Finally, double tap for Airpods is working. go to General>Bluetooth> Airpods info> and bam change the settings. double tap to change tracks instead of siri.
I read what you wrote, tried it out and found the new option isn't ready for prime time on my iPhone 6S+ and rMBP. On the former, I had no sound in the buds and the connection kept dropping. On the Mac, also no sound and dropped connections plus borked iTunes. I could hear electrical "ticking" very faintly, and didn't want to bork the Pods.

I tried "Siri" with the right Pod and "Pause/Play" with the left Pod, tried no other combinations.

Finally got the Pods working again after removing them from both devices, rebooting my iPhone and repairing it with the Pods. My experience was "hell no!" but YMMV. I'm holding off on trying this again or after a FW update comes out for the Pods. Cheers, and thanks for the tip!

It appears that I have an issue where the bluetooth connection icon is illuminated, i.e. it's connected to something - but it isn't. It used to be gray when it was on but not connected. Anyone else having this problem?

and yet you can't swipe on a notification to open to the app? literally the worst thing on the planet

You can tap on a notification to open the app. To do this though you need to go to setting and turn off ‘rest finger to unlock’ accessibility>home button>rest finger to unlock.

Once you do that you can rest you finger to unlock access to the apps without jumping to the home screen. Previously I would waise to wake and tap on a notification and nothing would happen, so I would rest on Touch ID to gain access but it would just take me straight to the home screen. It was really annoying. Perhaps adjusting the settings will help you.
