My Podcast app is a mess. It’s working very slow after the update. I can no longer delete episodes by swiping left. i used to be able to delete by swiping all of the way left. Can’t do that anymore. When I touch the small delete button that appears with a slight swipe left, nothing deletes.

can anyone see any subscription-based podcasts since installing 14.6? I can't

As for lossless, I hope it is a bit more backwards compatible with older phones not able to to run 14.6, I mean all other music apps support lossless and have for years, on older iOS's, so it shouldn't really be necessary to have to latest iOS. For spatial, I get it.
iOS 14.6 made visible UI changes to support Apple Music Lossless, so it definitely will not be compatible with anything older.

The Podcast app in iOS has been funky for a while. Since I don't listen to many podcasts, I simply deleted it.

So, how much less can you care? A lot less? A little less? I, on the other hand, could not care less. The sound of Apple Music’s existing 256kbps AAC played through full size HomePods scattered all over my home is a beautiful experience.
LOL, you caught me using the expression very badly -- but yes, I totally agree with you.

So we can open our phones using voice control? Isn’t this new in the day of still wearing masks? How does this work?

But still don't care about the iOS 14.6 update.
Oh jeez, I posted too quick about MacOS when you were talking about iOS. My bad.

For what it's worth, I think "boring" updates are good if they bring stability and security improvements.

I could really care less about Lossless, to be honest and I'm very much over all this obsessing about it on this website. People do realize that we're talking about the tippy top tier of audible difference, right? It's absolutely not going to be detectable in many listening situations -- and even then, more for people who really want to actively listen for it with trained ears and high-end headphones or loudspeakers. No shade to people who are legitimately into high end audio -- more power to you. But I think a lot of casual music listeners are suddenly obsessing over Lossless just because they heard it's better and they have to have it.

What I want to know more about is spatial audio -- which tracks have it, whether it gets incorporated somehow into "legacy" tracks. That is a feature that would make me consider switching from Spotify. The limited amount I've used it on my AirPods Max, it's a really immersive, cool experience.
Okay, I don’t care about spatial but looking forward to some way of playing lossless. Most of my career was spent assessing audio and video quality and compression can be seen and heard to greater or lesser extents depending on the quality and amount. Compression particularly affects transients and messes with clarity, definition and attack and is fairly easy to notice even with medium quality equipment. It’s not the difference between AM and FM radio, but along those lines. I find Apple Music streaming often muddy and lifeless and the others would be the same or worse.

If the podcast app was as good as Pocketcasts, I would probably use it and do the whole subscription thing. I would love for my podcasts to basically be all in one place, but if you subscribe to a creator on patreon, you can still get the podcast on other apps (I use Pocketcasts). I really wish there was that perfect IOS podcast app though, because when I was on Android, Podcast Addict was incredible.
Podcasts used to be reliable up to iOS 10, then it’s been continually downhill.

I kind of figured it was something like that. No worries. And, in all fairness, most updates come with security patches - which I do care about. I was referring to the new features the latest version of iOS brings. There's usually something I'm interested in with each iteration. This time, I am not - which is a first for me. But I will update even if only to make sure I have any bug fixes or security patches.

Damn. Glad I haven’t jumped yet. Can’t believe podcasts 14.5 was worse the the irritating preceding versions.

That's incorrect. The iTunes Match component of Apple Music works exactly the same way as a standalone iTunes Match subscription. DRM-free in, DRM-free out.
Interesting. I didn’t know that. Seems like it’s moot to even offer a separate $25/year iTunes Match plan if you can just use the free trial or pay $9 for 1 month to convert your illegally downloaded limewire into 256 AAC DRM free music.

I don’t have anything lower than music purchased from iTunes (rest being uncompressed CDs and high resolution music from HDTracks, but if what you and other poster said is true, the $25 iTunes Match is a poor choice.

I used to be able to toggle the smart bulbs in my bedroom on and off by just saying, “Hey Siri, bedroom light.”
Now, Siri replies with something about motion being detected in the bedroom. I have a sensor there for my Ecobee thermostat. So, I have to say, “turn the bedroom light on (or off)”. This started after this update.

To me this is possibly a huge fix… I have a Bluetooth headset I use for work, among other devices. Many times my phone will just jump from my headset to something else mid-conversation… or fail to connect in the first place, then randomly connect while I’m talking to someone. It can be very annoying and sometimes awkward. This has only been an issue with my phone, so hopefully this is the fix I’ve been wishing for!
This happened to me a few times, too. I just ignored it as the airpods being airpods. But hopefully this fix works.

FYI 7digital sells lossless and hi Rez tracks where you don’t have to buy the entire album like HDRTracks forces you to.
