The 1Password integration will be good as will be the duplicated password warning. Nice to see useful yet subtle features that will aid security. Also improved pasting of passwords into Apps will certainly help, I find it a pain to have to go and look the password up then go into the app especially where the password is a random one.

Siri can access passwords? Not sure how that’s going to work. My passwords are complex enough that even if Siri can shout them out, I won’t be able to remember them.

Maybe she can stick the password in the clipboard and clear it once you’ve pasted it? Or they’ll introduce a one-time-password-paste feature for those frustrating apps that don’t support iCloud Keychain?

Is there any documentation about the 'Experimental WebKit Features'? I'm interested whether this might include notifications using service workers for example.

There was talk about the photos app and a new way of sharing, using iMessage. Does this mean that shared photo streams are gone? I use multiple shared photo streams and wouldn’t want that to be removed. Sending messages via inessage isn’t nearly as good.

- iPad Menu Bar - The menu bar at the top of the iPad has been redesigned, and it looks like Apple is making room for a notch that will be included on upcoming iPad Pro models that will feature Face ID.

Notch on an iPad? That would be ridiculous. Considering the screen size, they could easily make an even elegant black border all around it? Besides, what will happen if that iPad is in a portrait mode? I hope they just harmonise the status bar appearance between iPhones with notches and iPads.

Suffixing an overtly, wilfully offensive comment with "no offence", doesn't negate the offensive nature of the comment. You even added an emoji to demonstrate your disdain and lack of care for others, very clever, so now you can continue being smug AND rude, because it's okay as you suffixed it...

"Evolution" is also a religion, as it's a nonsensical, fantastical stretch of flight and fancy, based on denial and utter arrogance.

Yeah, no, learn some civility and grow up please.
How can truth be offensive?

I find it odd Apple is offering the OPTION for dark theme on macOS, and not offer the same on iOS. I really hope a dark theme on iOS still happens.

Apple probably wanted dark theme to go with the new dark iMac Pro, keyboard and mouse.
I’m sure iOS will get dark mode in the future with new hardware.

There's some nice improvements here, especially Siri shortcuts. But realistically all changes to apps like group facetime and memoji could surely be added as an app update, if only Apple updated apps separately from iOS releases, which they don't for most of the apps.

Watch them release all the camera stuff that children like so much and then it going out of date as no new faces and filters will be made available as frequently as they are on social media apps that pioneered this crap.

I also like the changes to ipad multitasking and app closing. I never used the home button for this anyway, as was using the four finger gestures to close apps, and switch between them. Can anyone on iOS12 with an iPad confirm if the 4 finger gestures are now gone?

You can still scroll between apps with 4 fingers

Automatic updates sound great...

Then it would also be great, if the updates are installed on a background-partition and you only need to restart the device to swap partitions. And if that goes right, the partition with the previous OS-version could be deleted. So that you can use new system-versions without the waiting-time of the installation, where you can't use the device. By the way: Chrome OS does it that way and that is one of the features I would love to see in iOS.

There are still some basic features for iOS, I'm deeply missing:

This is my Top 10:

1. Safari should use the general text-size settings for text on webpages. Apple talks much about accessibility, but this basic feature that every desktop-browser has, is missing in iOS. Many people get worse eyes when getting older and if you zoom into a webpage, you have to scroll horizontally, what is annoying.

2. Native swype-support on the iOS-keyboard without the need to install a third-party-app.

3. If you play a video (in an app or in a Safari-tab), the sound should keep playing when you switch to another Safari-tab, another app, the notification-center, the control-center, the homescreen, the multitasking-view and so on. Because there is no need to stop the video, only because you have a quick look at a notification or anything like that. And in many videos, the sound is much more important than the picture, like e.g. a lecture, a talk or anything like that.

4. The calculator-app should have a built-in converter for length, area, volume, weight, temperature and currencies.

5. The AirPrint-dialog should offer an option to choose between printing in color or b/w and to print 2,4 or 6 pages on one sheet of paper.

6. The contacts in the phone-app show your own contact at top. That's great. There is no need, to show your own contact between the others too.

7. The contacts in the phone-app should show all characters in the quick-navigation at the right edge and not dots instead of some of them.

8. Contacts that start with a punctuation mark shoule be sorted in the #-section at the end, similar like contacts that start with a number.

