It's just quite amazing this quite simple behaviour remains so dificult to implement .... and maintain ... where is the hidden complexity?

That’s exactly what I wrote on a response I gave to a feedback report!!
Well, I stopped reporting bugs long long time ago, it’s not my job to help them fix their business.

They often simply closed bug reports, or left it open without further notice.
They also give somewhat disrespectful answers e.g. if you forget to attach something, or didn’t hand out all the infos they expected to get upfront from you, and leave it untouched after you handed out these infos.

A pure waste of time!

Blame the lack of polish on WFH. Few have discipline to not get distracted or slack off.
It's not WFH fault, look back to all the Gate* and other issues.
Apple invented Gate*, there is a reason for this.
Apple QM is simply far below the bar, and that since many years.

Once they even broke the cellular signal, turning the iPhone to a phone that can't call" 🤣

Good work beta testers 😉
I reported the bug in beta testing as my 12 Pro with Face ID won’t unlock. For me its unreliable. It can take 3-7 unlock, lock, unlock cycles on the phone to unlock the watch. I sent in logs.

I don’t think the problem is beta testers. I send in tons of reports. Like another poster said, those reports are just ignored. Maybe all the staff that addresses bug reports now fix map issues? That response rate has dramatically improved while feedback reports now feel like a black hole.

Their loss. Those ignored reports are part of the reason we have so many bugs. They used to get looked at.

I like that with iOS 14.7, when your Watch is unlocked you can click on the notification to re-lock the Watch. However, as others have mentioned, it is not reliably unlocking the Watch as before.

That said, I'm still glad to have installed 14.7 as it seemed to have resolved the battery drain issue when using the Podcast app.

They can be pricks, sure. But at the same time, if we didn’t have relentless bug reports, the HomePod may not have been fixed. Of course, they could be terrified of yet another recall program or class-action, but I’m going to be positive here.

Apple beta process today. We will release the new software on this date. What about the long bug list generated by the beta testers. Why not fix the bug list before release? We will release the new software on this date.

Can anyone confirm that it also doesn’t unlock your iPhone when wearing a mask on iOS 14.7 and watchOS 7.6?

Based on my past experience with the beta program, I bet dozens of people reported this and Apple simply didn't fix it in time.

I agree with others here who are experiencing this on iPhones with Face ID. I'm also having this problem with my iPhone 12 mini and S4.

Confirmed. (11 Pro / AW 6).
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, rendering the whole concept useless, as it’s faster and simpler to enter the iPhone code now.

This is exactly why I have not upgraded from iOS 13.7 yet, waiting on 14.7.1.
You have an updated at all for any of the major security patches, and you’re waiting for a release that may or may not happen for you update. You say that every time as an update and fair enough do you like ios 13.7 but it’s not exactly the reason you haven’t upgraded because you didn’t know this was a problem until this site just told you. Since 15 beaters appear to be doing it too I guess you won’t be updating to those either..

Is anyone else noticing that sometimes notifications aren't pushing to Apple Watch with iOS 14.8/watchOS 7.6 now? Several times now my iPhone has displayed a notification from an app that should have been pushed to my watch.

Wondering if this is a related problem.

My Face ID on iPhone 12 Pro Max will not unlock Apple Watch 4, so it's not just touch ID.

SMH! 😑

I agree. It's not just TouchID. Ever since iOS 14.7 seed 3 or thereabouts, Watch unlock via iPhone has been very slow, required multiple attempts, or failed – requiring re locking the iPhone and trying again. Using iPhone XS w/ FaceID.

Watch unlock via iPhone had always worked instantly and every time. Now, as of the release of 14.7, it has improved, working on the 1st or second try (of unlocking the phone). But, I always have to slide up to go to the home screen to get it to try unlocking (which still is slow). Before, all I had to do is tap-to-wake and look at the phone – instantly unlocking the watch.

I sure hope 14.7.1 returns the original functionality of the unlock feature. It is definitely broken as it stands.
