Another note, when I re-downloaded the Apple Maps app from the AppStore, it was instant. This leads me to believe that you don't actually delete the apps, just hide them. It was seriously instant; I tapped the cloud-like download button, and the 'open' button instantly appeared.

Two possibilities:

It simply hides the app icon... but the guts of it are still in the phone

or

The app itself is very tiny. It's basically a viewport to data that comes from the internet anyway... so there's not much of an app to download so it downloads fast.

I suspected this would be the case.

It may not actually let you, but get to the point where you click the cloud-like button, but go into airplane mode before you do. If it "downloads" it then, you have your answer!

Just tried this and can confirm it's just hidden and not deleted. Downloads just fine (and instantly) in airplane mode. Suspect it's the same with other default apps?

Safe to assume there will be hardware refresh across the board for iPhone Apple Watch and Macs?

Being able to delete default/built-in apps is a huge fail--this is a new low in the (brief) post-Jobs era. I've been a huge Apple fan since 1994 but I'm done.

Seems unless I'm missing something, Apple did not include Dark Mode like initially suspected. Furthermore, iMessage is not coming to Android, either. If someone knows more about this, feel free to chime in.

Okay, if the ability to remove a lot of bloated and unwanted stock apps is still present in the final release, that will be enough to make me upgrade. And thank goodness Game Center is gone too.

Still not happy, but if I can delete crappy bloated apps I don't use, that's a band aid anyway.

It's only been a few hours, but this is by far the most stable iOS beta Apple has ever released at WWDC, like by 100's of miles. I have yet to find any kind of glitch, lag or crash.

Following this thread :) Really interested to see how stable/battery-helping this first build truly is.

Can you remove NEWS? I can't and it doesn't appear to be removable in the image?

Apple today announced iOS 10, the next major version of its iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch software platform. The update is available in beta for Apple developers starting today, allowing early adopters to update and take a closer look at what's new. A public beta will be available in July, followed by an official launch in the fall.

iOS 10 includes a number of changes that Apple neglected to mention in greater detail on stage during its WWDC 2016 keynote, including a new Wake Alarm in the Clock app, individualized read receipts, a new option in the Music app to optimize storage, and many other features outlined below.

Remove Stock Apps

iOS-10-delete-stock-apps.jpg

iOS 10 enables users to remove the following built-in apps from the Home screen on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

o Calendar
o Compass
o Contacts
o FaceTime
o Find My Friends
o Home
o iBooks
o iCloud Drive
o iTunes Store
o Mail
o Maps
o Music
o News
o Notes
o Podcasts
o Reminders
o Stocks
o Tips
o Videos
o Voice Memos
o Watch app
o Weather
The apps are now available as standalone downloads on the App Store, meaning that Apple can issue updates for each app independent of iOS updates.

If you have an Apple Watch paired with your iPhone, removing an app from your Home screen also removes that app from your Apple Watch.

Removing apps can unsurprisingly impact related functionalities such as CarPlay and Notification Center widgets.

Wake Alarm

A new Bedtime tab has been added to the Clock app with a Wake Alarm function that can help you go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day. When enabled, the recurring wake-up alarm will remind you when it is time to sleep, track how many hours you slept, and provide detailed sleep analysis.

Individual Read Receipts

iOS-10-individual-read-receipts.jpg

Read receipts can be toggled on a per-person or per-conversation basis on iOS 10, rather than be simply turned on or off entirely.

Music Storage Optimization

New Keyboard Sound

Other Tidbits

o New wallpaper
o Game Center has been removed
o "Avoid Tolls" toggle in Apple Maps
o Control Center now supports 3D Touch
o Settings has new 3D Touch shortcut for Cellular Data
o Tweaked "back to" icon in Status Bar

[doublepost=1465864263][/doublepost]all i wanted was dark mode . where is my dark mode

It kinda sucks this is a 3D touch exclusive.

I can't remember where I read that they were planning on bringing many of these features to non-3D Touch enabled devices, which once could argue also sucks, a waste of effort working backwards ;)
