Giving users more of an opportunity to control the look and feel of their personal iOS experience. Nice Apple. Seems like they're going all in on converting Android users to iOS. Deleting stock apps, Memories in the Photos app, individual app upgrades, etc. Pretty soon there's going to be little difference in the way each of the OS function. That's a good thing for people like me.

Game Center does still appear in settings, with configuration options. Maybe it's now just something developers can use internally...? Whatever the status of Game Center, Apple hasn't made an announcement -- statements that it's gone are just speculation.

I'm inclined to agree. I'm sure there was a mention of Game Centre for the other OS's during the keynote. I maybe wrong and they might have mentioned GameKit.

The lack of it in beta 1 doesn't necessarily mean its gone for good. Later betas may add it back in.

So instead of realizing that in 2016 flash memory is insanely cheap, Apple adds a "feature" to automatically delete stuff you haven't used in a while.

This feature will be helpful regardless of how much storage you have. I just had to delete a bunch of stuff off my 128GB phone last week to make room for some vids and pics I was taking.

blocking all of Orlando? anything to do with the recent news?

Not sure if you're joking or not, but it's just a coincidence. Stayed at a Hilton property there a number of years ago and get bombarded with "special offers of up to 80% off!" on a regular basis. At least once a day, some times more. They call from spoofed Orlando numbers (lucky for me, makes it easy). They do not conform to any kind of rules the FCC may lay out as they'll either curse at you and hang up or simply hang up and you'll get yet another call from them soon after.

I didn't really use the Game Center, other than a few games I play fairly often store my configuration and progress info there. I installed the beta as an update, and my settings, user data, and progress are still intact -- but it would disappointing if I did a 'setup as new' iPhone and installed those games and had to start all over again o_O

Yep, only the app is gone.

It's only been a few hours, but this is by far the most stable iOS beta Apple has ever released at WWDC, like by 100's of miles. I have yet to find any kind of glitch, lag or crash.

Similar experience here, as far as it being the most stable yet. I have had the springboard crash when using the app switcher, but it's only one crash so far, compared to it normally being barely usable.

So if you remove the stock Mail app, can you set a 3rd party as default?

Sorry if this has already been asked; if you remove the maps app and have Google maps installed, will this essentially make google maps the default mapping app?

If so, will this also let us use Google maps in CarPlay?

Unfortunately, it will still try to open the Apple Maps app and prompt you to re-download it. I'm hoping they'll let you set default apps in the future.

Another note, when I re-downloaded the Apple Maps app from the AppStore, it was instant. This leads me to believe that you don't actually delete the apps, just hide them. It was seriously instant; I tapped the cloud-like download button, and the 'open' button instantly appeared.

UPDATE: I can confirm that the app isn't actually deleted and is instead hidden. You can test this yourself by having the Maps AppStore page open, delete the Maps app, go back to the AppStore page and see the cloud-like download icon, turn on airplane mode, still able to download the app instantly

I suspected this would be the case.

It may not actually let you, but get to the point where you click the cloud-like button, but go into airplane mode before you do. If it "downloads" it then, you have your answer!

That's too bad. But thanks for clarifying this. Cheers.
