different "footprint" again with broadwell? If they are, then I can see the minis getting updated yearly now - since the air is the new standard for the mini, not the MBPs.

My late 2007 MBP still works really well running Yosemite. Can it hold out until Skylake, I wonder.

If you haven't already, drop in a SSD drive and your 2007 MBP will feel like a new machine...unless you're doing heavy computing and 3-D graphics of course.

Does this mean any advances for the Xeons?

It’s about time we had a Mac Pro refresh?

Yeah you do that. There is always something slightly better "right around the corner". And while you're waiting - I will be enjoying my 12" retina Broadwell MacBookAir.

They aren't going to "drop" every single variant of Skylake CPUs when they first ship. Just like with any other generation - Intel will do incremental releases, starting with ULL chips (not suitable for any MacBooks), followed by mobile/U chips and then desktops. Skylake-U series is unlikely to ship before Q1 2016, but even if it ships in 2015 - that doesn't mean Apple will offer immediate Mac refreshes.

Bottom line - in all likelihood - you won't seeing any Skylake MacBooks in 2015.

It's about time Intel! now apple will probably put these same chips into the 2015 Mac mini and introduce to the world the 2015 "Mac mini air pro" 20% thinner than the previous version! Yay! :D:confused:

Thunderbolt 3 sounds neat, straight from wiki: . "Power capacities of up to 100 watts, will allow companies like Apple to build single-cable MacBook products, as there won’t be any need for a separate power connector for powering/charging the device."

Makes you wonder if Apple will wait to pull a MBA "redesign" till Skylake and remove the magsafe in place of thunderbolt, possibly a second port? But that doesn't make much sense on a MBA.

Magsafe isn't going anywhere. Seriously, are you going to carry a Thunderbolt Display with you, to charge your MacBook while traveling?

People who believe that Skylake is soon to follow must be daydreaming.

Broadwell, as any new architecture, is an investition and Intel will definately wait to make some money. I bet that mid 2016 is the earliest possible moment we can expect 6th gen.

If Skylake comes out in 2015 I'm shaving my head bald.
