iOS 14.5 Will Reportedly Be Released Later Today [Update: It's Out Now]

I've had no issues with the beta or the watch unlocking/face mask feature.

As far as the Zuck goes, I stopped using FB about 3 months ago. With the exception of my old lady asking why I stopped using FB (I just got sick of the toxic politics and arguments) I haven't given it much thought. I for sure don't miss it ONE BIT.

My favorite thing about the watch/mask unlock feature is I use an in store app when I shop at one of the major price clubs in the US. The app lets you scan items as you shop to digitally clip or check for coupons. It then automatically links them to your club card and takes them off at the register. I've saved probably close to $300 this year alone using it.

Dropping my face mask in the store wasn't really an option, and I use a complex passcode on my phone which is a PITA to unlock every time you use the app after your phone auto locks.

It's a good feature I imagine a lot of people will appreciate. I was once again surprised this weekend when I realized how few people are still unfamiliar with Apple Pay on the watch. We were down the beach this weekend, and while a lot (if not all) merchants take Apple Pay, a lot of them were unfamiliar with how it works. This ran the table from teenagers working part time jobs, to merchants in their 50's running their own boutique shops. Their new POS systems accept it, they just don't know.

IMHO the combination of Pay and the watch is one of my favorite Apple "things". I use it almost daily and recently when I had to go to a training where I had to remove my watch and jewelry. When I walked into a store on my break to buy lunch I realized I didn't have my watch to pay with and had to go back out to the car to get my wallet.

I realized I tap my watch more than I open my wallet anymore....
One workaround if you are unlocking your phone for a single app repeatedly while wearing a mask is to use Guided Access. But that doesn't help when you are using multiple apps. Of course isn't necessary for iPhone + Watch users with 14.5.

My X seemed slower with 14.5rc I’ve today moved onto 14.6, seems better.
This is quite concerning along with people saying battery life is garbage on 14.5. Hope not but nothing surprises me with Apple lately. 3 months in beta and they'll release something gimped. But hey at least we get women with beards emoji and "urban" sounding siri voices.

Nope, not the only one. The phone has NO problems at all unlocking with the black gaiter and mask I usually wear (neck, chin, cheeks covered...even eyes with my sunglasses on) - been doing this for a few months.

But I did notice a few days ago it won't unlock no matter what if I have the cheaper surgical mask on. Odd.
I don't think this is anything new. Back when this nightmare started, I noticed my iPhone would unlock with a mask on. It was a standard cloth mask in dark blue. But, it stopped doing it at some point (I don't remember) and similar masks no longer unlock when on.

Same here. If a store accepts NFC I can either use Apple Pay or my other credit cards stored on my Watch. I even have my grocery store "member's" cards stored on the Watch so I don't need the physical cards either.

I have been on iOS 14.5 and WatchOS 7.4 Public Beta on my 11 Pro Max and Watch Series 3 since last week and simply cannot complain, well worth the update especially for the FaceID Watch Unlock which worked flawlessly while I was out shopping this past weekend.

I wonder if it will resolve tracking issues like this:
This morning I open up my calendar and see I have an appointment, I open up Waze and it asked me if I want to drive to that location, I check my privacy settings and Waze does not have access to my calendar or contacts. Hello?

I'm actually looking forward to the maps update quite a bit. I stopped using waze because it was slow and unreliable but lately it seems Maps is heading in that direction too. Having input to local conditions is going to be nice.

5G dual-SIM support and mask unlock with AW should make this a pretty useful update for me.

Have not been looking forward to a iOS release like this in a long time.

But will wait a day or two to make sure nothing horrible pops up unexpectedly with the release before grabbing it.

Where are your contacts and calendar stored? In a Google account?

and for small businesses.
Exactly that... What it seems people are forgetting is that by clicking 'No' to tracking they aren't going to stop seeing adverts. They are just going to get generic adverts that have been targeted on age and location only rather than on their interests.

By clicking yes, you'll still see the same number of adverts but they just might be relevant to your interests.

If I've got to see adverts, which I know are the only way that Facebook and the like can remain free to the end user, I'd sure as hell rather see something that's of interest to me.

For example, I'm of that age that a large number of men my age are starting a family. Therefore if I click no to ad tracking I'm likely to see adverts for nappies, prams and other baby products. Thing is I've no intention of starting a family so I'd rather click yes and continue to get adverts for tech stuff that I'm interested in instead.

Another reason why us watch owners get another piece of exclusivity.....so love ❤️ the way the Apple Watch works with the phone & now this validates the purchase of this bit of Apple tech even more.