9. Safari should get a gesture to quickly switch between open tabs without opening the tab-view. E.g. swiping right/left in the URL-bar.

10. Apple Maps should get much better. There are still many parks and woods displayed grey instead of green. Many footpaths in parks and woods are missing completely. The footprints of buildings should be shown. Many points-of-interests have a wrong position (e.g. if a big POI like a mall, a museum, and so on is shown, the icon should be, where the entrance is, and not at a side of the building where is no entrance). The navigation should be much better. Etc. etc. etc. Apple Maps is so important, but should get so much better...

Lets hope you have an up to date backup before it does an Automatic update... or as you suggest a background partition.

In those pictures I'm seeing the battery percentage on the status bar. Is this returning?!?! That would be great as I like to know what percentage I'm at.

I find it odd Apple is offering the OPTION for dark theme on macOS, and not offer the same on iOS. I really hope a dark theme on iOS still happens.

Seems to be in the works considering there are more notifications on a transparent black window as opposed to the usual white. I'm not sure what the rhyme or reason is for that. Anyway, I assume that as long as it's a popular feature in Mojave, it would make sense to add to iOS. I can't imagine when they shift back to developing the new home screen that UI redesigns such as (cough) volume hud (cough) and other areas won't get the treatment. It would make sense since a LOT of apps are giving users the option of switching interface color and also switching icons (ex. Bear and Apollo). Fingers crossed for iOS 13.

Seems odd to have the QR Code scanner as a Toggle in Control Center...you select the Camera App currently and can scan a QR code.

If your camera settings are set to remember the last way you used the camera, you can startup in video or panorama, which is a little annoying when you want to scan a qr code, I guess?

You could accomplish this with spotlight (not everything but for a basic usage is enough)

Apple today introduced iOS 12 with a whole slew of updates, ranging from improvements to Do Not Disturb to a whole new activity monitoring system that tracks how much time you spend on your iPhone or iPad.

There are also new "Memoji," aka personalized Animojis, there's support for Group FaceTime, and there were tons of other changes covered in the keynote event. But in addition to all of these new features, there are dozens of smaller tweaks that Apple didn't cover in its iOS 12 announcement.

Below, we've rounded up a list of new, lesser-known or "hidden" features in the new iOS 12 operating system update.

- iPhone X App Switcher - You no longer need to hold down on apps to close them. Swiping up like on the iPhone 8 and older works.

- Siri Voices - In the U.S., there are new Siri Voice options for Irish and South African accents in both male and female genders.

- Multiple Faces in Face ID - In the Face ID Settings, there's an option to "Set Up an Alternate Appearance" which appears to be aimed at people who may need to drastically change their appearance on the regular or those who want to unlock Face ID with two faces.

- Screen Time Widget - In the Widgets section, accessible by swiping to the right on the Home screen, there's a new Screen Time widget where you can see how much time you've spent on your iOS device lately, and what you've been doing. You can also see your full Screen Time usage metrics in the Settings app.

- Automatic Updates - iOS 12 introduces an option to turn on automatic software updates under General --> Software Update. This will update your version of iOS automatically when an update is available.

- Messages Shortcuts - If you tap on a person's name in the Messages app, there are now shortcuts to initiate a FaceTime audio call, initiate a standard FaceTime video call, or get info on the contact. This is also how group FaceTime calls are started from the Messages app.

- Notification Grouping - In the Notifications section of the Settings app, there are options to customize Notification Grouping for all of your apps. Notification Grouping Settings include Automatic, By App, and off. Notification settings have also been redesigned somewhat, and there are toggles for setting notifications to show up only in the Notification Center but not the Lock screen.

- New iPad Gestures - Apple tweaked gestures on the iPad to better match the iPhone X. You now swipe down from the top right of the iPad to bring up Control Center, rather than swiping up from the bottom. Swiping up from the dock goes to the Home screen.

- iPad Menu Bar - The menu bar at the top of the iPad has been redesigned, and it looks like Apple is making room for a notch that will be included on upcoming iPad Pro models that will feature Face ID. The time, day, and date are located on the upper left hand side of the screen, while the right shows Wi-Fi or LTE connection, Bluetooth, and battery life.

