Now the question of what I should buy. I want a laptop smaller than 15" that I can play games on. It will be a replacement for my 12" PowerBook that I just sold. Please put a GeForce 8400 in it Apple!

I think Steve pays someone lots of money to start these rumours, he'll be sitting at home reading these posts having a right laugh. :D

What if the name has a much more literal meaning than we think?

If the banners say "there's something in the air" then maybe apple is punning on something that is in the new macbook. Something we've never conceived

Actually, Apple already has used the words "Air" and "Mac" together in a product name.

In Japan, the "Airport Express" and "Airport Extreme" are actually called "AirMac Express" and "AirMac Extreme." That's because "Airport" is a trademark for wireless routers made by another (non-Apple) company.

My guess would be a new Apple TV or Movie rentals

There's been a lot of speculation about Apple going into the movie rental biz. It would make sense if they made it simple to get those rentals onto a TV. There's something in the air.

And The Winner is...

Macbook Airforce!

..or AirPower.

in that way the "air" doesn't sound like a sissy.

I don't think so

Count me as one who will not be surprised by a new thin flash-based Macbook. However, I will be shocked if "Macbook Air" is the name of any new machine.

I still maintain the something in the air theme refers to the increased market share of the Mac with any new machines and announcements designed to keep this momentum. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I could see iPhone type price cuts on consumer machines to try to grab even more new users this year.

Something is in the Air...

I'm hoping that this heralds the beginning of a new naming convention for the laptop models. Just as the OS's are named after big cats, maybe the laptops will follow big birds. They're in the air...

Should result in some amazing Native American-sounding names when tech support asks for people's platforms:

Eagle Running Leopard
Buzzard Updates With Panther
Albatross Dumps Cheetah
Vulture Stalls With Puma
Leopard flies on Condor
Crashing Tiger, Hidden Emu

-Oro

Fair cop mate.

Dongle days are over....... this would be a recipe for disaster. However, cool iPhone apps and update are definitely on the horizon.

You're right announcing a GPS dongle would be totally crap. Mind you could be that mobile triangulation software that the buzz has been about prior to this whole Mac Book Air thing. Really don't think MB Air is on the cards.

OK.

Steve Jobs has a daughter Lisa.
He also has a sister called Mona Simpson.
Mona Simpson is the name of Homer's mother.
Mona Simpson is married to a Simpson's script writer.

The new computer will be called either iBart, iMona, Air Simpson, MacHomer, or iMarge.:eek::(:):rolleyes::confused::mad::apple::D

Its kinda obvious when you see the connections, right?

Pentagon City

Well FWIW I was at :apple: store pentagon city earlier today, and there was a swarm of employees loitering around, and having some sort of discussion as-if maybe they had been reading macrumors or other sites. (the words MacBook Air did come out of on persons mouth) And one was using a pen as a microphone and they were sort of 'singing' the ABBA song Fernando...

"There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
Theres no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, fernando"

So - I think it is not just SJ who is laughing...

there's something in the air...

although i dont think people should take it literally to mean the very name of the product apple will reveal, i do think it is a big part of the keynote.

i think its soppose to represent the predominent "wireless" nature of the products they will be focusing on this year. that being the iphone + ipod touch with wireless capabilities, the appletv with its wireless capabilities to stream movies you have just rented from itunes and ofcourse their all new super portable laptop which i think will not only work wirelessly to get internet access, but will use wireless to primarily connect to peripherals as well.

im super excited however because i am really hoping that a new macbook pro is announced with a new design. now that there is anything wrong with the design of the current macbook pro- the powerbook won lots of awards for its design, i feel still that it is overdue for something new and i was dissapointed last year when it didnt happen. im hoping this year will be different.

This thread is freaking hilarious. It was just two years ago so many people here were bitching and moaning on how "lame" the MacBook Pro name was. Now I read messages on how MacBook and MacBook Pro name are "timeless" and such, but MacBook Air name is lame. And the little sheep goes "baaaa, baaaa, baaa" all day long.

I'm betting IF there is a MacBook Air in two year everyone here will thing it's a "timeless" name. All I know is its a hella lot better than "TZ Series," "Inspiron," "Pavillion" and the other truly lame names PC makers give their notebooks.

The i is way to overused, Mac is the most powerful sounding (besides Power of course) and air? Thats just a plain stupid name the more I think about it. Their creative team really needs to get to work if MacBook Air is a laptop name.

I think people are reading too much into the air thing, but anyways, i thought id share my thoughts.

The product Air is already associated with wireless connectivity in apple products. AirPort (Extreme and Express, both wireless routers) and AirTunes. The Air brand already has a product line of its own (albeit quite small). The only way I can see the Air branding being used if Apple made some sort of home server like device. A glorified AirPort Extreme if you like. Built in storage, suitable for TM backups, an iTunes server for all your macs and apple-TVs.

Anything with Mac in its product name is a Personal Computer. (Macbook, iMac, Mac Pro, Macbook Pro, Mac Mini)
Anything with X (as in EX, not roman numeral usage in OS 10) in its product name is Server based (XServe, XServeRAID, Xsan)
Anything with Air in its name is a wireless router of somekind.

Thats just my thoughts, and I have no evidence to back them up at all, so criticize away!
