That keyboard notification has been so annoying to me I’ve emailed Apple feedback about it a couple of times, and I’ve called Apple support about it, Apple support told them they didn’t think it could be turned off. Apple feedback didn’t respond like they always do.

Wish I had know 2 years ago there at least used to be a way to turn it off.

What’s so annoying about it is I usually watch TV in the dark and I’m tired and I‘m relaxing. And a lot of times my iPhone will end up on the table or on the sofa next to me, When that notification comes up, it lights up the room and I have reach over and grab my iPhone to see what's going on. I’ve never gotten used to that stupid keyboard notification even after being annoyed by it for 2 years now,

It might have been before iOS 14 that I looked for a way to turn it off, and there wasn’t a way in iOS 13? And that’s why I never figured it out?
Awesome you sent Apple using the Feedback App, much more likely to get results that way. It’s clearly a bug, not a feature, and I believe it will be fixed in an upcoming release soon.

Why would ppl complain about this? How much of an annoyance could this possibly be?!
When you spend time learning the features and function of a new OS update, and then go through and get things set up the way you want, you don't expect a bunch of those features to be changed or totally removed when you upgrade (that seems more like a downgrade). If Apple continues this pattern, fewer people will update early on, if at all.

"I just hate it, I'm so upset with Apple. They really cracked this year and it shows that their culture is breaking. As an engineer who knows a lot of other Apple engineers, they all hate their lives right now and I don't blame them!"

The solution is simple. For you, vote with your wallet, purchase a competing phone, and find happiness. Will you do it?

As for your many Apple engineer friends who hate their lives, well, recommend they seek therapy and a different employer.

Easy.
No **** Sherlock, that isn't the ***** point

I sometimes feel that Apple assumes it knows best for its customers. I would say to Apple: if in doubt, always give us options to change settings and notifications. And never take existing options away.
Apple: users, use the device in the exact way we tell you to do so or stop using devices. WE ARE SUPERIOR.

Because when I am searching for a show, I don’t need my visiting friend’s iPhone getting a keyboard pop-up while they are on the toilet, and I am in the living room raging because I cannot find the remote, and I cannot search for shows using my iPhone, and meanwhile the friend is annoyed because they are trying to poop and read apple News, but the Apple TV keyboard prompt keeps popping up so they keep cancelling it. And apple news keeps crashing.

You can vote with your wallet and still express your frustration.

I think a lot of the Apple faithful simply don't want to hear dissatisfaction or even the slightest disapproval of their deity-company. I remember people not only defending but all but boot-licking Apple when that iOS update that actually failed to include the cellular modem drivers got pushed, and simultaneously telling people who were frustrated that their phone suddenly was no longer a phone that they were being unreasonably harsh and naturally Apple was going to fix it so just shut up and be patient...

(For the record, I have voted with my wallet, I'm a happy Android switcher, but I still use iOS devices for some tasks, like supporting family and for work. So I'm still going to see, and complain, about bugs.)

Settings: Notifications: TV <––– Icon of Apple TV – Disabled it here and it still shows notifications.

Stuff like this drives me insane. First and foremost for an operating platform should be a sort of assurance of negative rights and settings that firmly disable use of e.g. such features that may impinge on them.

So I should be able to fully delete or disable almost every user-facing application and software block short of the absolutely essential functionality, for example, and should be able to ensure 0 notifications soliciting a subscription ever arrive from Apple, or should be able to disable Find My Network BS (which they *have* done correctly thankfully).

Just amazing they didn’t think through this, come on.

Just literally ask “could I annoy the **** out of someone with this” with all the latest network-based gadgetry ********, just really isn’t hard, it’s why you can set a password or change AirPlay availability.

WHAT!?! An unwanted notification??! RIDICULOUS!

Lol but seriously, come on guys...how big a deal is this? How spoiled have we become? Let's appreciate the million good things Apple products do for us and not to make a huge deal of the little things.

I think it's good to talk about them. We the consumer can help Apple make their products even better. But let's not forget about the good things either.

It is INCREDIBLY annoying. My husband watches TV while I'm at work (for example) and every time he searches for something on the master bedroom (or home theater, etc.) Apple TV I get a pop-up on my personal iPhone, my work iPhone, my iPad, etc. - EVERY device I've ever used with that TV. At least give us the option to turn off the pop-ups!

