That’s called iMac Pro
Must have missed my MBP having ECC RAM, barely adequate graphics, Xeon CPU, and USB-A ports.
That’s called iMac Pro
Because when the imac’s lcd craps the bed from heat, you pay 4x more to replace the lcd than what the whole thing is worth. Our not quite 3 yr old imac now has a second monitor in front that I bought on craigslist for $50. To buy just the lcd and replace it ourselves was $550 without any warranty. No more imacs for us.
My ‘11 iMac is suffering from a bad GPU. I fired it up tonight to restore my wife’s new iPad. I was very grateful it worked. I’m hoping I can make it till the newest iMacs come out.
This is the one reason that puts me off of the iMAC as much as I do really want one!
I tend to shy away from 'all-in-one' machines since if the screen dies, then your whole computer is useless - at least with a Mac Mini or Mac Pro the screen can be replaced quickly and easily.
I mean, I do purchase AppleCare generally, and I will probably end up purchasing an iMAC when they are updated this year, but that's only because I don't think I can wait another year for a new Mac Pro!
Yep. But not much in the way of options from Apple for years now. When you can get a great 5k screen with your iMac for less than the cost of a 3 year old Mac Pro by itself, there just is no option. And if you go Laptop you have the same all in one issues.
Yeah. Two monitors if you want, unless they're thunderbolt enabled displays, in which case you can daisy-chain up to six of them depending on their resolution and the GPU you've got in your iMac.If you go laptop you can at least connect an external monitor and use the system even if the laptops own display has packed up - can you do the same with an iMAC?

And that right there is why I think Apple is going the wrong way.I'm considering saving money and going more disposable by getting a 21" iMac.
Yeah, we did that. Bought a $50 ASUS 27” monitor from craigslistWith the same screen resolution. Problem is: it covers the video camera, takes up desk space, sometimes waking the ASUS is slow, and you still have to power the imac monitor even though it doesn’t work!Ah - so if the iMAC display was to go belly up the computer could still be used via another monitor in the meantime.... Guess that's something I suppose....!
Good luck. I had the GPU fail years ago, but it was close enough to the recall point that Apple swapped it for just the cost of work. The latest failure might be CPU.

That will not be happening, although it will of course have Thunderbolt 3. Even if they did go USB-C only, that’s not a bad thing with desktops, it makes things more expensive but it means you have a lot more flexibility with ports and adapters aren’t a big deal. It is a big deal with portable devices however, where you have to carry around the adapters, and there’s the risk of forgetting them.My 2011 iMac developed GPU glitches, bad pixels occasionally on the screen, freezes, all kinds of issues.
I took more care to keep it cool and it's still going strong, with no issues anymore. Sun blocker curtain, fan on it when overused, etc. And ALL GOOD. Thought I'd have to replace it, but no… now, it's just SLOW and won't run Mojave!

Mac Mini with just one USB-C port.
Absolute nightmare.

That would require Apple to actually redesign the enclosure. My bet is everything stays exactly the same as it is on the current model, but they replace the thunderbolt 2 port with a thunderbolt 3 port. Seems like the least amount of effort, and that's what the Mac team seems to be all about these days. Here's my fear based on recent Apple trends…
