I've had a couple devices (one ATV 4th gen and iPhone X) fail on the first attempt while "preparing update." Never run into that before. So far, second attempts are good.

Mine just did the same thing. It went back to download and install like I hadn’t already downloaded it. iPhone 12 Pro in the US.

I found that the VPN app I use needed to be disabled for successful verification during install- for those of you affected by this, it might be useful information.
