Except that the larding of "stuff" into Photos negatively affects those who just want to take pictures with the device.

I take pictures of pullboxes in the ground. Sometimes IN pullboxes in the ground. ^_^ I take pictures of equipment racks. I take pictures of serial number tags. But I have to fight with the camera due to idiotic features *that you can't turn off* like Deep Fusion and Night Mode. Gods, *especially* Night Mode.

I have to go in regularly and delete "Memories" that are umpteen different versions of "I took a collection of pictures around the campus for a job, and the phone decides to 'make a memory'". Like I'd *ever* let the phone be authoritative for something like that.
Sure, but again the phone isn't made specifically for you. It is made for a wide variety of people. Most people use the camera to take pictures of interesting things to them and use their phone for a lot more than just "work"...

If it were truly made for "a wide variety of people", these features would have an off switch.

Finally. Letting us know the name of the photo without having to dig through layers of menus and jumping through numerous hoops. One of the most basic necessity, IMO.
I'm not knocking knowing the filename, but not 1 person in one hundred probably ever needs to know that.

Definitely, this! Or at least push this stuff off into its own separate app that we can choose to use or ignore. (I don't see why it wouldn't be a bad idea to take all the "memories" stuff and roll it into an app that you'd use to make your custom curated photo collections to display -- maybe even onto a big screen TV via AirPlay for presentations?)

I'm not going to suggest Apple should eliminate features they've developed to make the iPhone do more things... but there's such as thing as some of it getting in people's way when they just want to use the "core" functionality.

Missing Feature: Family Sharing

Seriously, doesnt anyone at Apple have a family? If they offer $10/mo for 2TB of family shared data then it should include an OPTION for a family bucket of full-res photos so that parents can choose to combine all/some of their library.
With the option of eliminating duplicates

the new memories kinda suck, you cant even use song from your own library and you cant even add photos, you can only remove them.. big downgrade

I just went into Photos on the phone again and deleted all the nonsense it had added to "For You" under "Featured". When will Apple allow us to turn this nonsense off? I have zero interest in this. Even if I did, why in the world would I want the *phone* to be authoritative?

Can they bring back the map view with pins? The map view with numbers really doesn't do anything for me. Does it matter if I took 23 or 19 photos in a particular location?
Yes it does matter - I find that feature very useful

Selection Order for Photos Picker

This is huge for stitching images. 😊
you’re referring to manual stitching, aren’t you? I automatically stitch panoramas or other photos quite often in Affinity Photo and the selection order is irrelevant for the result.

I think we're getting to the point on these updates where I go, nope, don't need that, nope, won't use that, nope, I'll never figure that one out, etc.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I still just use my phone to call, text (with no emojis other than thumbs up and laughing face), surf the web while waiting for my wife to get out of Sephora, and plug into my car for Google Maps and some tunes. Anything else I use my iPad or MacBook.
Same here. All fluff IMO, wish we could turn it off

1) I'm glad you find it useful. I really am. What do you use the photo count for?
2) I just want an option to turn on the pins. Doesn't seem that hard since it was available before.
