I'd love to see a link to a credible news source corroborating your assertion about the FBI running an ongoing porn site to trap random people who may wander by. Please post a link.

10 seconds of googling.

In February 2015, the Federal Bureau of Investigation launched an operation that was notable for two reasons: it was the largest known law enforcement hacking operation to date, and it entailed operating a child pornography website as a honeypot for 13 days.

Yeah, there are never any reasons for the government to need access. Certainly not thousands of children molested and their exploited photos traded around with pedophiles. There's no white collar crime or terrorism in the world. Yup, you've got it, there's never a good reason that they may need to access a device. Never.

I am willing to sacrifice thousands of children each year.
You have to remember that many of these children are quite small.

Which is why Apple's current stance is stupid.
It will force lawmakers to force Apple to introduce vulnerabilities.
You’re saying Apple should build in a vulnerability or be forced to do so? That’s the same thing and makes every iOS device vulnerable.

You’re not saying anything at all with this post.

I have two of the cheaper iPads that I use when I travel that I don't even access for weeks!
This might be a problem for me.

For GOD's sake why don't any of you ACTUALLY read the entire article!!!!
You can still access the iPhone/ipad during lockout...you just unlock it then you can use an accessory or cable to connect to a computer etc.

So care to elaborate at all?

Edit: saw that you did, thanks

I can say that they did nothing of the sort. What they posted is wrong and would not work actually.
They are known for pretending to be some great tech Guru who can break any code and crack any system. if that were true then they would not be on here with respect.
I have proven them wrong time and time again and am fed up with people like them.

How did you test work-around when the beta has only been out for a day?

Precisely..I have proven in the past that they are lying and full of how great they are and how they are forensic expert. When in truth they do not know the first thing.
They are full of it and it is an insult to those who do work in computers.

That... sounds like a problem.

They are wrong..plus the beta has not been out long enough for them to prove this.
They can not do any of what they claim.

I’m curious as to why you refer to that poster (who has been here for years) as “them”? Is that a gender inclusive term or are you hinting that you suspect that account is a long running sockpuppet?

Network time.

Could probably just turn off automatic time set.

"If your device still shows an incorrect date, time, or time zone,2 change each setting instead of using Set Automatically. For example, you might have iOS 9 or earlier and your country or region or government changes the time zone or the observance of Daylight Saving Time (DST). If so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time.
  2. Turn off Set Automatically."

And how do you do this without unlocking?

You might be able to set up a MITM NTP server that feeds the wrong time (off by several days), but smart NTP clients won't actually accept such a lie, so this probably wouldn't work.

After reading all the comments... WHAT SORT OF STUFF ARE YOU ALL HIDING IN YOUR PHONES?

What are you so scared of?

I'm not scared of what people will find on my phone but I deal with PHI/HIPAA information as well as a number of confidential matters. Other people should not have access to that information - even law enforcement without court orders. Even then, some of the information I deal with is protected and cannot be discovered by legal procedures or used in legal cases. This means because of my (maybe somewhat rare situation), there is a lot of information on my phone that legal entities have no right to even with a court order. Whatever can be done to increase security is great for me.

This is a pretty creative solution to the problem, I like it. 7 days is probably too long, but that can always change.

It’s not a matter of being scared. It’s a matter of having a lot of highly sensitive information on the iPhone.

I welcome extra layers of security even if they are a pain in the butt sometimes.

I'd say it's a moot point if a person uses a 10 digit alphanumeric password.
How about those of us with a 30 digit alphanumeric password?

Won't someone think of the children?!?!

Take off the tinfoil hat. The government doesn't care about you. They don't care what's on your phone. You're a nobody as far as they're concerned. Unless you're trading child porn, selling secrets, committing acts of terrorism, or other crimes, they don't care.

But you'd rather let all pedophiles run free and abuse children. You sound like a great human.

Or engaging in consensual sex with an adult who happens to get paid. Or smoking pot. Or trading cryptocurrency. Or connected on a social network to someone who is connected to someone who is connected to someone who is connected to someone who has done any of these things. Or living next to someone who is cooking meth and, whoops, we conducted a no-knock raid on the wrong house, shot your dog, and freaked out your kids. Or you you happen to be a civil rights leader. Or you're running for political office.

Both other than that, the government would never spy on you.

...

You might add supporting someone they don't care for.

As far as "other crimes" you might read the book "Three Felonies A Day" - the author (and Alan Dershowitz wrote the intro) contend the average person commits three Federal felonies a day. Even if that is off by a factor of 1000, that is still 1 per year. So if you are in a group that the current people in power don't like and they target you, the odds are they could probably get you for somewhere between 5 and 5000 felonies depending on the likelihood and the statute of limitations.

Think about the Obama/Clinton/Trump DOJ and FBI going after you because you voted for the other gal/guy or were an active supporter of the other guy, knowing that the average is 3 per day. Even 3 per week, month or year is bad enough!

With the voluminous Federal code, thinking along the lines of "I didn't commit a crime" is naive. (As an "Older School Mac guy" - 128k Mac was our first Mac (after an Apple ][), I'd be interested in hearing more details about the rollback, btw.

I'm scared that my phone gets stolen and somebody gets access to photos of my baby daughter, my passwords (including my bank accounts), my private communications, my work, my routines, my signature on documents, my citizen's card number, know where I live, use stuff taken out of context against me,... Shall I go on?

Am I not allowed to keep my and my family's private life private? Not everyone likes to expose their life on to others. I certainly don't.

"Judge, I did sell cocaine, however for an insignificant amount of time and without contributing to the black market"

That's not going over well in court.

o_O

That reminds me of the "parallel construction" BS that was first reported in 2013. It amounted to the Federal government and agents committing perjury in order to mislead the courts and defense attorneys about how an investigation was started because it was started illegally.

Power is abused. Everyone should take steps to protect themselves from the (not at all benevolent) people who seek the power to rule. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
