Ok. Fair enough. But what about when iOS is on, the phone is being used, and iOS is ALL white?
I much rather prefer a white on white surface when I am actually USING my phone than how it looks when the screen is off.

Because black bezel....hides the bezel. When the bezel is black, it makes it feel like you're holding just the content.

We all know no one is going for the white one, the "cut out" looks like someone put 4 holes there. Imagine having the phone turned off? Ha scary! & ugly!

Im going for the black one, anyone knows if it will be like the jet black one? Ima have to buy a case then..

It'll be all glass, so much more scratch resistant than polished aluminum. TBH, I wish Apple went all in with ceramic, but I know that would be difficult to manufacturer at the scale Apple needs.

Hands up who can remember when Apple championed ergonomics and ease of use over their unnecessarily complicated competition? Let's hope this isn't true. Or it could be one step backwards too far this time. Not everybody is a geek ... people who bought the iphone were anything but. Apple used to pride themselves in being different to their rivals. Now the vision is dissipating and complexity is being introduced to distract from innovation. Or rather... the lack of it.

Yes I like my home button and I hate gesture controls never can remember them all, not simple blah if this is remotely true then another of several dealbreakers for me. I like my 7 Plus for size (8 is not much bigger than 7-7s). I do not like the charger concept either, really like speed and staying connected of lighting connector, my Apple Watch gets knocked of the magnetic charger too easily sometimes and I have no use for this on my iPhone -- plus have so many lightning connectors and such now that I just am not ready to move, don't like the rounded OLED screen too easy to hit like it is on my friends Samsung, I like fingerprint Apple Pay works very well for me -- not facial recognition yuck, so anythings that if even remotely true means I am staying with my 7plus and we will see what transpires next year with the 9 series whether I stop updating my iPhones and stick with what I like...

Yeah, I'm baffled by people saying the don't notice the glare ???

I understand them saying that they don't notice the color distortion at the edges since it's noticeable on light backgrounds only (though once you see it it can't be unseen) but there's no missing the glare created by the curved edges. It's atrocious.

Looking at my S8+ right now. With the screen off, I see the glare, but don't really notice it. With the screen on, I don't see any glare. While the specifics of the lighting of where I am right now may make a difference, I can say I have never once had an issue where glare from the curved edges has drawn my attention, much less been a problem, when using the phone.

The problem with gestures is that they not intuitive for many people. I use them all the time. But my parents? When they’re baffled by their iOS device, there’s always that one button they can hit. Now, when they’re stuck, the solution will be to swipe a finger up from the bottom. And why are they supposed to think of that? There’s no cue that this is an available action. You have to already know about it.

I have never liked most gestures on apple devices and seldom use most of them let alone remember them, other than pinch and expand on MacOS or iOS and a couple other things on iPhone (swipe up to see the control panel -- Like that) and down to see notifications again. Rest I largely do not use and not too excited for this either

Yep.

I was in a apple store and a woman was getting her mac mini worked at at the genius bar. She got a text on her phone with two-factor alert. She kept trying to press the alert to open it...

Noooooo, you're supposed to SLIIIIIIDE it. It was then and there when I realized that iOS is not designed for simplicity anymore.

I agree with your post. "Let's kill the home button to make it more complicated for everyone." - un-challenged software engineers. You need a visionary to lead, and a person willing to challenge ideas.

Someone should make the "simple" phone again.

And at that keynote, the CEO should get up there and say, "all that confusing interface, and sliding, and you never know WHAT to do with it! YUCK!"

yes completely agree, most like my wife just want it to be simple they are not geeks like most of us here who are willing (even if you hate gestures like me LOL) to try stuff. It seems we have little vision left to make it just easy to use -- on all the apple devices as far as I am concerned. I do not like even if 75% of rumors are true much of what is supposed to be unique to the 8 so I will wait this one out unless some major highly useful feature is offered. Plus it looks more of the smaller size and I really like my 7 plus ;-)

So they ripped of BlackBerry who ripped of Nokia who ripped off Palm. Revolution is coming!

Since the 6s I’ve used raise to wake to wake the phone. Became second nature to use instead of the home button. Do you have one of the newer iPhones currently?

Like you I also use the wake to raise but then my fingerprint to open the phone and really like that -- besides using Apple Pay at my local vendors of choice so the change -- if really remotely true is not for me yet... ;-)

Apple have always loved gestures and intuitive interface over cluttering the UI with button/ This is just the logical next step. The home button was the best thing to use for app switcher/home so giving people lots of alternatives to do the same is very un-apple. Getting rid of the home button means that you just have to learn a very simple new way of doing it.

The only thing that I wonder about is siri. Very few people like using 'hey siri" as far as I can tell so I wonder how apple will allow us to active it without the home button.

They will replace the home button with an always on display and a swipe up to unlock or something like that, pressing the home button to get to the home screen would be replaced with a gesture of some sort but I wonder how siri will be triggered. Should be exciting to see how Apple handles all this.
I'm curious about this as well. When I drive, I keep my phone in my pocket for safety. I can feel and use the home button to activate Siri to send/read messages over bluetooth so I don't have to take my eyes off the road. If the home button goes away, I hope there is a good replacement option for this. Facial recognition won't work, and Hey Siri can't hear me. My car's bluetooth button activates BlueLink by default, so Siri has to be summoned by the phone. Here's to hoping I don't have to buy a thousand dollar phone as well as a new car stereo with Car Play!

So wait, no Matte Black ? Would Apple release a Matte Black ?

This might sound pedantic but if Apple uses stainless steel edges then this won't be a buy for me. The old iPods and the recent Apple watches show that the scratches this material picks up is beyond ridiculous and after a few weeks, look awful. The iPods proved that even in a case, they still scratch. No thank you...

A major issue for me a mostly glass iPhone again not liking. I like my solid aluminum framed 7Plus and the 7sPlus not much exciting to me either so will stick with my plus -- lots of screen for me like my mini iPad almost that works great for me

Apps like Instagram will release a "dark mode". Shh about it though.

It's not, though. It's actually convenient.

To have to use two different swipe-up "speeds" to trigger Control Center vs. Multitasking/Home? You will forgive me if I am not optimistic about how well/consistently this would work... and it is certainly not as convenient as a dedicated Home button!

You say “holding just the content”. Seriously? Do you really believe this:

Blends more with iOS than this:

Really?

So the iPhone will basically work the same way as WebOS did originally nearly 9 years ago
WebOs was well ahead of it's time:

I was just thinking about the Palm Pre and WebOS yesterday and lamenting it's pioneering tech not going anywhere despite being purchased. Didn't expect it to end up in an iPhone of all places. Thanks for recognizing that. I hope others do to.

I'll comment when I see the actual device and not the random rumors. I still think Apple puts out rumors just confuse everyone.

BlackBerry Tried that with their BB10 devices and it was painful to use. I really hope apple dont go that route. Multigesture to close apps or open the device might work great when there is no other buttons on screen to accidentaly trigger if the motion is not tracked or done properly (happens more often than one would think). It is the most annoying feature about my Q10 work phone.
