You mean like Apple hiring people to listen to your Siri inquiries? That was supposed to be "privacy-focused" hence why it trails the rest of the assistants?

Let's not pretend Apple = Jesus here. They have a much better stance than most, like Google or Facebook, but not infallible sainthood.

Equally, doing the right thing doesn't mean they can't do wrong tomorrow. They've done plenty of wrong as a company- butterfly keyboards, you're holding it wrong, bendgate, battery & throttling, etc etc etc. And worse, they STILL won't admit being wrong after any/all of that. That is the worst part of Apple- that they will never admit a mistake; that smugness they have as a company culture.

No one should get the benefit of the doubt frankly when their sole goal of existing is to make as much $$$$ off people as possible. Loyalty to any company is a frankly ridiculous concept.
Why are you quoting me? Your poorly-thought-out screed has nothing to do with what I said.

I hope they stop taking Google's money and make DuckDuckGo the default search engine. I would be delighted if Apple truly went all in on privacy, it looks like that is the plan as a way to separate them from the pack. The Apple of the next decade should be privacy focused and have very tight control over its supply chain.
I want Apple to come out with their own search engine. I know it is not strictly necessary but I want it anyway.

"Just appgle it." Nah, not like that.

There is the issue. Sadly you have received thumbs down for no reason as well. It is a very good question to be asking.

You cannot say "buh much privacy" Why? "Um um, BECAUSE APPLE." That isn't any sort of logical answer. Just because Apple takes a stance on some issues that seem sort of ok doesn't make that an automatic assumption.

Look at Siri, they were having people listening to the recordings. Some privacy huh? Imagine if that story never was exposed what else they would have tried to get away with....

Assuming privacy due to a "because Apple" argument is a really bad assumption to be making without even looking further.

Trust Apple more than Google, sure. That doesn't mean blindly either.

The truth is they don't really take a stance on it at all. They happily take Googles cash for default search on iOS, they profit enormously from googles tracking.

Also the harder you can make it for a company to run ad supported apps the more likely they are to consider subscription or in app purchase and that means more rent taking for Apple

Its all about the $$$$$

Yeah that would also mean not housing all of that iCloud data where the it can be spied on and there is no chance of that happening.

Tim Apple: the man-in-the-middle proxy that wants it all.
Next logical step is Apple VPN+, for only 5.99$ a month.

Apple should absolutely just acquire the lockdown app, ship it preinstalled on all Apple devices, and offer the VPN service as an additional subscription.

It would depend on how good DDG would be. If people found what they were looking for, then i dont see why majority(other than those 10% tech savy) would even bother switching back to google. 50% would probably never even notice they're not searching via google.
Yes, DDG is okay when looking for popular websites but google blows it out of the water in most cases which is a shame.

I had no idea that this whole time Apple was making my IP address available to Google along with the URL requests. I like the feature, but it would have been nice for there to have been more transparency around this.

Apple tells you about it in the preferences where this can be turned off and on. Click the question mark for more details.

More likely that they shutdown Safari for Windows because no one was using it.
Not disagreeing but that was what, 2012? Long before continuity, password manager, and all the benefits of using Safari on PC. And before the major privacy battles.

I think that would change a lot these days as to why use Safari on PC.

Every so often I try to replace Google with DDG and DDG always fails at finding things that Google finds. I don’t understand why it happens but they are meaningful results that DDG doesn’t find.
