Actually this is a good reason to go for this one.
Second, I'm quite sure there'll be a transition period of 2-3 years that one could buy both architectures.
If Apple could move faster than that nearly 15 years ago, what makes you think they would be even slower today?

Based on the Apple of today, it might be longer. Do you believe that they are moving at a good pace with the macOS or other software today compared to then?

The iPads should be running macOS already, more accessories like the mouse should be usable now.

Not if they move to Apple chips for Macs. What has been slowing them down is hardware. I think they even said as much recently. It doesn't make much sense for them to keep upgrading all the time for small speed bumps.

Yeah, I've said many times around here that I think a macOS "Lite" should be included on the iPad and you should be able to switch into that mode if you want. Would be great for attaching to a display too. Basically it would look and behave similar to macOS but be locked down to apps and certain API limitations like iOS. It would have a subset of Mac features but most of the important ones like Finder with access to external drives via USB-C, and apps would just have a desktop API to convert the UI to be more mouse friendly, perhaps even merging appkit and uikit—but in the reverse of Marzipan which has made for some sub-optimal apps on the Mac like News, Home, etc that just feel like iPhone ports. Perhaps it could also limit windowing so that there aren't a lot of apps running in the background. Could be a good middle-ground for being more productive on the iPad while also keeping the Mac around for a primary heavy-duty work machine.

No disagreement about that.

Tim Cook claimed that the iPad Pro is a laptop replacement without providing the OS to justify that statement.

The macOS that I want the iPad Pro to run should be a full fledged OS.