Well… I didn’t even realize it could be turned off in the first place. So if this gets fixed, I get to enjoy it as an enhancement. ;)

It's actually very annoying. We have a few AppleTVs in the house. If I'm upstairs in the living room watching something, and my teenager is downstairs in the family room. He's using the AppleTV down there. So I'm sitting on the couch, watching the news and going through emails on my phone or whatever. The teenager searches for a new episode to watch on the family room AppleTV, and MY phone gets the "AppleTV keyboard input" popup. As does his and my wife's, since we are all on the same family sharing iCloud account.

Expressing well-reasoned frustration is one thing, and very much appreciated. Engaging in a race to the bottom with over-the-top outbursts accompanied with high school-level put-downs like "boot-licking, sheeple, fanboys, etc.," is another.

Weird, my problem has always been the notification not showing up. It only pops up on the device that’s associated with the Apple TV iCloud account, and no other devices on the network, even though I want it to show up on other devices.

I really hate this feature.

Good concept that can be unbelievably annoying in a household with many folks

Classic case of "worked great in solo testing in the lab"

Tell me. I'm clearly getting old and grumpy but I spend most of my time after updating, disabling all the new features.

It just feels like Apple can't keep up with their own set pace on software.
So much is not polished and just constantly getting basic things broken by updates.

It's a treadmill of mediocre software, all due to their self imposed annual "new version" cadence.

They need to get off that treadmill - slow down the software releases and actually make them better and more polished over a longer period of time.

Yes, exactly. They need to operate more like Toyota and less like Mercedes. Toyota only includes more proven technology in their cars. Mercedes does a bunch of fancy nonsense for people who want cars they think are neat and showy.

if Apple thinks they have a significant enough share of their user base that demands experimentation, they can introduce a Lexus line of their operating systems.

For years I recommended to friends and family because Apple products don’t change that much. Just because a new version comes out doesn’t mean you’ll have to change how you do things, Well about five years ago, Apple threw that out the window and made me look like a jackass for recommending them.

Most likely just a miss, will be fixed soon.

If Apple would communicate with it’s users and tell us publicly whether or not they would fix things, this would be a lot more assuring, As their current policies are, I’ve spent hours with them on the phone helping them reproduce issues that seriously affected my ability to use their products, and they’ve acknowledged were bugs. Called back six months later, they said they were still working on it, Called back six months later again to have them tell me they have no idea what I’m talking about. They have no record of that being a bug. This even though I saved and gave them the support case numbers they gave me where they verified it was a bug,

Quick followup.

Unfortunately, the workaround of creating a fake family member (new Apple ID) failed. This is because an Apple ID needs to be tied to a phone number. While I had a unique email address for this Apple ID, it was also using my phone #. And when attempting to add this new member to Family Sharing, it said I could not (that I was already added).

Apple engineering is also being insanely stuborn on this. They will not budge. Doubling-down that it's working as designed. Even when I challenged them to explain the following:

"One can shut off notifications for Amber alerts, yet one cannot shut off Apple TV Keyboard notifications. Why?"

wait, what? You’re talking to them over the phone about this and they’re telling you they’re not gonna fix it?

Even the Apple fanbois in this thread are saying to stop complaining about it. Apple is going to fix it,

Yep. Though I've only been speaking directly to Apple support staff (AppleCare). They have been passing along all my notes, screenshots, etc. to engineering and just relaying the responses from engineering back to me.

I also got another response since my last post above. Not sure what to make of it.

For one, they (engineering) stated to look at the steps to turn off notifications in their support article (Entering text for Apple TV). That's an article I also found when I initially looked for solutions. Problem is, it mentions to turn things off using the no-longer-existent "Apple TV Keyboard" setting under Settings | Notifications. Are they tried to rub things in?

But the email went on to say "Apple has received reports of this behavior, and those reports are under investigation. Engineering has promised to reach out to me as soon as more information becomes available, and encourages you to keep software up to date".

So perhaps there is hope they will eventually address this?

Last time I had a serious problem with Apple Software I was told engineering would not get back to me whether they worked on it or not. My “What??!” response was met with, “That’s how they do it.”. I’m very surprised they promised you a response.

Quick tip, How I keep up with my customer service interactions is I’ll make a Contact for them in the Contacts app. Then in the Notes field for the Contact, I’ll document any important phone call. If you were given a case number or anything like that, I:d out it in there before you lose it, Date, time, and name of person you spoke to is stuff you always want to document when you have a multi-call issue with a company’s customer support line.
