It’s not out yet. You didn’t consider getting an Apple Watch? I’m a bit confused because didn’t you know it had Face ID before you bought it? Did you think it would unlock with a mask on?I guess I did well waiting for this to be a reality. I guess it is time to finally re- purchase the iPhone 13 mini that I returned mainly because of this. Great!
I’ve provided feedback about this several times, and I explained to Apple this was the reason I was returning my iPhone 13 mini, which was awesome otherwise. Glad Apple listened, even tho 2 years later.
It taps you on the watch to let you know your phone is being unlocked and it uses your eyes in a scan. So what you say is really a non issue. The Watch unlock is a security hazard in my view since my experience is that anyone can unlock your phone if your are nearby with your unlocked watch.
I am sure some people will agree to this. It’s going to be great for people that “find” iPhones ??This will be great for Apple Pay.
Do you know how hard it is to program a security feature like FaceID which was designed to work with your complete face, only to then re-engineer it to work with your Apple Watch, and then have to again re-engineer it to work with a mask?Well done apple, 2 years to late; in the uk we don’t need masks anymore so maybe apple should of done this 2 years ago, doesn’t seem like a hard thing for them to do
Well, depends of the country you are from, here in Germany it’s not that severe. I usually set my display to “always on” when I’m doing a longer grocery store session. Simply because it pisses me off to keep rotating myself while typing my very long alpha numeric password, to avoid store cameras recording it, and that every time it locks. While that would be convenient it would still be very insecure. A quick scenario is while you’re at the grocery store someone takes your phone and then they have all your bank cards. You’ll be paying for someone else’s groceries and maybe some gas. They know where you live and who your friends are. If you’re on Facebook or other social media they have access to those accounts to get your information from there.
I could go on and it gets worse but my point is if you’re someone that keeps all their information on their smart phone it’s downright scary what someone could do with that information. If you just use it as a phone they could get some information like your contacts but maybe not as scary.
This just doesn’t seem like a good trade off so people don’t have to wear an Apple Watch. I mean everyone has to decide what risks to take versus convenience but from someone who had to advise naive family members and friends on what to do after their information has been compromised online the thought of this to me is like fingernails on a chalkboard.
I won’t go as far as to say this shouldn’t be an option because you can leave your phone with no passcode. My thoughts are if any one of my friends asked me if they should do this I would strongly advise them no absolutely not. The trade off for convenience isn’t worth what possibly could happen.
It was working on my iPhone 12 Pro Max last summer, and even on some older models as well, there was no special toggle to enable this but as you entered passcode phone learned and unlocked, either with mask on, or off, but on my iPhone it eventually stopped working in iOS 15.When this was rumoured a few months back it was being tested with the iPhone 13 Face ID. Have they managed to bring it to all Face ID devices I wonder?

as in, hopefully Omicron is the last major wave and in less then a year it won't be an issue. Not needed soon? Most of the world still requires masks everywhere.
What development cycle takes 2 years to create a shippable increment of a relatively minor feature? Do you even Scrum bro?You clearly don't understand development cycles at all.
I'd rather have them not rush out features that create gaping security holes, TYVM.
So you have an alphanumeric password but you leave your phone unlocked sometimes. This is a common situation where when users are forced to have high security they will figure ways to make it useless. It’s kind of like when companies require complex passwords so the user writes the password on a sticky note under his keyboard. I think you would be better off just sticking to a four digit pin and keeping it on all the time versus making a password that is too difficult to use so you leave your phone unlocked. Just my opinion but you have to make your own decision as to what are the risks and what you feel comfortable with.Well, depends of the country you are from, here in Germany it’s not that severe. Yeah it’s a security trade off, but I would welcome the login with mask option.
Masks will stay forever, sometimes more, sometimes less, but they won’t go away.
I had Apple Watch 1 and 4 and will probably never buy this crap again, my wrist is now occupied by a nice classy Omega Watch, which will last longer than I will.
It looks like it's optional. So, no.So after 2 years where it would have been actually useful, now when people are not wearing masks as often, they decide now to lower the security of Face ID completely?
Just saw this: "Face ID with a mask looks to be limited to the iPhone 12 and newer."View attachment 1950186With IPhone 11 Pro Max on 15.4 Beta 1 i don’t have this setting for Face ID with Mask.
Does it? I thought it authenticated the top half with FaceID and, if that checked out, it used the watch as a second factor authentication. But it just moves the lock from my phone to my watch.
I bought it because, in the first place I wanted to test it with a mask, there are several videos of people configuring FaceID with a mask on and apparently it worked, but it didn’t work on my 13 mini. And because I didn’t remember how tiresome it was to enter the passcode each time I want to unlock my smartphone. It’s not out yet. You didn’t consider getting an Apple Watch? I’m a bit confused because didn’t you know it had Face ID before you bought it? Did you think it would unlock with a mask on?
Unfortunately for Touch ID your only choice is really the iPhone SE2. It’s kind of dated ?
You can lock your phone again from the watch if it was an accidental unlock, and when you lock it from the watch it prompts for code instead of biometricsThe Watch unlock is a security hazard in my view since my experience is that anyone can unlock your phone if your are nearby with your unlocked watch.
Yes, 2 years ago, before the great lockdown began.WTF, this should have been pushed out 2 years ago! FAIL APPLE!!!
While that would be convenient it would still be very insecure.
