(And if you have to make it different to separate "fun" comments from "serious" ones, why not make them green, or slightly smaller, or in a different font, or italicised, etc? Making them white just adds a hoop for the reader to jump through. Not much of one, I admit, but I prefer to read black on white, not white on light blue, whose contrast isn't optimal…)

Hmmmm, I'm sorry this bothers you so much. I'm not going to try to justify it. We just have ad hoc fun. As far as I know, no one sits down and writes out rules for the fun here before it starts. And most of the games get old fairly quickly anyway. That's just kind of the way the place is. And for all the complaints about MR being unwelcoming to new posters, tons of new people get help here every day, and our ranks don't seem to be shrinking. As I said before, I personally think you'll be happier here if you concentrate on how you can participate and spend less time worrying about what's awfully wrong with the place. But maybe you cannot. I don't know.

You've mangled my words again, I'm afraid. :)

I'm not unhappy with MR, nor worrying about it, it's a great forum and I love it, but I think this is a tad silly. Compared to the issues at most other fora I've been part of this is small, but it's niggled at me for a while. What I wanted to do was actually have a rational discussion about it so that I could get my head around it a little better, and that those who use it quite often can realise that, you know, it can get a teensy little bit annoying when used to extremes. :) And I don't think that it's unwelcoming, but I think it's just a bit rude, even though 99.99% of new users won't even see the masked white text. It's like being at a table eating dinner with six people who all speak English, but only speaking to the one other person who speaks French, in French. What if I started posting all my messages in French, claiming that it's just a fad? I think you'll see my point of view when I put it that way. :)

I recognise though that this is a genuine fad, but as nobody else has posted a thread in the Feedback section about it, I did. Simple as that. I don't like it, I think it's silly, but c'est la vie. I'll survive. :)

I was waiting for someone to mention this... but it doesn't bother me at all.

Occasionally, I do an 'Apple+A' to select the whole page to see what else may be there but surely it's not that important?

And no, I don't tend to use it myself... laziness, really.

BV, queen of the keybord shortcut! I never knew about that one, but then again, I don't really know any keyboard shortcuts (I'm one of those right-clicker's). ;) Good tip; thanks.

Anyway, I don't mind it either, those I agree it has become a lot more popular lately...

Wow, how many MR members "Command+A" everything when reading? I never thought to do that, and it isn't pleasing to my eye to read that way. Weird.

I thought black was the new white? behind again I see.

You could always set your highlight color to R=G=B=235, which is only slightly darker than the background here, but enough to show the white (or FAFAFA text) clearly.

Or the ten or so people who use it a lot could be nice to the rest of us and do it in a visible colour…

;)

White text is always fun to get in that extra little twist of the knife ...

;) Makes you a......groupie.

Well, in that case looks like I'll have to be a strict non-white texter...no more "fafafa" for me. ;)

....It sounds funny when you say "fafafa". Just thought I'd share.:)

A new fad could be to post in colors that spell words.

Such as "decade", "facade", "deface", or "faded".

Or "fad".

I seems that it will work with less than 6 characters as long as they are appropriate hexadecimal numbers.

It would be too time consuming to do so. :p :)

But there are so many words that could be used.

Of course, it does make it more of a mental challenge than simply using "white" or "FAFAFA". ;)

Some of us are already sufficiently mentally challenged, TYVM.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's really too bad. :p

Don't blame me for this group orgy of invisible spam ... at least I try to make sure mine is visible enough to insult as many people as possible. :p

Making it invisible is such a waste, unless these people are embarrassed at their one-liners.

After reading some of them, I can see why. :D

I hope you all feel guilty about causing carpal tunnel syndrome with all those annoying extra keystrokes to read your "funny" asides...

All the cool kids have carpal tunnel, didn't ya know?

I'll come down on thequicksilver's side. I find it a PITA to have to read with Command A selected or to have to look at a post and decide whether the empty rows are empty or have white text in them. At least if there's a smiley floating in midair, you have some idea of whether it's worth checking.

The jokes and asides can be funny but I suspect that they often are missed by those they're aimed at unless that person actually replies and quotes - thus spotting those lines.
