iMac Update

I just got home and no new iMac. According to UPS it should be at my house tomorrow. I will play with it over the weekend and get back to you guys on my thoughts. Regardless... it will be a very nice upgrade for my mother (she was using a 400MHz iMac).

Excellent. By any chance, do you have a current copy of either Windows XP or Vista Beta? If so, can you check out their compatibility for us? It would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

XP will not load on the new Intel Macs..XP uses BIOS..OS X for Intel uses EFI.
;)

Umm...the MacBook Pro? How hard is it not to get that the MacBook Pro is the "new PowerBook"

If you're going to be condescending, at least answer the question he asked.

But what are they going to call the Power Mac?

Power Mac is not the same as PowerBook.

Power Macs are the desktops, like the G5. Since these are geared toward professionals, perhaps "ProMac" or just "Mac"...

Be that as it may, but no one is yet sure if Apple has included the BIOS compatibility layer in the EFI, which would enable XP to load. So, the only way to find out, is to test whether or not XP works.

Thanks;)

So, have you got it yet? have you checked it for compatibility, ven though Peace already thinks it wont work with XP. Please, for everyone, try it!!!

as soon as you do it, email me here please: cameronius@gmail.com.

Good news, it seems that Win XP MCE does support EFI, maybe someone with MCE and the new intel mac could give installing MCE a try.

i have read up on EFI.
but why havent peopled started trying this, you would think that it would be one of the first thing to do

MCE= Media Center Edition..

You people really need to read up on EFI too..

Where do you get off? Being so smug. You keep correcting everyone, when it is quite obvious, having read your posts, that you yourself have no idea what you're talking about! I think you should do some reading about EFI, then you can perhaps put some constructive imput into this forum.

Thanks

(posted this in another similar thread)
Someone at MacNN forums has tried to use their WinXP CDs and has failed (supposedly also Ubuntu failed)

of course we don't know if he's exactly doing it right or if it proves at all about the EFI backwards comp module not existing...

You know..I have done a LOT of reading about EFI,OpenFirmware et.al.

I do appologize for sounding smug..Please keep in mind I see alll these people talking about how easy it's going to be to do a dual-boot with OS X Intel and Windows. And it's starting to really bring me down..

It is possible to do the dual boot but one has to write compatibility into it.

Since I see no reason to dual boot an inferior O/S with a far superior one it just baffles me..

So bro..cheer up and go try the dual boot..
Good Luck! :)

Many people do, however. There are many applications which some users cannot run on OS X and need Windows for, so for them it would make a lot more sense. We all have different needs though of course. :)
