Now why did you think that? Did you study FCC filings or did you randomly think Apple just threw a design at the wall carelessly?

You make it sound like they havent done so in the past

I read the story about the lab results from the FCC filing

LTE and Call faliure still there, must be hardware great
Damn that was fast to know it didn’t work. Have to say here in uk 4G and no dropped calls on 12.0 so can’t say if this was fixed or not. Camera looks better in selfie mode though.

WiFi throughput and speed seems noticeably improved - but my results are hardly scientific (I do not have screenshots). LTE improved as well. Not going to 1 bar like I used to. Having max bars like I had with my 8+, 6s+, and 6+.

Not sure what other XS Max owners are talking about, it's very noticeable on my phone. Verizon.

Worked for me, last day of return period as well. Was getting 1 to 2mbps 4G dl speeds indoors, now it’s closer to 50 lol

I can’t wait to see Phil Schiller stand on stage next year and proudly proclaim that the new Apple custom-designed modems that are likely to be in next year’s iPhones are the “best modems ever put into any phone.” I suspect Apple can’t wait to be done with Intel’s modems. Similar to the Apple Maps debacle, it seems they went with an inferior product this year that sacrificed customer experience in some cases in order to get away from their dependence upon an arch nemesis.
The minor and isolated connectivity issues are not even close to a "debacle."

We see no evidence of widespread complaining besides a couple threads on forums. If this were major, we wouldn't have stopped hearing about it.

Stopped into my store on the way home to get my XS checked out and there were 3 people there who were complaining about connection issues.

I definitely have improvement on Verizon with my iPhone Xs Max. I never had any problems with connectivity like everybody was talking about on this website, but I did notice in one location I only had a 1 bar (on a good day) everytime I was there. Now I have a solid 2 bars.

Post 12.1 crisis . "UglyGate" . . lol
It is! Looks like its a hardware issue. Im still having same problem.
[doublepost=1540931205][/doublepost]I used to get 3-4 bars of 4G signal at home. I only get 1-2 bars after upgrading to XS Max. It took me 40 minutes to download iOS on this phone compare to 15 minutes on my 7 Plus.

How is that not anecdotal? Apple has probably already sold 20-30M of the XS devices. If this were a huge issue, it would be a tsunami of complaints, daily. It would never stop.

It's either limited to certain locations, situations, batch of iPhones, or all 3. It simply CAN'T be a hardware/design issue, period.

You know, I have been having occasional issues with my phone randomly losing network connectivity when on LTE... and it probably started around the time iOS 12 dropped. Hadn't put that together until now. Hopefully this fix addresses that.

I have been having those problems with my 7+ since I upgraded to iOS 12 as well. Thanks for mentioning this, I was watching the connectivity since this happens 1-2 a week while at work. I’ll wait a few days to upgrade though.

In my apartment it’s hard to tell since I keep WiFi calling on. When I’m out in public when I had my X now max it’s fine only had one issue that was at a banquet when I wanted to throw my max against the ground!! In my apartment I average two bars sometimes three on average. I should shut off WiFi calling see if it changes and this is with T-Mobile.

Here is my experience with 12.1 on my AT&T Xs

First:what seems same (with 12.1) is WIFI, my phone drops to 2.4ghz when too far away from 5ghz but keeps on if I stay at or near house, but when I leave home and later return it can only grab and find 5 ghz when I manually reconnect. That has been the case since before Xs and X

Second: Whats improved with cell with Xs on 12.1

1): consistent 2 bars (with some 1 bars at far end of house away from tower direction) and now occasionally 3 bars vs mostly 1 bar and occasionally 2 bars (I know not quantitative) on 12.0 and 12.0.1 on my Xs
2): 12.1 I am getting 22-25 mb download on 2 bars at house and uploads of about 5-8 mb. On 12.0 and 12.01 I averaged 8-12 mb downloads typically well under 10 mb

WiFi throughput and speed seems noticeably improved - but my results are hardly scientific (I do not have screenshots). LTE improved as well. Not going to 1 bar like I used to. Having max bars like I had with my 8+, 6s+, and 6+.

I am getting similar results with LTE improvement on my Xs

Similar improvements in the weak AT&T area at house before getting mostly 1 to sometimes 2 bars and downloads of 10 mbs or less, now getting mostly 2 bars sometimes even three (rarely 1 bar) and downloads of 22-25 mbs

LTE problems continue on IPhone XS MAX

Seeing 320 Mbps down / 20 Mbps up on WiFi (basically the maximum potential of my service)
Seeing ~93 Mbps down and / ~40 Mbps up for LTE here in Canada.

According to the telus map, for my area of the city, I'm in a "super fast" zone - but I have no idea what the height of my apartment plus angle (I can see the repeaters in my area, I'm facing away from all of them) and the composition of the glass in my apartment's windows can do to the network speed.

1. Network speeds will vary with location, signal and customer device. Compatible device required. Manufacturer’s rated peak download speeds: LTE Advanced, up to 225 Mbps; LTE, up to 110 Mbps; HSPA+, up to 42 Mbps. Average expected speeds: LTE Advanced, 12-65 Mbps; LTE, 12-45Mpbs; HSPA+, 4-14 Mbps.

I'm using Apple's basic silicone case.

WiFi is basically no change from previous while LTE is roughly double.

On a 512 GB Max. This is in my 23rd story apartment and my basis for comparing speeds. "In the wild" I don't pay that much attention - only care and test while in my office at work or my home office.

Hi folks,

I posted this in another thread, but it's applicable here as well. If you're having LTE connection issues, call Apple, and open up a case.

For those of you having connection issues, I highly, highly recommend doing what jkozlow3 suggests: call 800-MY-IPHONE, and open up a case. I just did, and it took about ten minutes.

After speaking to the initial support person, he routed me to the Senior Engineering team, who have a team of folks looking at this particular issue. I was asked to install two loggers on my phone (which took about a minute in total to do) and I've been asked to take three Speedtest screenshots tomorrow, along with one of my results page. Apple will be collecting data in the background in the meantime.
The more of us that do this, and the more data that Apple can log, the better.

I wholeheartedly recommend this. I was one of the early adopters of Apple's, then, brand new Intel laptops - top of the line. The issues I had were, infamously, heat and an awful whine that sounded like a bumble bee on meth.

I worked with Apple after there was enough public outcry. I found their support team (through the 800#) helpful and caring. It resulted in a new logic board for my laptop, problems were resolved, and I ended up selling that laptop (years later) for an amazing value. Yeah, it's some time on the phone and so on, but as early adopters (does anyone, these days, believe any initial release by any manufacturer will be without some bugs - including noticeable bugs?) it's a bit par for the course. If you want stable, change your upgrade cycle to ~6 months post-release. Headaches gone.
