Will the Nintendo Pro Controller work as well?
Not currently, no - only ps4 and Xbox

Do L3 & R3 work? I'll have to test them. They were JUST added to the MFi spec and there was only one wired controller than supports them currently, so curious to know if they're enabled on the DS4.
Yes L3 and R3 work on both the DS4 and Xbox controllers.

For some reason L3 isn’t configured for the Apple controller profile that Steam uses (But R3 is for no apparent reason), so you have to reassign it per game to get it working with Steam Link. I assume this is a bug that will be fixed by Steam pretty quickly.

The PS button is mapped to start, the start button is mapped to home, and the share button and touchpad don’t work at all. Apple would have to add a select button to MFi for them to work (it doesn’t work with Xbox back button either).

Sounds amazing but has to be a catch somewhere down the line. What about games on the App Store, anything there this will be compatible with or so you need to be online steaming from this Sony service for everything?

Good now put it on tvOS you idiots.

It works with Steam Link, I was playing earlier in the beta. Steam Link even shows you have a ds4 or xbox controller connected in the UI, almost like they had insider knowledge...

SteamLink already had this in the code for their set top box and other platforms, so I assume they went ahead and included it for tvOS too.

No support for Nintendo Pro Switch controller:( BTW Overwatch isn't even on MacOS let alone iOS, why is it in the picture is this a hint at something?

The 2018 ipad pro GPU is as powerful as an xbox one S. Just imagine this years chip!
So do you think we will start to see better games on iOS? With iOS devices having larger storage options the prospects of playing larger scope games with a controller is enticing. I have a ps4 and an iPad with little interest in streaming gameplay from the ps4 to the iPad. But, I am interested in higher quality gaming options on iOS especially with a controller.

Wow, I can remote play full screen on my iphone, but not my 2018 Mac Mini because Apple won't fix the native full screen bug in 10.14.5 (possibly affecting other models relying on intel 630, not sure if it's limited to the 2018 mini)

it just dawned on me that in the future I don't even think we would buy expensive gaming hardware for PC or even consoles.

Either Sony/Microsoft/Steam will host powerful servers with high speed ISP and stream to whatever device or the gaming developers will (EA/Activision).
That future is already happening. :) Shadow, NVIDIA GeForce Now (still beta) and Google Stadia (about to lauch) host the hardware and all you need to play games with max settings in up to 4K@60fps (Stadia promises 8K in the future) is your iPhone/iPad or preferably Mac.

I’ve been using the GeForce Now beta on my 2014 Mac mini since 2017 to play a couple of games including Destiny 2 and although my internet connection hasn’t always the best ping (sometimes up to 50 ms) it is a decent experience. Probably not sufficient to play competitive PvP but that highly depends on your individual internet connection.

Sony and Microsoft kind of lag behind here but quickly announced a strategic partnership to ramp up their cloud gaming technology shortly after Google released the first details of Stadia.

People really play arcade games like that ? You would also need a phone holder, unless you can play (somehow, with one hand)

That isn't that bad, though (your ping). And, I'm not sure anything can be done to improve it. Depending on where someone lives and where the servers are, it could certainly be higher (but not a heck of a lot lower).

It's better with an iPad, but yeah... if you put even a small screen on the table in front of you, it isn't that much worse than a big-screen TV across the room. It's best if you do prop it up, or put it in some kind of holder, for sure. I use my iPad w/ SmartCover stand all the time to play Minecraft.

I haven't used an iOS device to play PS Remote yet, but I have used my Mac mini. It works reasonably well when the TV is being used for something else (like someone is watching a movie), so then I can still use the PS4 to play a game.

The chipset on the Apple TV will eventually be so powerful you can run full-fledged PS4 and Xbox One games on it locally.
ha. Show me God of War, The Witcher 3, RDR 2, Horizon etc. running on the newest ipad pro.

Eventually, theoretically, in a distant future, it will become as powerful as ps4, but don't expect console style games on it. They would have to convince people to start paying $60 for a game and I don't see it happening. Mobile devices are mainly for casual, lootbox driven, f2p social games with a couple of old console ports.

PS. They just updated gta 3 to support iphone x and ipad pro. A PS2 game. Developer are really taking advantage of the hardware

Will it work with xbox elite controller?

The elite controller doesn’t have Bluetooth. You could try plugging it in with the Apple lighting to USB 3 camera adapter.

I believe that distinction is due to the S controllers kicking off the Bluetooth connections, where prior to that the original One and 360 controllers used RF to connect to the consoles. I don’t know that you can get a new controller any more that isn’t Bluetooth.
The elite controller still doesn’t have Bluetooth

I think it depends on the success of apple arcade. And how many people are connecting these controllers and playing the games. If it appears to be successful then yes, I think we'll see a new ATV with the latest apple chip and better games.

Why would Apple let PS4 stream games to their devices?
They denied Steam the exact same thing. I can see their point though, buy games on other platforms and play them on my device will directly cut into their profit margins. I believe games are the highest revenue generator in the app store

I’m still having trouble connecting my PS4 controller to iPadPro running iPadOS. Pairs easily with AppleTV, but not with iPadPro. Any suggestions?

What controller is best ?, I’m going to buy one, and will it control Apple TV?,
Whichever you prefer - I'd get an Xbox controller if you have a gaming PC and intend to use Steam Link because the graphics and instructions for most PC games are for Xbox controllers (you'll see "Press A" onscreen instead of "Press X" for example).

Yes it can control and navigate the Apple TV - you can even use a controller to wake the ATV and turn on your TV so you don't need the remote for anything (except volume control).

Yeah no idea why they allow console remote apps but they do. There's the official one and R-Play both, as well as OneCast for Xbox. The R-Play developers told me they couldn't release an Apple TV app before though, but wouldn't say why. Curious that OneCast/RPlay/Official Remote Play don't have an Apple TV apps, when they would be so easy to port over.

I thought we had to wait until the update to use PS4 and Xbox 1 controllers in the iOS ecosystem (minus Macs)

Awesome, I thought Sony would have to update the app for this to work. Really hoping for an Apple TV Remote Play and PS Now app so I can play PS4 games in my living room without having to lug my hefty PS4 down there and set it up.
I've done this with my MacBook. You plug the PS4 controller right into it and launch the PS4 Remote Play app and you're good to go. I've done this before when I can't use the living room projector screen but still want to play in another room.

I'm blown away with PS4 Remote Play on the iPad. I've been playing with it for a few hours and it's a near perfect experience. I'm running the IOS 13 beta (iPadOS) which natively supports the PS4 Dual Shock using Bluetooth. Connecting to the PS4 was easy as pie and everything Just Worked. Frame rates are great, no dropped frames, no artifacts or tearing, the controller works perfectly. This is using WiFi for both the iPad and PS4.

This is great. I could easily believe the games were running natively on the iPad. It's just that good.

This sure changes the game when I'm travelling!
