How would this work with Dual sim phones? Would it have a toggle for each number?
No. It's all or nothing currently/unfortunately, but hopefully eventually will work that way as most of us with dual sims such as personal/business would most likely find it a very useful setting for one line but not the other.

Wow for me not usable at all. How do couriers contact you guys? In my country by phone. Also for example when an Uber calls you it will too send it to voice mail. ..food delivery? Same thing.

Well, it depends. How often do you get deliveries or call Uber? Twice a week? How about spam calls? Twice a day? Then it would be worth using this feature. Also, I feel most ppl here in the US use text instead of calling, even Uber, DoorDash or any of that, so I feel it wouldn’t be a problem.

Love this! And I hope they mean exactly what you say (if # is not in contacts list)... not just the caller ID displaying "unknown caller". Since telemarketers mostly use fake phone numbers, caller ID won't appear as "unknown".

Hopefully that makes sense, I've been waiting for the option to only allow contact list calls forever!

That’s how it works. Personally I would like to see an option between the two, since I don’t get a lot of spam but actual needed calls which I don’t have in my phonebook. My almost 10 year old Blackberry 9930 has had this feature since the day I got it! Nice to see Apple finally implementing this important feature.

Still wish they made incoming calls not take over the ENTIRE screen when I’m actively using my device... give me a banner to interact with or ignore so I can continue with what I’m doing without having to send the call directly to voicemail (people can tell if you send them to voicemail or not) or wait for the call to ring through...

Hmmm I think I still want the voicemail as it could be someone or a company calling that I do need to hear from calling from a number not in my contacts. Probably would use the feature in general I can answer and hang up right away if its spam then block the number.
Blocked numbers can still leave you voicemail, so blocking only does so much if spam wants to leave voice messages still.

Well they darn well better tell the VA about this. Every call i ever get from them says unknown caller.
Omg, yeah... it would be catastrophic if some small amount of people started getting voicemails when the VA is trying to get ahold of them & had to call them back (assuming you don’t save the # as “VA”, if they’re calling you a lot).

How does this work? Like if a friend of mine called me from a number not on my contact list. Would it still ring to me? Or is it literally only for when it says unknown number on the caller id?
It literally says in the article, if it's not in your contacts...

Or add them to contacts?

I implemented this feature a long time ago by making a silent ringtone my default ringtone, then giving each person in my contacts I actually want to hear from their own audible ringtone. In the infrequent case I'm waiting to hear from a number I don't know that would otherwise be silenced, I temporarily switch from a silent ringtone to a real ringtone.

The new feature would be a lot simpler though, and would not require me to maintain my silent ringtone file.

I do the very same thing, but not only will this be simpler as you said, but presumably my phone won't light up with an unknown number several times a day.

Wish we can block voicemail too.

My point wasn't about not getting a voicemail for blocked numbers it was about not blocking the calls and voicemails (your original post) from people that you may need to hear from but aren't in you contact list as a fail safe.

Second was that I wouldn't use the feature because it's not that hard to answer and hang up or silence the incoming call vs risking a call that could be an emergency.

Fantastic! That'll be my favorite thing about iOS 13, I'm sure. Now if they could just identify the actual spammers and drop eggs on their cars on a hot day....

I won’t be using this feature. I get legit calls from people not in my contacts fairly often.

To each their own!
I had about 4 calls sent to vm today by this feature today... didn’t bother me.

I’m assuming just the one was legit, a voicemail was left from the office of my surveyor (I have his cell saved, but not his office). I called them back & had my monthly invoice sent!
No telemarketer is likely to leave a vm & if so, I’ll read it in the 1st line of the transcription & delete without listening.

To me, it was well worth having to call back one person to miss 3 spam calls....
Again, ymmv.

Blocked numbers can still leave you voicemail, so blocking only does so much if spam wants to leave voice messages still.

If you mean that callers that have their caller id blocked so that it shows, “unknown caller”- you are correct.
If you mean callers with numbers in your blocked list, you are incorrect.

Blocked callers get sent to vm only “per se”... they leave messages to the ether. You will NOT get any voicemail from callers on your blocked list.

Dude do you even know what unknown caller means ?
It doesn't show a phone number or identity. Thus the unknown part.

This is easily one of the best iOS 13 features. I've been getting an obscure amount of spam calls (from telemarketers) and it's been driving me insane. I love that this feature exists now!