- Passwords - There's a new Password Manager API that can show passwords from 1Password and similar apps in the QuickType suggestion bar when you're inputting login information. iOS 12 also adds iOS password suggestions to third-party apps, like Keychain in Safari. Apple will also keep track of passwords that have been reused and prompt you to create new ones.

- One-Time Password Autofill - Apple says that one-time SMS passcodes will appear automatically as Autofill options so you don't need to hassle with quitting out of an app, opening the Messages app, copying it, and then entering it in the app that needs the code. In the Settings app, Safari Autofill has been replaced with the more general Password Autofill, and there's a new Autofill Passwords setting under Passwords & Accounts.

- Smarter Siri - Siri can answer questions about famous people, food, and motorsports. Siri can also look up passwords and search for memories in Photos.

- Scan QR Code in Control Center - There's a new Control Center shortcut for scanning a QR code.

controlcenterqrcode-800x707.jpg

- Wallpaper - There's a new iOS 12 wallpaper available.

- Siri Suggestions - Siri is smarter in iOS 12, and there's a new setting to allow Siri suggestions to appear on the Lock screen. You can also enable Shortcuts in the Settings menu, though Shortcuts are not yet available and will be coming through an app set to be released at a later date. Siri suggestions on the Lock screen can be enabled on a per-app basis.

- Lock Screen Options - There are new options to disable access to Wallet and USB Accessories when an iPhone is locked with a passcode. With USB Accessories disabled, you need to unlock the iPhone to allow USB accessories to connect when it has been more than an hour since your iPhone was locked. This setting will make it more difficult for law enforcement to access locked devices with USB tools like the GrayKey box.

- Voice Memos - Now that Voice Memos is also on the iPad and Mac and has iCloud support, there are settings for Voice Memos in the Settings app. You can choose when to delete Voice Memos, choose audio compression quality, and set a default recording name.

- Markup Colors - There are a lot more colors available when using Markup for editing screenshots, marking up images, editing PDFs, and more.

ios12markupcolors.jpg

- Safari Icons - There's an option in the Settings app to enable Favicons for Safari tabs, a new feature in iOS 12. There are also several new Experimental WebKit Features that Apple is testing.

- Apple Books - With the Books app getting a revamp and a new name, there are several new settings for Books in the Settings app. You can turn on syncing options for the "Reading Now" feature to keep track of where you are in a book across devices, and you can choose specific devices where you want to update your place.

booksreadnowios12.jpg

- Podcasts - You can set custom durations for the Forward and Back options in Podcasts. The two options are separate, and durations from 10 to 60 seconds are available.

ios12podcastskipbuttons.jpg

- Battery Info - In the Settings app, the battery usage chart shows usage for the last 24 hours or the last 10 days instead of the last 7 days. There's also a whole new chart that displays battery usage information.

Hello, Is anyone know is it safe to use one of the developers accounts online to update to iOS 12, because I really want to try it but don’t want someone to have access to all my data or passwords and stuff?

You mean you want to use someone else’s supposed developer credentials (login and password?)That’s a crime. And a really dumb idea.

I understand their need to want to focus on performance on older devices (they are fixing their wrong). For this to be the main feature status in iOS 12 is pretty disappointment. I mean how is this something they have been working on the past year? They spent more time giving people stupid memojis rather than updating say things all iphones need (revamped lock screen, freaking split screen on plus model. Still not sure why this is has not been done yet. You give an iphone a super fast processor, and large display only not to be able to do what we want. Im thrilled they finally brought grouped notifications. I understand iOS 13 is going to be the actual change in terms of design wise but they could have gave us a few snippets like split screen, revamped lockscreen, change iphone X control panel swipe, better volume pop up (move it to the top, bottom or side, not a giant box in the middle, number row and swipe built directly into the keyboard(no third party needed). These are all nice little upgrades they should have done with ios 12. Then iOS 13 could be the major overhaul with new home screen, better widgets, Always on Display (for OLED models) upgraded camera app (all camera settings in the app, full screen overlay controls, upgraded mail and control center, revamped phone dialer and notifications of incoming when using the phone (have it drop from top vs taking up entire screen)

Developers certificate I mean I want to try iOS 12 but I don’t have developers account and there is plenty certificates you can find online to can get the update but not sure how safe is to use them
