Well, they're also adding Man in Tuxedo and Woman in Tuxedo.

Pretty sure people don't become gay, bi, or trans by putting on a veil.

Tuxedo is fine - men and women both wear tuxedos sometimes, whether they’re straight or LGBT, with no offense intended.

I can’t imagine a man with a mustache wearing a veil for any reason other than they think it’ll be hilarious. Maybe I’m wrong - if somebody has seen such a sight, let me know.

This is what Apple engineers do everyday???? Instead of fixing bugs, they work on emojis that no one uses! This is what happens when Tim crook is in charge... /s

Yes, they are actually. Same guys are also programming Final Cut, flying planes with iPhones from China and designing retail shop layouts, filming Apple events.
Apple employs in total 13 people and everybody does everything.

Gods, I know the Entitled actually believe otherwise, but no, that's not what "engineers" do all day. The Unicode Consortium adds Unicode code points, and some graphics designer somewhere inside Apple draws pictures. What does that have to do with bugs?

Aside from emojis, google authenticator appears to be broken, at least on my phone. It did work on beta 1. This, for me, is the first time an app is completely borked and not usable.

Why would anyone need them emojis like serious there’s just to many now, no one needs a olive lol
The worst one is you seriously have to type anatomical heart. I guess you can make a shortcut right, but might have been easier to either make it aheart in the first place or replaced one of the colored hearts for heart with the real heart

Why does the world needs so many emojis? Back in the day ascii symbols ":)and :-(" were used to express feelings, so cool they included some very popular things like a heart and a thumbs up. but why do we need an image for everything that exists out there? Who wants to use a mammoth or a boomerang in his chat?

This is literally turning into hieroglyphs
I'm upset they missed their chance to be clever with boomerang. The sender should get the boomerang emoji sent back to them like five seconds later

Seems like the "/s" has been overlooked in that post.

I misread "Placard" as "Picard" and thought "finally!". Sigh.

And why, why, only black cats and non-descript cats - I demand separate emoji for every variant of cats! My tabby is feeling slighted.

It is! Which is what some segment of the population wants, so emojiglyphics are where we're headed. People already regularly communicate in pictorial memes, this is just a formalized extension of that.

Heck, if you want to get speculative about it, the ability to get a general message across in emojiglyphics could function as a kind of universal language bridge between people who don't share any other language, so the more emoji available, the larger your vocabulary becomes.

I don't get it, just type it out instead of search a dictionary of emojis to build up the image sentence of what you are trying to say.

Probably because "burger tasty" doesn't feel the same as "🍔🤤". "Mmm burgers" is a lot closer, but that's not universal and still has a different feel to it.

I don't type in emoji either, but some people enjoy it, and I'll be the first to admit that the emotional impact of an emoji in conversation (or emoji conversation) is vastly different than equivalent text. There simply aren't words that emotionally and quickly convey 🧐 or 🥺.

Might be logical, but not accurate: Apple is a voting member of the Unicode Consortium, so they have voice in what emojis are added.
There's a difference, though, between, "we have someone sitting on the committee that evaluates new proposals", and "we are independently devising and shoveling in all sorts of new emoji", the latter of which seems to be the position assumed by a lot of people here, judging by the perennial "why is Apple doing this instead of fixing XYZ??!?" posts these threads always attract.

I understand what you are saying and please concentrate on that you are using smilies which was what originally emojis supposed to be. BUT.... they have over did it, how many times would you need a top hat, crying cat, foot print, a camera, a flash on camera, and a floppy disk icon?

What impact does it have on your life that there’s a floppy disk emoji?

Fair enough, and I certainly agree that it's ridiculous to suggest that Apple isn't large enough to both draw new emojis and create and improve products.

But these threads also always attract responses along the lines of, "Apple has no say over what emojis get created!", and those response are also inaccurate. It's reasonable to speculate that Apple has, in fact, come up with at least some of these emojis.

Yup. They almost certainly have a fair amount of sway in determining which emoji end up in the next Unicode release.

Thing is, as much as some may dislike it, emoji are hugely popular among tons of people, across different cohorts, age groups, etc. And it's not just a "hype" any more. They've been around in their modern form for over a decade. (Hard to remember now, but for a while, you needed a third-party app or other workarounds to get emoji at all in iOS.) So these discussions are a bit tiresome.

Apple, as a member of the committee, discusses and votes on proposals, which generally come in from outside. You could go look up the recent proposals, and see if any of them come from inside Apple itself.
