Broadwell-U is the perfect chip to use in the next Macbook Pro, to kill it in favour of the iMac.

Wonder if these Apple will engage these new Intel offerings in future Mac Mini and bury the 2014 castrated Minis. What a disgrace.

Where is the low wattage quad-core that is supposed to show up for every new Intel cpu generation? So we can have quad-core becoming standard in 13'' laptops.

Early 2016 would be the soonest we will see any Skylake-based MacBooks. Sure, if you don't need a new Mac this year - go ahead and wait. That same rule applies to any new generation / upgrade / refresh.

There is nothing special or unique about Skylake that makes it a "must", not any more so than any other iteration of Intel CPUs.

Fair enough. But I've read that it will only be with Skylake that the implementation of its Thunderbolt spec will finally allow a 15" rMBP to output to a 5K external display at 60Hz. Have you heard that?

I wish Intel would stop wasting Silicon Space on these dam on-board GPU's.

Even in the "Proper" PC Computing world where people naturally buy proper graphics cards, you still have these dumb GPU's forced onto the chips we don't want.

I'm happy they make them for those with minimal requirement, but PLEASE Intel put this space to better use for proper Desktop users.

Most people use the onboard graphics, only a very tiny percentage of the market uses a graphics card or a discreet GPU for a portable device.

It's not worth Intel producing a whole range of SKU's without integrated graphics. Integrated graphics are more than adequate for the vast majority of people.

Skylake will offer broader support for DDR4 RAM but Skylake will be a significant update, more so than anything before it, particularly for desktop PC's. I agree that it simply another iteration of Intel CPU's, although Skylake is quite a step forward compared to Sandy/Ivy Bridge, Haswell & Broadwell.

I just hope Intel do not delay Skylake until 2016.

I think, we will see a Mac mini redesing this year, because the Mac mini celebrates in 2015 it's is 10th Birthday. ;)

It was first introduced in January 10, 2005 with an an PowerPC G4 with speed from 1.25 to 1.5 GHz, 256 MB RAM and Radeon 9200 graphics (32 or 64 MB versions).

Well it's not like that had a choice do they?

How about you give them a choice and see what they pick?

Apple decide our laptop it having Intel Integrated Graphics and that's it.
You want an Apple laptop you have integrated graphics.

You are making it sound as if people are choosing them as they like them.
they are not given the choice in the 1st place.

Like saying No one is selecting Mint ice cream at the Apple ice cream store when they only sell Vanilla or chocolate.

Having a discreet GPU in a MacBook Air for example is ridiculous and it's too thin to be able to accommodate adequate cooling.

I have integrated graphics in my MacBook Pro and it's more than sufficient, plus allows the machine to run cool and have excellent battery life.

i think at WWDC 2015 we will having a nice update like it was in 2012..all the macs will get the broadwell
i wonder what cpu will be in the macbook pro 15"? i dont see quad core broadwell

quad-core or bust... Just not enough CPU improvement with the dual cores for me to justify upgrading my 2011 MBP 13" i7 with 16gb and a 256gb SDD paired with a 750gb HD (in place of the DVD). Yes it would be "nice" to get a better display and the new SSD drives are quite a bit faster, however I would lose built-in ethernet and firewire which I still use. To get the equivalent RAM and storage with an i7 would be $2700 currently.... For that I want much bigger bang!

CPU's are all about being more power efficient. Gone are the days were you would get a massive bump in CPU performance from one generation to the next. Having said that, any modern Core i3/i5/i7 CPU from 2010 onwards is more than good enough for the vast majority of users.

If people need raw number crunching power then Intel offers a range of i7 & i7 Extreme CPU's (up to 8 cores) that are more than capable. If you want more than that, then there's the Xeon range. If you are after that kind of power then of course you wouldn't be using a notebook. The CPU's on offer today are more than good enough. The real serious power CPU's are just not suitable for thin and light MacBooks!

I'm happy that you find integrated graphics are good enough for you.

Perhaps I find a Volkswagen Beatle good enough for me, but that does mean I feel the only car's on offer should be Volkswagen Beetles.

Start shaving. :p

Yep, intel confirmed at their dev conference a few weeks before xmas that Skylake is still on course for release in the 2nd half of 2015.

I have an antitrust feeling about this bundling of graphics with all CPUs by Intel.

Aww geezuz! I was going to 'finally' get rid of my aging 2008 MBP for a shiny new 2015 Broadwell laptop, now you tell me it's successor Skylake will also be available in 2015?! It never stops, does it.

If I'm a new Broadwell owner, am I going to feel like a dork for not waiting a poultry few months for Skylake?

I really hate this.

Skylake is a new platform/architecture.
Broadwell is nothing new, its just the tock in intels release cycle. tick is where the new stuff is generally implemented or pushed.

As with all things, if you are wanting something and it does the job, it doesn't matter what the next thing is. there will always be a new shinny thing, that obsolesces is built in from day one.

Based on the public released info from intel, both chip architectures will be offered around the same time frame. However, intel could alway simply delay or restrict the release of Skylake (even though they confirmed only weeks ago its schedule). Until its in a product its just gossip and forum talk,

The MacBook Air/Pro are not the only notebooks on the market. Find something that suits your needs if a GPU is what you need.

Would you buy a VW Beetle if you had 5 kids?

Yeah, I'm not upgrading my Macbook Pro until it has Skylake.

You may not see these until late 2015 or early 2016 from what I am reading? Either way any new chip will just be a bit better than the next, just waiting until the MBA's get an update to pull the trigger, not buying now.

That's right. Skylake is an entirely different architecture. So while raw performance gains from the CPU might be inconsequential, there are other significant benefits from it.

If Intel wants to release Skylake right after Broadwell, you'd think that it is not in their interest to announce this early, as they'll Osborne effect themselves.

If they're not, and Skylake is going to be a while, isn't it in Intel's interest to announce this? They'll get flak for when Skylake will finally launch, but it'll make clear Broadwell is around for a while.

Maybe MacBook Air's stay with Broadwell, then MBPs go Skylake first
