flick and gesture typing would have made the keyboard so much better. Here's praying that we'll see it with some of the betas before the fall

WTF Apple ? Lockscreen or Photos app?

The iOS 11 updates are fantastic. They did things I hoped for (drag and drop, better Control Center) and things I never saw coming (Files - depending on how it is implemented, selection of multiple app icons at the same time). Great WWDC. I'm still processing everything.
i think im gonna throw up

Does the Offload Unused Apps feature leave the apps' icon on the springboard? That would be fantastic if it just downloaded it on demand.

If it only leaves the data in place and the only indication of that is in the settings it would be far more annoying than useful.

Can iPhone 5 user use it?
Need to know before committing to customers who are looking for iOS, iphone app development companies
I have an iPhone 5 that I've been using for beta testing. And it seems that the 5S or later is required for iOS 11.

See https://www.apple.com/ios/ios-11-preview/ and scroll all the way to the bottom.

Those side keyboards might actually make the iPhone Plus almost usable for me, lol. Almost. Luckily the iPhone Pro/Edition/8/whatever will only be slightly wider, but even so this side keyboard might get some use.

The thing I'm most excited about overall is the redesigned iPad interface. It looks so much faster to move around now. I feel like the iPad is finally starting to come into it's own, distinct from the iPhone. Being able to work with files like this will make it much more feasible to work on larger design projects and possibly even websites. Does anyone know if multitasking apps can watch files generated by another app for changes and process them? I'd love to see a version of CodeKit for iPad that I could run alongside Coda 2 that could watch my web project folder and compile my SCSS changes for publishing (we've got a weird server setup at work and they won't allow me to run a compiler server side for whatever reason that I can't remember). It would be acceptable to do split screen for this to happen, but I hope in the future Apple will allow background utilities to run at set intervals on the iPad. Even if it's just one or two utilities at a time, it would make it a lot more useful.

As for the iPhone, I'm most excited about the new Control Center and the customization. I'm rather surprised you can't reorganize sections as it appears to be modular. I'm also looking forward to the new AirPod settings, as I'd love to set my left ear to pause and right ear to skip. I hope in the future they add a triple tap option.

I'd like to be able to plug in my iPad into my computer and use it as a second screen. Preferably with touch & Apple Pencil input. I'm getting into photography, so I'd like using a stylus on screen. Plus, I just like to doodle.

Give Duet Display a try. It definitely can be used as a second screen and my understanding is it'll do just what you're asking (I don't have an iPad Pro to try it with)

Why, is giving praise where's it due a terrible thing? Is enthusiasm to be sneered? Apple really delivered yesterday and I'm thrilled with some of the upgrades, both hardware and software. Are you really that cynical or immature!
I will praise Apple when praise is due. Same UI for 4 OS iterations? iOS 11 should've been 10.3 thats how little they changed. As far as hardware updates, those will be obsolete by fall.

Use Duet Display app as second display, or Astropad as second display and drawing tablets. I hav iPad pro and both of them are awesome and do exactly what you are asking for.

Arguably same UI for 11 OS iterations. Plenty seems to be changed under the hood, for better or worse. I'm pretty excited for the changes 11 is bringing to the iPad in particular. Any way to make it easier for me to bring fewer devices when I travel. I'm trying not to get mad about anything I haven't actually experienced in person.

JUST CONFIRMED: setting AirPods left/right pod control transfers over to other non-iOS 11 devices!

Set up the controls on an iPad mini 4 running iOS 11, and the controls transferred over to my iPhone SE Running iOS 10. Moreover, it remains after disconnecting by placing the AirPods into the case, and still works when listening to iPhone music via Apple Watch. AND IT STILL WORKS WHEN LISTENING TO MUSIC ONLY FROM THE WATCH!

YES! Shout it from the rooftops!

One sided keyboard looks like to ok, so is using keyboard to type instead of speak to siri as the only option. (I guess that is for those NOT in a hurry). :D

Offload apps seems good, but keeping an eye on your home screen just got more important now. Good for the "Try" and prevent cross-site tracking..

Apple is honest there :D Does it really say Try?

"Things iOS should have done at least 2 versions ago" for $600, Alex.

I wouldn't say Apple is back... far too many things still need work. However it does look like something finally woke them up a bit.

For the love of all that’s Holy! give me the regular keyboard back. How the F**** do I make a comma?

I'm interested to know whether you can choose to "Auto delete old conversations" from the iPhone but still have them on Mac/iCloud.

No kidding. It's amazing how quick and accepted it is to criticize, even when the criticism might not be warranted, and yet when there's praise people don't want to see it. Are we really coming down to the point where praise, even well deserved, is scoffed at because it somehow offends?

//no, I'm not new to the internet, all evidence to the contrary...

So they have "Type to Siri", but they still kept Spotlight and "Type to Siri" as 2 separate type-to-search user interfaces? Weird.

Edit: somebody with access to the dev preview care to compare results of "Type to Siri" with regular Spotlight search? Are the two completely unified or giving different results?

This is perfectly logical. Think about it:

As I understand it, "conversations" with Siri will probably persist to an extent, like text messages, so you can refer back to them. You wouldn't want every Google or Spotlight search's results cluttering that conversation thread. So they're separate. Think of Siri as a "person." Just like in Messages. That's different from doing a run-of-the-mill search.

"Type to Siri" is that new? surely not.
when siri was first released typing to siri was the only reliable way of communicating with it. voice recognition was and remains so poor.

oh, and OS11? was 10.4 not good enough?

Honestly, the only thing I want in Control Center is Now Playing. Will that be possible?

What does the calculator look like ?
Still using every single digit, 1 through 9 (including 0!).

Yeah, but to provide a cleaner, less cluttered interface, only 1 through 5 are visible by default. If you "press and hold" on 1 through 5, they turn into 6 through 0 after displaying a brief animation.

Also, to use the operators and other keys (+, -, x, /, =, ., etc.), you must be in landscape mode, where you will be able to half-press the invisible operator widget. (The invisible operator widget is not available in portrait mode.)

For extra convenience, if you are in portrait mode or take too long to find the operator widget, iOS 11's highly touted Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities automatically will guess whether you want to add, subtract, multiply, or divide, delighting you with an experience that builds on Apple's already impressive text auto-correction features.
