As the iPad becomes available for pre-order in several countries today, more carriers are providing details on 3G data plans specifically for the new device. Apple recently announced that the iPad will be available starting on May 28 in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.

Last week, Orange UK had announced its pricing, offering daily, weekly, and monthly options for 3G iPad users. Another UK carrier, O2, has now announced its iPad data plan pricing and while a weekly plan is not offered, free Wi-Fi is included in all plans and users will have the option to add data on as needed to avoid overage charges.

O2's iPad data plans

Though information is not yet available on its own website, Canada's Rogers iPad data plan plan pricing is shown on the Apple Canada site. Rogers will offer only monthly plans plus the ability to add an iPad to an existing data plan:

Update: Readers have pointed out that the $20 iPad add-on feature was published by Apple in error and will not actually be available. A Rogers Community Manager confirmed that this was a mistake via Twitter and additional information is now available on the company's official blog.

Links to information on iPad 3G data plans can be found on the Apple store site for each respective country where the iPad will be available starting May 28. Not all carriers listed on these pages have provided detailed pricing yet.

- Germany - O2, Vodafone, and T-Mobile
- France - Orange and SFR
- Italy - Vodafone and 3
- Japan - Softbank
- Spain - Orange, Vodafone, and Telefonica
- Switzerland - Swisscom and Orange

Canada is not as terrible as it could have been. As long as it stays contract free, they might have me...

Ive been paying the 6GB unlimited since its inception.
Ive never gone over 1.1GB in a month :p
I dont think Its worth paying an extra 20 just to add.
When if I do (buy an iPad), Ill see what their offers are.
They seem to change their tune when you actually talk to a sales rep.

Yea, $20 to add is insane, especially if it doesn't come with any extra data in your bucket. They could at least throw in a token few gigs to appease.

Can I just clear up something in case I'm being retarded.

If I just buy a Wifi only iPad, can I not pay TheCloud for PAYG one-off time, and connect to that in an area that supports 'The Cloud'.

I don't see how the 3G is beneficial apart from that fact that you can be 'always connected' via cellular signal.

I wish they could just give it for free for a year to all 6GB users :) I think I have a year left. If they give me a hard time, Ill run the contract out and move on.

UK carriers should consider a 500MB or less option that last a month.

In fact I like that O2 came out with a £10/1GB plan instead of a weekly, it make more sense and at the moment with this choice I would prefer it over Orange.

I want to see Vodafone now, they are the only one with the 7.2 instead of 3.6Mbps.

Anyone notice it doesn't say $20/month. Just $20...

Wishful thinking?

I was hoping this is a one time fee.

This is retarded. You pay for a service that provides DATA, it should be independent on the numebr of devices you chose to have it on. If i want a 3G enabled netbook, a different tablet and another second phone, why the hell do I have to pay for separate plans. My plan should not be tied to my device it should be separate and allowed to move from one device to the next.

I am writing the Canadian Government on this issue immediately since it is retarded. We are getting ripped off. They gave me 6Gb a month let me use it how I wish rather than stickin it to me twice. BS, thats what this is

Traveling

Living in the UK and travelling to Europe a lot, will it be possible to pick up a micro-sim in each country eg France, Germany etc and activate the data plan depending which country we are in. It would then be perfect to travel around with especially camping where Wi-Fi is not avaliable cheaper then iphone international data rates at least!

It appears I could, but anyone know how hard it is to setup the accounts in different countries? I guess all I need to have is a sim for each carrier in each country.

It's strange that Fido don't have info on it; Fido had the iPhone since the beginning and it's Roger's company.... hm...

I'm hoping it will show up eventually. However, I guess it doesn't matter for me since I have a regular "dumbphone" on Fido and if I buy an iPad with its own plan, I don't really care if it's with Fido or a new account on Rogers.

I trust this is a pay-as-you-need-it service, like in the US, with no contract. If so, I'm sold. If not -- forget it.

Hello WIFI model

I think Orange Spain must be smoking crack, to think people will pay $53 a month for 2Gb data cap.....

While Austria is not "international" yet...

... (my iPad will be shipped to a German address ), we seem to be very very lucky with our mobile broadband providers.

While we can still choose from monthly data plans like the ones described here, we also have some prepaid spin-off companies of the big players that offer mobile broadband for almost nothing.

One of these companies offers a Micro Sim starter pack for €14,99 that includes 1GB of transfer for the first month. Each addl. GB/month costs 4€ with no extra charges.
Another company offers 1GB valid 1 year for 20€ for those who won't need much mobile data.

Looking forward to getting my iPad 32GB WiFi+3G :)

No thanks.

Vodafone in particular must be having a laugh

I'm going to be optimistic and say it's a one time fee. If you think about it, people are paying different amounts for different data plans. That means that I would get more for my $20 because I already have a 6GB data plan than the person who only has say, 1GB...or even 500MB.

AT&T is a saint compared to some of these prices. isn't Europe's cell service supposed to be faster and cheaper than the USA?

Hey all,

Does the iPad 3G REQUIRE a 3G signal, or can it work from 2G and Cell signals? Like the iPhone?

I live in a part of England where there is no 3G coverage for several miles, and it's not often I need to go to the City....

Obviously I have my Wireless at home, but when I go out, or ride in the car etc, I'd like to be connected..

It's strange that Fido don't have info on it; Fido had the iPhone since the beginning and it's Roger's company.... hm...
actually no, FIDO came in late in the game. I had Rogers iPhone for over a year before their sub-company FIDO came into the picture.
Now that the iPhone is almost across the board here in Canada, the choice for plans got better.
They all suck eventually :p

austria, the holy 3g land

http://bob.at/breitbandtarifdetails
4eur for evry new GB
0eur/month
no contract
12month time to use that 1GB

*update*
sorry I was talkin nonsene - TheAustrianGuy in some posts above described it correctly

No thanks.

Vodafone in particular must be having a laugh

Vodafone seriously is way out of line!

£10/month: Vodafone 250MB vs O2 1GB
£25/month: Vodafone 5GB vs Orange 10GB

Even though Vodafone has 7.2Mbps is not woth at this price.

Vodafone has to do some changes right away.
