You guys are saying the same thing. For most, iOS 12 is an improvement from iOS 11. So most of the 12% on 11 really should upgrade to iOS 12.

But 95% running either the current or year old version is a pretty impressive statistic.

Yes, I misread that members post. I will edit to reflect that. Either way, iOS 12 was geared intentionally to boost the performance for older devices, which was a direct reflection preventing from those wanting to upgrade, as mentioned by Tim Cook in addition.

The way this is possible is there is a limited life to the permanently installed batteries so most users simply upgrade handsets after 2-3 years on average. This forced obsolescence is magnified by the recycling program so most handsets die permanently and the few that survive end up in other country markets as low cost starter phones.

Not mine ipad, simply because i don't need the 3gb of usless emojis
And every upgrade while in iosx 11 seemed to slow or deprogress the ipad.
And i do not trust apple anymore.

It's a one way street - too bad - I am guessing that if there was an option to go back to iOS10 or iOS 9 many would

iOS 12 is near perfect for me. Fast, stable and natural gestures. I have zero desire to go back to something older.

Are you having any specific issues?

Consider the possibility that you installed something from a third-party source that's a bad actor, and sucking up resources. I've experienced no slowness with iOS 10, 11, or 12 on devices 2015 and newer.

Rockin the 5% demographic. Still on iOS 10 over here, I refuse to let my 32-bit apps die.
On my older iPad, it's stuck in the iOS 9 series as it can't be updated further. Still running 32 bit apps on it. On my newer iPad, I have the latest iOS installed. Got the best of both worlds.

Thanks for the tip, i stay away from 3rd party stuff, especially the ipad because we cant look under the hood Like a laptop or pc. The features on 11 was an improvement that 10 with the keyboard funtions. So im happy with 11!

one way to get mass adoption (of an OS, not cute little kitties) is to release a turd called iOS 11 and let everyone suffer for a year— then offer up a workable version (iOS 12) and the masses will then clamor over each other to get it in their phone just to get the previous garbage off

I wish I could put iOS 9 on my iPhone 8.

Although every time I bust out the iPhone 5 with iOS 6, I'm blown away by how fast and responsive it is compared to anything since.

Too bad it's not too much different from iOS 7 with the same limitations and lack of freedom.

I dare you Apple to offer signing for previous iOS versions and see what happens to your stats.
I reverted my iPhone 4S to iOS 8 when signing was reenabled.

If everyone with an iPhone 4S reverted to iOS 8 it would... make no difference at all in the stats.

That doesn't really matter much to developers that are mainly after the breakdown to know what's out there in relation to how they develop their apps/services.
Not really. I was a developer, and would develop at least 2 generations back of OSes. It’s NOT that much extra effort to support. 99% market coverage is better than 83%.

For all the crap people give Apple about being a dictatorship, they sure know how to get things done when it matters.

I was on IOS11 until about a month ago on my X. Can’t believe I didn’t upgrade to IOS12 sooner. IOS12 made my X run like a brand new phone!

That's essentially still along the lines of what I was saying--developers just care about the breakdown and not really whether or not someone updated to the latest due to nagging or accidentally or something like that.

Is it me or is somebody narrowing the age of phones to 4 years, where previously the standard was all devices in frequent or (daily?) use?

We have a couple of 5S units still kicking. I can recommend the upgrade is well worth it. Performance is great.
