11.4 is now installing on my iPhone 7. I looked a couple of minutes before 12:00 CDT and still no update, but a couple of minutes after 12:00 CDT and it arrived. The text with it does say "...and Messages in iCloud." It states "Airplay 2 multi-room audio, support for HomePod stereo pairs, and Messages in iCloud."

BTW, does Messages in iCloud mean that my inbox on all my iThingies will now be coordinated/synced? I get really tired of having to delete old messages and threads from each device separately. I also have been frustrated with Messages failing on my MacBook Pro.

Apple really needs to get better programming managers and clean up all the garbage in their code. They need to stop emphasizing the hardware sexiness and concentrate on practicality and great code.

I think that's not correct the benefit you list as one can already do that with Airport 1 to an Airport Express. An iPhone App you just change output to be Airport Express or Apple TV and same on a Macbook.

Yes, you can currently AirPlay to a single destination from an Apple device. And you can AirPlay to multiple speakers from iTunes on a computer.
AirPlay 2 promises to allow playback to multiple speakers -- in sync with one another -- from an iPhone, iPad, HomePod, Mac, or AppleTV. This is the "Sonos-like" functionality that I've personally been craving and hope works as smoothly as I know Sonos does. And I won't bag on Sonos; I find their products to be great-sounding and high quality. I just prefer the Apple ecosystem.

Strange that a computer can output to two speakers at same time using Airplay 1, but other devices require the new protocol. Guess the computer can setup a multiple output network streams and iOS devices can't?

I'll bag on Sonos. Their sound quality is poor and what are they doing with optical only in 2018 plus many current home theater standards not supported. Also Alexa on the Sonos One sucks. I dumped my Sonos One's and Play 5 for the HomePod. The HomePod sounds better than a Play 5 and is quite a bit cheaper and much more sophisticated.

Hi Apple, welcome to 2015.

Compared to what.

Tim Cook’s bad leadership, Apple’s failure to innovate, the “Steve Jobs would never let this happen” dead horse beating. Take your pick. The visitors to these forums dedicated to Apple fandom are complicated creatures indeed.

Heh. Cooks sales and profits far exceed anything in Apple's history. But yeah whiners abound.

11.4 installed on my iPhone 7 now. I see a Text Message Forwarding option now in Settings-->Messages. Don't know if this is new, but I don't see this option on my other iOS 11.3.x devices. It allows me to select my other iOS devices and Macs.

Not new :)

I updated my iPhone X. I'm not at home right now, and I don't see my Airport Express or AppleTVs listed in my Home app.

I also see the option of iCloud-->Apps Using iCloud-->Messages on my iPhone 7 running iOS 11.4. This option is not available on my iOS 11.3.x devices. I'm currently installing 11.4 on one of my iPads. After it installs I'll verify if this option is new.

That has always been an option for me with messages going to my MacBook Pro as well.
