Hey guys, I've been following these threads for awhile because I'm in the market for a new (and first) macbook pro. I'm mostly going for the base 13" MBP which I will buy in the next month or so. My question is that when you guys say that the C2Ds will be discontinued, do you think that support for the processor will also be phased out? I mean, will there be newer versions of eg. photoshop that will eventually REQUIRE more than a C2D?
Sorry if this is an obvious question or something...

Eventually, yes, but not within the near future. Millions still have C2Ds and companies rarely update their computers, meaning that support for C2D will continue for years so you have nothing to worry about

as some info on lliano is already given ill give some info about the architecture its build on. I belive it is bulldozer.

i read a very good article on it some days ago but i cant ind it. A google search gave this http://www.anandtech.com/show/2872

While new info on the Sandbrige/AMD issue doesn't come by, what do you guys think we'll see on the 15'' and 17'' MBPs? To be honest, I don't see many possible upgrades, aside maybe from the standard hi-res screen and a 7200 RPM HDD as default, since they already upgraded processor, graphic's card, AND memory last time. What are you guys' $0.02 on the subject? Do you think we'll see a change of the iX processor, so we can have USB 3.0?

There is i5 560M/580M (2.66GHz) and i7 640M (2.8GHz) coming later on this year. That would be the normal update, 130MHz in CPU speed.

Intel has to stop making core 2 duo because its their "old" brand, and they want to sell you the new brand (core i3, i5, i7). But don't worry, C2D is the most popular and most used processor in the world (at least for gaming: http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/)

This is the processor used in the MB PRO 13" http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=35568.

You'll be happy with your new computer, and if they release a new version in 5-6 months you can sell it and buy a new one. I heard macbooks have a great resell value!

The main page mentions USB 3.0 on their new Mac Pro. Maybe that means USB 3.0 will get spread through out their other products? :p

Hopefully, but I doubt it's happening yet, Mac Pro usually gets stuff like that first. Sometime in 2011, I can see it happening. The controller chip itself is ridiculously small, around 1cm x 1cm

Yeah, obviously. I was just guessing, since usually it's considered that Mac Pro's updates shouldn't be too far. So I'm guessing that, assuming a MBP update by January~February, those updates will already be post-Mac-Pro updates. Thus, the possible inclusion of USB 3.0... :D
