The word "Air" in itself is catchy and somewhat mysterious. Apple Inc. wants to get away from describing it's computers as "computers" if you know what I mean. So if people directly referred to the ultra-thin laptop as "one of those cool Apple Airs" much like they do the iPod then the product would probably be more successful.

For sure we're going to see an Apple ultra-portable on Tuesday. If "Air" is indeed part of the name then I think it will have some interesting wireless attributes to go along with it's light weight.

Perhaps MacBook Aero?

I can't believe a company with Apple's savvy would pick a name as obtuse as MacBook Air. I'd bank on them using a slightly more hip sounding name like the MacBook Aero.

Just short for Airport?

This sounds like maybe a page 2 rumor. I know I used to give my computer host names of PowerBook and PowerBook Air depending on what network interface it was connecting through so I would have unique IP's through both on my school's network. Doesn't seem like a stretch that someone else out there would use the name "MacBookAir."

This is a rumor site after all, so it's interesting nonetheless.

To me though, if it's called "Air" I don't see it having a keyboard. I see an 8x10, half inch slab of glass and aluminum floating in the air. Picture an over sized iPod Touch. Beautiful.

MacBook Air like no more wire for network...

My guest is that if a MacBook is gona be called "Air", it won't have the Ethernet connector and be only wireless... We've seen before patents trying to find solution to the problem of the height of the ethernet connector (which can be to high for a slim notebook). But these solutions (like the rotating ports bay) could be to difficult or costly to implement. And they choose the more simple solution which is totaly remove the ethernet connector.

Another solution could be a ethernet port only available on a dock station (with the optical drive?)...

By all accounts, it seems that the next MacBook will be really thin...

I'm not sure that every MacBook models will have a Flash drive. But it seems that the aluminum case is a given...

MacBook Ayre

I think everyone is taking the banner too literally.

There will be no such thing as a MacBook Air.

I think that "something in the air" banner is referring to the Apple TV.

Last year was the year of the iPhone. This will be the year of the Apple TV.

Apple has already done so much with music, and movies are in a transitional and vulnerable moment (DVD to bluray adoption).

Something in the air refers to how Apple will takeover the movie industry by allowing downloads to transfer over the air to the Apple TV.

Especially if the rumors are true about movie studios finally allowing iTunes for download (which will then transfer over "the air" to the Apple TV).

The rumored MacBook will just be a "one more thing".

Music is where Apple makes money, so why not tackle movies?

It's been said before and I'll say it again, MacBook Air is just stupid. There's NO WAY Apple would ever release a computer and call it that. Seriously, think about it.. Apple isn't going to use Air to describe its lightweight when it could just as easily use mini or nano. It's been said before and I'll say it again. Just quit it with the 'MacBook Air' it's just such a bad name there's no way it could be real.

If MacBook Air turns out to be the real product's name I'm soooooo gonna quote you ;):D

Makes perfect sense to me, Apple did it with the iMac and a tablet with only 1 iPod like connector and everything else wireless seems the way to go.

"Something in the air" means something about wireless technology. Bluetooth, WIFI, IR, streaming data, etc.

Name wise, I vote for MacBook "Sparkle":D. "Air" is so passe.

Ok, umm it may seem slightly strange but I have a feeling that "MacBook Air" just might exist. Also, what the heck is a "Xtreme Mac"? There are some pics online of the black shrouded banners inside the moscone center with a banner above saying xtreme mac.
Can someone tell me what that is?

Why is everyone's argument based on a speculated name?

Has a "stupid" name ever stopped a company from making something?

Response.

You're right, Macbook Air sounds weak, and apple usually doesn't buy domain names, people know www.apple.com for everything. Lots of people will buy multiple domain names, take when the xbox 360 was coming, before they finally named it. So many different xbox related domains were bought (xbox 2, etc.) And I had a class purely on Adobe design in CS2. The teacher had purchased domains all the way to ps20. Because if they ever do make a PlayStation 20, and Sony wants the name, they have to purchase from him, and he can price it as expensive as he wants. So this may be just someone "planning ahead," the purchase of the domain doesn't tell us much. Additionally, Apple:apple: would be a little less obvious then "There's something in the air.." And name is Macbook Air. Steve and his team are pretty intelligent guys. But hey - don't fret over this too much. We only have 1 and 1/2 days until we know. I'm sure we can make it!

I don't give a crap what it's called, people will still buy it if it's what we want.
