I know Erik :) I just had to give our Good buddy Dave a hard time. Ok, ok I tried to take the high road but I just couldn’t control my inner Beavis. I mean “road trip” “met online” “Bunns”. It was like divine intervention.

Oh I know where you were going (and thought it funny). I was just putting that out there for others to see. A face to a username kind of makes it real, you know? :)

Heck yeah it does. Its so easy to wind up & lash out With little consideration of others online. Keaton128 was a good guy - enjoyed his company here & in chat. iMac 24” gpu & neogeo X from guy on the right. Still waiting on a few doodads from guy on the left.

Greetings! and welcome! Boy oh boy, do i envy you. It's just my opinion, but having grown up in the 80s/90s, some of those computers really define an era of computing. Back when there was a definite separation between Macintosh and Windows platforms. Owning an Apple product had I suppose, a certain prestige to it, which wasn't entirely unfounded. The G4 DA case, the Blue & White G3 it preceded, all had style at a time when Windows PC's came in a cream beige box.

Best of luck!

(not my Image)

This 1999 PC doesn't look like beige to me :D It still doesn't have any kind of style tho.

Come to think of it, it seems to me that the manufacturer may have had a little inspiration from somewhere else...
I wish I knew who, though...
So that Barbie PC directly lead to the development of the Cube? They only removed the flowers ...
It should find it's way into MOMA too!

Or a Russian made with this porcupine like (heat sinks) with 4x cloned IBM PowerPC 601 CPUs running as a Transputer. Russians were really busy cloning stuff in the early 80s and 90s then.

The SGI O2 was released in '97, and was a major player in many high-end and professional industries at the time. My guess is that the Barbie and Hot Wheels people pulled a few pages from the former's book then, and surprisingly enough, nobody suspected otherwise.

I don't think it's surprising - people who were the target population for this $599 POS (that price was for the whole setup you see on the picture) had no idea what an O2 was.

That's a really low and bold statement to push. I've been lurking on the sub for a while because I genuinely miss working on this stuff, but as you guessed it regular life gets in the way.

Anyways, I had to actually post again because I have actually personally met Bunns in person and this statement is FAR from the truth. I went on a country wide trip a few years ago and Bunns not only invited me over to help me diagnose my dead Quicksilver, but once we found my CPU (1ghz DP) was dead, he sent me home with the best replacement he had at the time, free of charge mind you.

The entire time I was there, he kept offering me FREE machines, of which I obviously wanted, but knew they wouldn't get the love and attention they deserve so I turned a LOT down. And I mean a LOT. End of the day, I still left with a free CPU and even a few other free goodies that Bunns was more than happy to donate to me.

I don't usually go half way across the country to visit some man I met online, but Bunns and a few other people (you all know who you are) have been seriously some of the nicest and most helpful folks I've yet to meet. Not only did this forum help with my PPC's when I couldn't afford anything better to use in late 2012 but in the past few years even the same people here, helped me buy the Mac of my dreams and to those individuals I thank you. Its these kinds of people that have made my life easier.

Mr. Comda,

Thanks for your comments, and you know I love you like the brother I never would have wanted.

I really enjoyed your all's visit, and hope that we can get together again(or maybe several of us from this sub-forum).

Of course, I remember well-I met you at the gate wearing a 1911 just to wind you up, then of course pretty much any time you looked at something I asked you if you wanted it. As much as anything, I was hoping you'd take on some of the projects I had lying around but never never gotten around to finishing.

Heck, if you'd come last week, I was ALMOST at the point where you might have been able to walk out with a Cube :) (although that would have been a hard one-I actually didn't even put any of them into storage). That's how desperate I was to get stuff moved. For sure I would have let you have the tangerine iBook that I didn't want to part with the first time you visited.

I'll also mention that you left me with something I really wanted to fill a hole in my collection-a 1.42ghz eMac.

I remember you telling me that after you all left, your dad said "First he threatened to shoot us, then he offered us everything in his house." That's kind of how things work in Kentucky :)

Hopefully again we can meet up sometime in the future, although I can't promise it won't be a 44 Mag on my hip next time :p

Oha, sounds good! I 'd like to come over for a cup of coffee and without any further prospects ...
But don't know if this ever will be possible to happen.
vice versa ... you're welcome.

A chat about Macs over a cup of coffee(or glass of sweet tea) is always welcome also :) -especially sitting around the table in 150 year old fine Kentucky-made walnut chairs. Heck, we can guns, Macs, watches, cameras, MGs, chemistry, or any other topic of your choosing :)

All! :)

Hello Everyone - I am interested in getting a PPC Mac to learn/play with older software. Essentially as a hobby computer. Plenty of cheap options on ebay. That being said I am not sure what would make the most sense. Maybe one of the G4 minis or an older laptop. Would be cool to be able to boot OS9. Thoughts? Maybe it is jut a waste of time.

How about an iMac G3? It’s fun, but you end up spending so much.. I’ve already bought some parts for mine for a Mac that I got for $10..

You may even be interested in a G4 upgrade.

I think it’s worth it in the end because you know the person next door does not have a “souped up” Mac 😉
