I’m wondering. In iOS 11, when you double click to the app switcher, the windows are now taller and skinnier than they were in iOS previously. I wonder if this is a sign of the iPhone 8 (or whatever) moving to a display ratio like that of the Samsung S8, or if its simply aesthetic. Looks good either way!

Complaining about Apple fixing the ridiculous, spindly fonts that impede mobile use? Come on! Fixing the font is a surprising and sadly rare admission of failure from a company that has largely given up on doing design work. Any discerning user scorned Apple's "more car-friendly OS" that switched to a spidery, wispy font that was far LESS legible, especially in a car environment.

Why not complain about the glaring functional defects that degrade the usefulness of the iPhone? Like this inexcusable one: http://goldmanosi.blogspot.com/2012/06/will-apple-ever-fix-iphones-biggest.html

Or how about this one, which sets you up to miss flights, meetings, and any other appointments: http://goldmanosi.blogspot.com/2016/03/apples-idiotic-time-zone-support-sets.html

A not so subtle rebranding to say "hey, we're back and making an impression!". First time in years that I'm even a little excited after an Apple announcement. FINALLY a lot of updates. Most of which should have been done years ago.

Software, hardware AND attitude.

Where are all the "doomed, doomed, doomed" nahsayers now? What are they going to whinge about? There seems to be something for almost everybody this year.

As one of the frequent "whiners", you're welcome. It's no coincidence that Apple delivered these offerings and enhancements. If not for those of us who hold Apple to a higher standard, they would rest on their laurels without their demanding founder to set the bar. As you noted, most of these offerings were long overdue. Complacency and patience never motivates businesses to improve their products.

The dialer just keeps getting more and more plain. It looks like an alpha version of it that took all of 5 minutes to put together.

Remember when it was sleek with translucent effects?

R.I.P iOS Signal dots

(2013-2017)
Good riddance. When the whole mobile industry was using signal bars since GSM days, Apple had to do the dots from iOS7. It took up more space and is confusing to most non-iPhone users. I'm glad they are going back to the bars.

As for the control center, it looks like a hot mess, but that's because they didn't customize it to look better. Yes, you can finally customize the control center just like Android!

Only thing I don't understand is this:

I use iCloud Backups so when I get a new iPhone I just select "restore from iCloud backup".
How is this different?
Does it just let you transfer everything over without needing iCloud?

Finally! :D

Most likely it works the same as setting up an Apple TV via Bluetooth. With iCloud backup you still have to sign into your iCloud account before you can set up from iCloud backup. This method skips those steps.

The iOS 11 updates are fantastic. They did things I hoped for (drag and drop, better Control Center) and things I never saw coming (Files - depending on how it is implemented, selection of multiple app icons at the same time). Great WWDC. I'm still processing everything.

I can't believe how much Apple through at us today. Pleasantly surprised with all the hardware and software features. I think this is going to correlate nicely with the iPhone 8 this fall. I really want experiment with the new control center. It looks entirely different from when I was expecting.

Yep! Hardware-wise, totally loving how they are now supporting eGPUs and the iMac Pro is a beast. And this is from someone who generally doesn't like All-in-Ones.

Software-wise, iOS made the iPad line become an even more viable "my only computer" device for many more people. And I can't wait to see what companies like Industrial Light & Magic comes out with.

Seeing the phone and it's Machine Learning map out the table's edges such that the characters jumped out into the void at the appropriate places during the AR presentation...wow!

Great event

Control centre wise I like the fact it's all in one place and you can remove and add things in there.

It basically means you can transfer important bit (wifi passwords etc) but doesnt transfer all the apps and junk. Basically means you can 'start a new phone' app wise, but have all your passwords.

The UI for the new control center looks like a mess, but at least its customized. And still no dark mode option.

The lock screen and calculator have a new look, but no screenshots of either?

The one handed keyboard is a game changer. It's hard to type 1 handed, even on my regular 7. I already planned on getting a Plus for my next iPhone this fall, but now it's going to be even sweeter.

The control centre looks ugly but the fact that it can be customised makes up for that. I'm really looking forward to this.
