The Android fanboys are never going to let iPhone users let this one go.. Look good though, widgets are something that I missed from my short time with Android.

It’s been three years since notched iPhones and we still have to do without the do not disturb icon, battery percentage indicator and others in the status bar, how stubborn and dumb Apple can be?

From a GUI point of view IOS6 remains Apple's finest hour and they've been on a declining slope ever since.
Apple just seem to exaggerate the parts I dislike in their OS and drop the things I do! :(
Hopefully when I use it my opinion will be changed, but from the screen shots posted so far it looks like it was designed by and aimed at children. :(

As someone who ALWAYS uses search to open apps, this is great. Maybe I’ll just put widgets on page 1, and use the new feature for everything else.

But do my shortcuts still need to be touching the top of the screen? Or can I start my icons from the bottom yet? Or put some in the top and some at the bottom and have a gap in between so I can see my background?

One day, Apple will finally open up home page design to developers — or to users. Or, if it insists on keeping things closed, will finally adopt Z-Launcher’s decades-old tabbed interface for Palm OS.

The side-tabbed interface is the most efficient for getting to related apps quickly. But the user needs to have complete control over tab names, which apps go into which tabs, and where to put the tabs.

And, no, the folder system is not equivalent, especially as it takes over the whole screen.

Finally, will OS14 fix the utterly poor interface problems with rearranging apps on the home screen? They slide into weird places, one cannot easily slide apps into the left-hand side position without ending up on the next home screen, etc.

Looks exactly like that iOS 8 concept from 6 years ago.

App Library = Nope. I already have my apps organized in folders the way I want. I don’t need Apple’s curated mess thanks.
Agreed. I'm not going to pretend like I've organized every page of my home screen, but at least my icons don't constantly rearrange themselves based on "special sauce." Not looking forward to that...

Put a widget on top and then your apps will be underneath. But otherwise, no, looks like it still snaps everything upward.
I agree, or I was kind of thinking I could put a widget in the middle for a "separator". Maybe someone will come out with opaque widgets so it can look like there is icon freedom! At least the widgets look to be a good start to having some freedoms on the home screen.

Current widget screen seems to be logical considering iOS icon filled familiar layout.

The one shown above doesn’t look clean, neat, logical or functional.

Long before Android widgets were useful when Apps were in primitive stages. When Apps started getting complex. widgets beyond weather, clock, text messages, it became too cumbersome to fit it into a small UI. That’s why Android went with customisable notification section with the ability to respond; in addition to long pressing app icons for popular actions which is available in iOS as well (i.e. app icon long press).

iOS must think radically different to make widgets popular. At least Windows Mobile made honest innovative attempt with live tiles.
