hi O2..

I have an iPhone I'm paying 7.50 for per month for UNLIMITED data. Please try and replicate something similar in a stand alone package

Thanks

(these prices are pushing me away from getting an iPad :()

Computer internet data usage is higher than smartphone ones.

Vodafone seriously is way out of line!

£10/month: Vodafone 250MB vs O2 1GB
£25/month: Vodafone 5GB vs Orange 10GB

Even though Vodafone has 7.2Mbps is not woth at this price.

Vodafone has to do some changes right away.

It's a massive joke really. It's £15 more than what i pay for my broadband package and £5 more than i pay for my iPhone tariff...which has unlimited data

No thanks. Their network is already being overwhelmed anyway thanks to new iPhone subscribers.

If i decide to get an iPad (still not sold), its all but certain to be the Wi-Fi model

O2 in uk

Ok I think O2 are now taking the p1$$

I have home broadband with O2 - costing £18 per month
I have an iPhone with unlimited data for £35
I have iPhone data tethering with unlimited data for £7.50
and now they want another £10 for 1gb?????

Thats a lot of different contracts......

Ironically I can tether my iphone to my laptop and use my laptop as a wifi point to connect the iPad......welcome to portable computing...

I'm off to cancel o2 and get a mifi from 3.

5GB is pretty darn good...how much do you even plan on using?

When I'm mostly at home I use 100-200mb of wireless data. When I'm on the road I get up to 6gb (streaming, emails, photo uploads).
I'd have really liked an unlimited option, not that I'm getting a current gen iPad though.

actually no, FIDO came in late in the game. I had Rogers iPhone for over a year before their sub-company FIDO came into the picture.
Now that the iPhone is almost across the board here in Canada, the choice for plans got better.
They all suck eventually :p

Hmm, no. I'm pretty sure I bought my iPhone on day one it came in Canada, and I got it from Fido. The reason I chose Fido over Rogers was because Fido charges you by the second and not by the minute like Rogers...

No it didn't, I got the iPhone on Fido in September 2008 and it came to Rogers in mid or Summer 2008.

that 1 Trillion Dollar European Bailout is going to arrive just in time to help cover the costs of these European Data rates.

Dumb pipes coming soon ?

What I found interesting about Roger's plan is if you're on the $35 / 5GB plan and you go over that cap, you can simply buy another "month" of service and the billing period changes then at that date.

While only just a start, it seems that's going half of the way to Robber's transforming themselves into the dumb-bandwidth-pipe that customers want them to be: charge us for a set amount of bandwidth that we can use as fast or as slowly as we want, and renew when we've used that set amount. As it stands, Robber's isn't being clear, but I can't imagine they'd allow for roll-over bandwidth, but it seems clear that's the way to give customers the most flexibility.

But you'll still have to pay 3 for the data so what are you gaining?

Interesting that in the UK, Voda and Orange are both contracts (all be it 30 days) which therefore require credit checks whereas O2 is Pay & Go so much easier to activate/top up

But you'll still have to pay 3 for the data so what are you gaining?

At least it would be convenient to have them all on one contract.....I would not expect to buy different broadband connections at home if I had different computers......

What I want from O2 is the following.....

"Introducing O2's new Freedom tariff. One contract for all your surfing needs no matter where you are or what your doing. £35 per month for unlimited data at home or on the move".

You may notice this only saves £0.50 per month but I would buy just for the convenience....

Are you listening 02???????

Rogers has removed the $20 sharing plan and it's no longer showing up on Apples website.

LAME LAME LAME

Yeah they are and that's what we are paying for. I'd rather have the high prices then put up with the US carriers, they sound horrendous.

How so?

You have O2 forcing their subscribers to pay off the rest of their original 24 month 3G iphone contract in order to just upgrade to the 3GS iphone. You have a bunch of European carriers who give you something like 250 MB in iphone data allowance per month. You have a bunch of European carriers who crippled the 3G iphone speed down to 384 kbps when the user exceed certain data allowance or if they have a prepaid iphone.

So... Can I go to SoftBank in Japan and buy a prepaid sim for the iPad next week? That would be oh so nice.

Update:
The Japan - Softbank link just went dead...

If you think that is bad.. O2 is a Spanish company (Movistar) here in Spain I am paying

39.00 pounds (46 euros) Home broadband (10Megas)
12.90 (15 euros) OBLIGATED landline to have broadband at home even though I NEVER use it (do not even know the number) :D
39.00 pounds (46 euros) Max 3Gb iPhone data charge (tethering inc.)

And you can bet (when they publish there prices) it will be another 39.00 pounds for 3Gb iPad data plan!!! All this JUST for data as we do not have unlimited calls...So as the saying goes...THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE WORST OFF THAN YOU! :p

If you want sensible data plans, an end to sim locked devices and phones and the option to legally unlock existing devices, complain to the CRTC about these unfair business practices. Complaining on this board and doing nothing else about it will accomplish nothing. Complaining on this board and calling Rogers to chew out the poor CSR on the phone will accomplish nothing.

Go onto the site of your carrier, fill out their feedback form and also send your complaints to the CRTC about the "carrier". If you complain about Apple, they will send it back to you stating that they do not regulate Apple.

I've made my attempts to get through in the past but I'm only one person. There needs to be a large public outcry before things can change. I did get a call from the office of the president of Fido but imagine if thousands of people complained or even tens or thousands.

^ Hope they agree to let us share data between devices. Other than greed there is no logical reason why they wouldn't allow this. I pay for 6GB/month. Like others, I don't use even close to that much. I should have ever right to share that data between my devices. It's like your ISP saying you can only use your internet on 1 computer. Even if I do share the data, the chances of me going over 1GB/month is still unlikely, Rogers is still profiting. Hopefully when the iPhone HD (or whatever they call it) is released with its Micro-SIM. I can swap them to use the same data. Pain in the ass but better than paying double. And that $20 better have been a 1 time fee.

Its well known that the CRTC is in bed with Robelus...

UK carriers should consider a 500MB or less option that last a month.

In fact I like that O2 came out with a £10/1GB plan instead of a weekly, it make more sense and at the moment with this choice I would prefer it over Orange.

I want to see Vodafone now, they are the only one with the 7.2 instead of 3.6Mbps.

Perhaps O2 err on the side of caution but for a long time now I've been getting 5Mbps down and 1.5Mbps up on mobile broadband. Interestingly I bought the 7.2Mbps Voda service too but didn't get anywhere near the O2 speed. I guess it just depends on the area.
