I turned 3D Touch off when I was using a 6s. The lack of consistency and unhelpful shortcuts it presented was just annoying.

Not worth the extra weight and thickness, with resulting smaller battery. If Apple hadn't done 3D Touch and released an iPhone 6s where the extra battery and thickness was all due to a beefier battery they might be selling more of them now.

A little miffed, but considering how much the talked about 3DT with iOS 9 and how little it ended up being used (by most users!) I'm not that worried.

Is everyone sure that some of those features are reserved for 3D touch? It honestly looked like most could be done with or without 3D touch.

I'm not so much miffed about 3DT, so much as some fonts/buttons just look way too big on the SE. Specifically the music app and the music on the lock screen.

A lot of 3D Touch features can be done without 3D Touch, but Apple needs to find some way to get people to upgrade. Very few features actually require a pressure sensitive screen. Most could be done by just long pressing.

I really meant that I did not get the impression those features were 3D touch exclusives. That most can and will work without 3D touch. Apple just was showing they also work with 3D touch. For example, I felt like the "clear all" option will be there without 3D touch.

The SE is not a flagship model. You want 3D Touch right now, buy one of the 6s models.

The SE is the latest, most powerful iPhone of all. It's as flagship as they come.

Apple has offered the SE as a bone to pick up those customers who refused to move to the larger size flagships.

I doubt Apple intends to do anything beyond that with the SE.

"Those customers who refused to move to the larger size" are the majority. Apple has offered the 6 and 6s as a bone for those customers who were on other operating systems and to appeal to the Asian market.

Apple was 'out of touch' with the 4-inch market and was caught unprepared for the level of demand for the SE. The 6 and 6s are mostly owned by iPhone newbies.

I tend to agree with that. I would be surprised if certain core features like this won't be there without 3D Touch.

Where I think 3D Touch is heading is the ability to do new things the iPhone doesn't currently do without it. In OSX, here are multiple ways to do the same thing, between menus, and mod-keys/mouse clicks. However in a touch environment, Apple is running out of gestures using the basic control surfaces. 3D Touch will be how Apple adds controls they can't add in traditional ways. At some point it will be like the tvOS, where to get to a control, I'll have to dig deep through menus to get to the control I need, which I have to do to some extent already, where a simple 3D Touch gesture will get me there in a couple of swipes. At some point the phone will doc so much that will be essential to the user. Right now, it's anything but.

I missed the part where Apple announced the SE was the flagship model instead of the 6s/6s+. I also missed the part where Apple mentions they are working on the SE to be the flagship model instead of the iPhone 7.

Where do I find those statements or hints?

I think we'll have to disagree here. Most of the people I know with a 6 series model came from the 4s or the 5, including people I work with. I myself came from the 5 and I won't go back.

You are qualifying this by stating "mostly newbies" but I have to disagree with this.

This is pretty much all incorrect. We don't know what the supply is for the SE, therefore we can't remotely determine the actual demand. The 4.7" and 5.5" are not just being bought by 'newbies'. Those were the options available if you wanted to have the 'latest and greatest' that Apple has to offer, both from a design and hardware standpoint. Most people who previously owned a 4" iPhone upgraded to those and adapted to the size. Dont' kid yourself into thinking that any majority of the user base still prefers the 4" model.

This coming from a very proud SE owner.

TBH android could do all of them without having 3d touch, hell even my nexus 5 could do it on MM...guess it is a way to force us upgrade

You're disagreeing with Apple which stated quite clearly when they released the SE that 60% of Apple's activated iPhone customer base had not upgraded to a 6 or 6s iPhone.

It is. I'd say 99% of this stuff could be easily achievable with long-press.

Really?

I was not aware of that. Thank you for pointing out the error of my statement (I don't like being wrong). Was this statement made yesterday? I didn't pay attention to the WWDC thing.
